OK folks: you got me Explored again and Front Page this time: My thank you's are inadequate so it's half an hour of self-flagellation with a rusty sjambok. But thank you so much anyway.

Family Smiles at Mums 78th Birthday yesterday.

A Great Blue Heron swallows a big catch whole.

Wind turbines on Wolf Island, Kingston, Ontario.

More good surf, on the beach below the bluff on the previous photo. This beach was pretty messy with seaweed, and TONS of gravel thet made it hard to walk on. Should be a piece of cake now!

A pied kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) was giving his fish catch some nasty thrashes on the bamboo log before the feast. Fortunately it hunted right in front of my boat and continued the process of fish handling for some time. Unfortunately I could not manage a more closer frame due to hyacinth blockage. The bokeh transitions on backdrop made it like a painting! Pics was taken from Purbasthali, West Bengal, India.

back this evening...hope to catch up with all your images over the weekend

Very early sunrise colours...never caught such colours before

Ei Cotillo, Fureteventura. Rather you than me.

A Green Heron works to position his small catch of the morning.

Wishing you all many smiles in 2020! HSoS!

Am Fischadlerhorst ist im Moment viel los.. Drei Jung-Adler schreien rund um die Uhr nach Frischfisch..

Für die Eltern stressige Tage!

There is a lot going on at the osprey nest at the moment.... Three young eagles are screaming around the clock for fresh fish....

Stressful days for the parents!

We escaped the brisk air today and headed to the conservatory to catch some refreshing air and sights. This wonderful plant was recently watered.

It was a steamy hot day today. The dark clouds were rolling in over the city. According to the weather app, there was no rain forecast. The Bureau of Meteorology radar said otherwise. It showed a massive storm happening over the bay. I jumped in the car and raced down to Seaford Pier. I was hoping to catch the lightning display due West, directly down the centre of the pier, but the storm had shifted by the time I arrived. It was hard to pick a bad spot to set up for a photo.

I've never taken photos of lightning before, so there was plenty of trial and error while I dialled in my settings. There were many shots of nothing, but I got some spectacular shots like this one. Really happy for my first attempt.

Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world

Don't be afraid to try the greatest sport around (Catch a wave, catch a wave)

Everybody tries it once

Those who don't just have to put it down

You paddle out turn around and raise

And baby that's all there is to the coastline craze

You gotta catch a wave and you're sittin' on top of the world

I spent time with a pair of obliging Sacred Kingfishers hunting on a farm roadside next to the Snowy River. They demolished an amazing amount of crickets, dragonflies and spiders. Here was one prized 8-legged catch. It looked particularly juicy.

Large duck with a sleek body and thin red bill. Breeding males have a dark green head and mostly white body with peachy blush on underparts. Females and immature males have rusty brown head and gray bodies with a cleanly demarcated white throat. Feeds in rivers, lakes, and large ponds by diving to catch fish. Hardy in winter, often staying as far north as open water permits.

I was out taking shots of frost yesterday when I spotted this.
