The railway unions were on strike when we passed the Ribblehead Viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales, so there was little point in waiting for a train. In the background is Whernside, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. It is the highest at 2,415 feet above sea level, with the other two being Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. All three can be seen from near where this shot was taken.
The Ribblehead Viaduct in North Yorkshire is regarded as the most impressive structure on the Settle-Carlisle Railway. It is Grade II*-listed and dates from the 1870s when hundreds of railway builders ("navvies") lost their lives building the line, from a combination of accidents, fights, and smallpox outbreaks. In particular, building the Ribblehead (then called Batty Moss) viaduct, with its 24 massive stone arches 104 feet above the moor, caused such loss of life that the railway paid for an expansion of the local graveyard.

I was worried. But now I understand why they are working so much and they don't take that many pictures of me these days. They have to photograph humans so they can take even better pictures of me with this.

The white squirrel is actually a genetic anomaly due to a mutated gene from the common Eastern Gray Squirrel. It is called leucism, which is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation in animals caused by a recessive allele. Unlike albinism, it is a reduction in all types of skin pigment, not just melanin.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by the inland tsunami catastrophe in Nepal and Tibet.
Some of the footage that I have seen online is beyond terrifying. A wall of water, mud and debris sweeping dozens of people away in one short clip alone. I fear the casualties will number in the thousands.
All early indications are that the cause was a glacial collapse into a body of water further up the valley - causing a tsunami of water to crash down the valley. This would be directly correlated to manmade climate change as our high altitude glaciers are melting at increasingly unprecedented rates as we continue to heat our world with greenhouse gas emissions.
We did this. It could have been avoided. More catastrophe will come. The complete ignorance and inaction on the climate emergency should be considered criminal in my opinion.
I desperately hope that any survivors are found quickly.

The Dolomite Mountains (the Dolomites) are a mountain range in northeastern Italy, part of the Southern Limestone Alps. They are in the regions of Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The Dolomites are mostly made up of exposed rocks – limestones and dolomites and partly – rhyolites. These mountains are characterized by very picturesque terrain caused by their erosion and they are considered one of the most attractive mountain landscapes in the world. A large number of jagged ridges, peaks and rock towers, very steep slopes, cliffs and large vertical rock walls of several hundred meters, deep valleys and karst phenomena create a spectacular landscape. On 26 June 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Góry te charakteryzują się bardzo malowniczą rzeźbą terenu spowodowaną ich erozją i uważane są za jeden z najatrakcyjniejszych krajobrazowo obszarów górskich na świecie. Duża liczba poszarpanych grani, turni i baszt skalnych, bardzo stromych stoków, urwisk oraz wielkich kilkusetmetrowych pionowych ścian skalnych, głębokich dolin i zjawisk krasowych tworzy spektakularny krajobraz. W 2009 roku Dolomity wpisano na listę światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.

Sadly, what caused this near threatened Piping Plover to be on alert was not me, but some kid that thought it was fun to run and scare the birds and continued to do it after being told not to by both us and his father.
Imagine being one of only ~8,000 individuals and scared off from foraging by some irresponsible kid!
You never know what species may be around you, and it is important to be respectful of them all.
PS. Don't take your dogs to nature trails and keep your cats indoors too.
