I want to highlight the unfortunate situation of the elephants in Botswana at the moment...hundreds have been dying mysterious deaths and scientists, biologists and conservationists are all looking for the cause, to understand why this is occurring

This was a little spot that we camped at for a couple of nights...we were lucky, we had all to ourselves. Sadly the small amount of water in the gorge was not safe to swim in, due to some microbes that could cause brain damage. We risked using it to wash our feet!

The Canada Goose is a large wild goose species with a black head and neck, white cheeks, white under its chin, and a brown body. Native to arctic and temperate regions of North America, its migration occasionally reaches northern Europe. It has been introduced to the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands.

Like most geese, the Canada goose is primarily herbivorous and normally migratory; it tends to be found on or close to fresh water.

Extremely successful at living in human-altered areas, Canada geese have proven able to establish breeding colonies in urban and cultivated areas, which provide food and few natural predators. The success of this common park species has led to its often being considered a pest species because of its depredation of crops and its noise, droppings, aggressive territorial behavior towards both humans and other animals, and its habit of begging for food (caused by human hand feeding).

The oldest known wild Canada Goose was a female, and at least 33 years, 3 months old when she was shot in Ontario in 2001. She had been banded in Ohio in 1969.

For the Macro Mondays theme 'Love', I used a heart-shaped memo clip. Always nice to put in sweet messages ;-))

While I was taking pictures, one of my cats jumped on the table and knocked over this memo clip. And that gave this result! The reflection and light in it is caused by sunlight and the silvery paper, I used.

This photograph was taken recently at Upper Seletar Reservoir. It was breezy, with drifting clouds illuminated by the setting sun.

A father and his son were admiring the colourful landscape and stood next to the small jetty and boats. The ripples caused by the breeze provided some textures to the reservoir surface.

Groynes reduce longshore transport by trapping beach material and causing the beach orientation to change relative to the dominant wave directions. Hello Flickr friends ☺

Captured this scene a few years ago during a May sunrise (at 04:57).

Another one of those slightly cold (-1°Celsius) mornings where nature blessed us with calm winds and a powerful sun glow over mirror-like waters :-)

Found this tree branch (& reflection) positioned like a diamond (or an eye) and had to hurry and take some creative shots before any large ships passed the area (as their waves would most likely reposition the branch or knock it over... which is exactly what happened a little while later!)

(( update: Many people commenting on this photo say they see two arms with intertwined hands / fingers, crossed in the sun glow... and now I see that too! ))

The warm sun glow caused a pretty mist to rise upon the water, which made the scene even more lovely for me :-)

I captured this with my older Sony HX90V and cropped the photo quite a bit to remove land from the left side and also to reposition the 'Diamond Eye' from the center area.

Hope this golden glow brings a smile your way today :-)

Please remember (especially during this new year), even when we face dark days, the sun will always rise again... and shine on! ☀️

Apatura iris belongs to the Nymphalidae family and has a wingspan of 55 - 70 mm. The males have a purple/blue sheen on the upper dsides of their dark brown wings. This effect is caused by iridescence and depends on the angle of view. They are distributed throughout Central Europe and as far east as Korea and China. They can only seldom be seen because they mostly fly over trees and even more seldom sitting on flowers. So I got very lucky to spot this one sitting on the ground feeding on dry ordure.

As 2022 draws to a close, I am looking forward to turning the page on this year, which has been a difficult one for me, and starting the new chapter that is 2023.
