An HDR image made of 3 bracketed images. This is a very difficult flower to photograph because of the dominant white colors and the constant swaying (due to the gentle breeze).
To show details, bracketing is a must in this case.
It's that time again. Time to get your vote on.
I know mid-term elections don't seem that exciting, but the decisions you make have broad impact.
One issue close to my heart is Proposition 8 - a measure that amended the California Constitution to say that gay people do not have the right to get married or to enjoy the 1000+ legal benefits of marriage.
Proposition 8 was appealed and found unconstitutional in California District Court in August. This decision was (re)appealed by Prop 8 supporters, and the case has been elevated to Ninth Circuit Court in California. In all likelihood, the Ninth Circuit ruling will be (re-re)appealed and the case will be brought before the US Supreme Court.
So a bunch of justices are making decisions about another state. What does this have to do with you?
Here's where this gets exciting.
The US Supreme Court decision will affect the entirety of the United States.
The supreme court is made up of 9 justices. Five of these 9 justices have served for over 15 years - four of them are over age 70. There is a very real possibility that one of these justices may retire, exit for health reasons, or even pass away.
When there is a Supreme Court vacancy, the president makes an appointment, which the US Senate must confirm. The senate currently has a Democrat majority...meaning that a liberal Supreme Court appointee is likely to be approved. If, however, the Republican party gains a majority in the Senate, they are likely to deny the President's recommendations for Supreme Court Justice.
Currently the Supreme Court is at a relative balance over this issue, with Justice Kennedy likely providing the swing vote to push for marriage equality. The next appointment to the Supreme Court has the potential to strongly swing the court in favour of marriage equality....or in opposition.
And in order to shape the direction of the Supreme Court, we need to shape the direction of the Senate. Your choice for state senator may very well decide whether or not you or your loved ones can get married someday.
Get out your ballot. Look up the issues, the candidates. Consult sources you trust. And spread the vote.

On the reverse of the case the inscription reads "John Fawcett. 1959". In the same auction lot there was a larger, quarter plate image of a young lady captioned "M E Fawcett"

This shot was kind of a "pre-consolation" just in case I got totally Pan-Amed on this gambit. And for those out side New England getting Pan-Amed is foamer-speak for getting royally screwed (I only say screwed because this is a family friendly page but you know what verb I really mean!)
Anyway, knowing I was driving two hours the wrong way after a work night during the week I figured I should stop for something just in case I came up empty on the freight I'd have some miniscule token to take home for my efforts. As it turned out I didn't get PanAmed this time so the photo you see here is just a little bonus.
Having never shot here before and knowing I had time I swung through Kennebunk on the drive north and grabbed this shot of morning Downeaster train 682 heading to Boston. They are seen here zipping west on Pan Am's freight mainline passing the splendidly restored 1873 Boston and Maine passenger station (though an alternate source states this depot was built in 1884). The rail line here was built in 1873 when the B&M extended its own line from South Berwick to Portland to preclude it from having to reach the latter city via the rails of competitor Eastern Railroad that it had been using since 1843. Though 10 years later the B&M leased the Eastern and then purchased it outright in 1890 entirely eliminating competition in the Portland to Boston overland trade.
This tidy little station would remain B&M property until being sold in 1960, five years before the end of passenger service on the route. While passenger trains returned in 2001 with commencement of Downeaster service Kennebunk has yet to receive a stop of its own despite initial plans that were to see one built right here and utilize a portion of the depot. Scheduled to open in 2017 the plans were later shelved by the town and it's yet to be determined if one will ever be built. Until then the station gets only a fleeting view of the Amtrak trains dozen daily passings at 79 mph and a handful of lumbering Pan Am freights at 40.
The impeccably restored privately owned builing now serves as office space (including for a time as the HQ of Tom's of Maine maker of popular all natural soaps and toothpastes) and was listed for sale for just under $1 million in 2019.

It's fun to go back and look over some old photos once in awhile...this was the Nickel Plate on the move to the Quad Cities for Train Fest in 2011. On July 20, it ventured north out of Peoria on the Iowa Interstate, passing the Case dealership at Henry, IL.

I bought this film case about 20 years ago from Spiratone, a camera accessory store in Flushing, NY that went out of business many years ago. It can hold 4 rolls of 35mm film. It's waterproof and supposed to be x-ray proof too but I cannot confirm that. Since then I haven't seen it other stores. I had seen other film cases but not this one.
Prototype blythe protective case. Not a bag, but simply a case to protect the doll from scratches while being stored in my backpack. Blythes are durable, but the plastic is not.
The outer fabric is fancy fabric, then quilt batting in between and then inner fabric is the protective fabric so it should be white so it won't stain anything and it should be soft aswell. The top and bottom flaps closes with soft doll velcro so it can be adjusted depending on if the doll is wearing platform shoes, thick clothes or is nude. Soft doll velcro do not nag in the hair. Then some kind of straps to close it.
I thoughted on sharing the pattern to you, but unfortunately it is BIG, far too big to be scanned...
As this was the prototype I picked a cheap fabric so that's why I chose the cheesy rainbow striped fabric. ;) And the only colorful bias tape long enough was green. Luckily enough it matched colorwise and size was good, so I carried on decorating with beads and all!
