Cytisus scoparius
The first wild one I found in my garden. Didn't pick the best place to start growing - right on the edge of a path. This spring it's too late for moving, but either in autumn or next spring the little bush will get a new home.

Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875)
The Four Parts of the World Holding the Celestial Sphere
Circa 1872
Plaster model
H. 280; W. 177; 145 cm
Les quatre parties du monde soutenant la sphère céleste [The Four Parts of the World Holding the Celestial Sphere]
Baron Haussmann, the prefect of Paris who gave the city the face we know today, commissioned Carpeaux to design a fountain for the Luxembourg Gardens in 1867. The sculptor chose the theme of the four parts of the world turning around the celestial sphere. Not only are the four allegories dancing in a ring, but they are also revolving on the spot. Europe scarcely touches the ground, Asia, with her long pigtail, is seen almost from the back, Africa is in a three-quarter view and America, wearing a feather headdress, is facing the spectator but her body is turned to the side. This taste for movement is one of the features of Carpeaux's art. His passionate nature was quite the contrary of Neoclassic serenity. It was not until 1874, a year before Carpeaux died, that the bronze fountain was set up on the designated site. The tangle of legs displeased the public of the time. Two of the busts exist as separate works. Carpeaux turned the Chinese woman into a man and reproduced the statue in several different materials. The figure of Africa gave rise to a bust that Carpeaux exhibited with the inscription Why be born a slave? This reference to the abolition of slavery is also visible in the statue: America is standing on the broken chain of slavery wrapped around Africa's ankle.

Here's the first result of a new... well, let's call it "technique" I tried. The CAMERA TOSS!
Basically you through your camera in the air (while doing a long exposure) with some light source infront - in this case my tv. The results can be pretty interesting. I used my old samsung exilim, which isn't too good in shape anymore, so I wouldn't be sorry if it fell down :-)
You're asking yourself why someone would do this? Here's a wonderful quote from the flickr group "camera toss": "[...] It is about trading risk for reward in the pursuit of art. It is not about being a photographer, it is about enabling the photography that happens naturally when you let go of the process, give up control, and add a hell of alot more variables. It is about physics, gravity, angular momentum, acceleration, direction, chaos, and timing... most of which you have tenuous control of at best!"
Back to my first result: Do you also recognise a guy's head falling backwards here? :-) I do, but it could be because of my wacky fantasy *lol*

Sona is a common Indo‐Aryan word for ‘gold’. Compare Urdu سونا, Panjabi ਸੋਨਾ sōnā, Hindi सोना sonā. Mandi is a market, as in Urdu منڈی manḍī. So Sona Mandi is a gold market. Both words are used in other store names here in Jackson Heights, New York.

These windows, although the composition I've chosen might not give it away, are massive. It was part of the style of Nazi architecture - big windows, make the people staring up at them feel small, psychological control of the populace through architecture. Clever fascist bastards. The contrast between the sky reflection in the windows and the stonework and the colours therein is what I really like.

Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)
The Boy with the Cat
1868
Oil on canvas
H. 123; W. 66 cm
Le garçon au chat [The Boy with the Cat]
The Boy with the Cat has not given up all its secrets. This male nude has no equivalent in Renoir's work. The identity of the model seen from the back cuddling the cat is unknown. His sly glance at the spectator remains mysterious. The scene does not seem to have any mythological reference.
Renoir painted it in 1868, a turning point for the artist who was still at the beginning of his career. After being refused that the Salons of 1866 and 1867, he had at last tasted success with a large female portrait in the open air, Lise with a Parasol, now in the Folkwang Museum, Essen. The second half of the 1860s was also the time of his comradeship with Bazille, Sisley and Monet. They were all deeply marked by the example of their glorious elders, Courbet and Manet, whose influence can be seen in the realistic treatment and the cold colour harmonies of The Boy with the Cat. The painting was bought in a public auction in 1992 and was a timely addition to the collections of the Musee d'Orsay, where Renoir's early years are poorly represented.

There was going to be a big benefit ride today, but Mother Nature had other plans. Yes, this is yours truly and not too happy about the snow. We had 4 '' of snow on the lawn this morning so the ride was canceled, what a bummer. I had to start riding late because of my back so I'm not ready to be done. Thank goodness for leather !!! When I asked my wife for some snow tires for the bike, she said it's time to put it away. The sun will shine again the riding just can't be over !!!!

Go to 1024:
