On Columbus Day, I went out with a Refuge biologist (Justin) and two volunteers from Necedah's Friends of the Refuge group. We planted grass seed, prairie flowers (yellow cone flower, compass flower, ox-eye). Very meditative, casting seed to the wind!

The clouds look very different from the top, don't they? For one thing, the sky is always sunny up here. Well, almost.. Clearly we are passing through the shadow of a much bigger, much higher storm cloud on the other side of the plane. In fact, we were just about to enter it, totally obscuring the world outside the window. This is from October 2020, when we were all being forced to wear face masks, social distance, and test for Covid to work and travel.
I was just watching Tulsi Gabbard warning us all that there are 25 to 30 US funded bio-labs in war-torn Ukraine, and demanding we shut down the labs there before the deadly pathogens being studied and manipulated are "inadvertently or intentionally" released, and the pathogens be destroyed.
The war-monger Democrats and Republicans accused her of being "Putin's puppet", a "Russian asset", and spreading Russian disinformation. But no one addressed the facts in the matter. No one presented any evidence that there *aren't* nearly 30 bio-labs being funded in a war zone and funded by the US.
Call me crazy, but I'm not crazy enough to put blinders on and just hope Tulsi is crazy, and we're not playing with pathogens with the power to wipe out half of humanity. Only this time it may actually be as dangerous as they claimed Covid would be. And yes, I'm willing to let Putin win in Ukraine if it means securing those pathogens before it's too late.
My preference would be for our government to defund and shut down the labs - even to admit what they were doing funding this kind of "research" outside the US, and avoiding US laws and oversight. We have an outside chance of that happening now that we have an outsider coming into office, but he would be fought every step of the way, as the people doing it would be protecting themselves with every resource they have. Fingers crossed...
