Hello everyone, Here is a quick photo of me waiting on my car to be fixed after it broke down as I was going through the SL16 Birthday sims. Be sure to check out their SL16B sims they did an amazing job! I hope you enjoy, I love the puffy jacket and the pink sweater. xoxo
The dark, cavernous hall of Wisconsin Central’s car shop at Shops Yard in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on a quiet Saturday of October 8, 1994. Looks like a boxcar and a bulkhead flat are among gondolas getting work done at the time.
A Wisconsin Central trackmobile has tugged newly-painted boxcar No. 47675 out onto the transfer table between shop buildings at North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on April 5, 1996. The car’s reporting marks are for WC subsidiary Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Company.
NLR 421 and 422 shove through Waite Park, MN, towards St. Joseph with about a dozen cars on the morning of July 17, 2020. Cool looking pair of Cascade Green GP15-1s on this hot morning here in central Minnesota. Northern Line uses this pair of green Geeps to serve this former BNSF/BN/GN trackage here west of St. Cloud, Minnesota.
I remember shooting in this industrial park, which is just east of the former BN/GN Waite Park carshops, back during my college days at SCSU. The line did not make this S-curve back then and ran on a tangent all the way from St. Cloud Yard to St. Jo. Guess some changes can happen in 20+ years. Have to say these Geeps are better looking than most GPs I shot working for BNSF here around St. Cloud in the late 90s.

A freshly-painted Wisconsin Central boxcar gets finishing touches inside the car shop at the railroad’s Shop Yard complex at North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on October 8, 1994. Two painters on scaffolding letter the right side of the car, while a stencil for the big WC logo awaits painting on the left side.

Even though Union Pacific control of the Missouri Pacific was 18 months away, MoPac Jenks Blue painted locomotives had already begun to make an appearance on far flung UP rails. SD40-2 No. 6047 basks in the brilliant morning sunshine in Provo, Utah on June 13, 1981. It was built by EMD for MoPac in June 1979.
Union Pacific GP9 No. 195 switches the yard near UP’s car shops in Omaha, Nebraska, in June 1981. Mixed in the freight cars in the background are three former Rock Island bay-window cabooses, in three paint schemes, recently acquired from the bankrupt railroad after Rock ceased to exist in 1980.
Even from the back of the locomotive, EMD GP30s looked cool with streamlining along the roofline. UP 862 and 805 were at the maintenance facility in Provo, Utah on March 30, 1977.
Union Pacific GP30 No. 707 and SD45 No. 3647 idle inside the car shop in Provo, Utah on March 9, 1979.

An example of a rebuilt Delaware & Hudson "I Love New York" boxcar rolls by on a train at Holmes Crossing in Binghamton NY on 10 September 1982. The state financed the rehabilitation of 200 of these 50 foot PS cars at the railroad's Oneonta carshop. The program stopped about 2/3 of the way through, the 50084 being one of the initial group of 100 cars to emerge as rolling billboards for New York State tourism.
A pair of Conrail SW1500s pass the Hollidaysburg Car Shop with a freshly painted boxcar in tow. Four years later, Norfolk Southern would shut down the car shop and eventually sell the facility.
Curry Rail's TP56 spots a heavy duty flatcar inside their Hollidaysburg Shop. The was to be evaluated for possible overhaul and return to service. As for late 2020 the car was still in storage.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Car shop at Alliance, Nebraska, has the task of keeping many of the hoppers and gondolas used in grueling Powder River Basin coal service in good repair. I was amazed at how expeditiously they could change out a truck on AEPX gon No. 5029 on July 21, 2003.
Société de chemin de fer de la Gaspésie Train 565-28 arrives at New Richmond on 5/28/2024 with cars for the Ciment McInnis transload. On the former Smurfit Stone mill lead was one of the four new HLCX GP38-3 with another at the nearby Rail GD carshop awaiting lettering.
Since then, the GP38-3's have been placed in service resulting in the 6 RS18u's ending up in the storage line, with the exception of two which have recently been reactivated.

Something I always wanted to do is photograph the little towns nestled between the hills of the Palouse. On my recent trip we got rained out on of the days so we decided to do just that.
This old Dodge dealership in the town of Palouse (population 900) was a very cool find. The car is restored, but inside looks like they walked out one day in 1969 and never came back.
Everything is the same - old phones, fax machines, papers everywhere, shit carpet with coffee stains.

Union Pacific TR5 No. 1875 locks couplers with Union Pacific SD40 No. 3019 and Rio Grande SD45 No. 5337 in Provo, Utah on July 17, 1977. While most of the steam-era facilities had been demolished nearly a decade earlier, the old car shop and turntable were present until the early 1980s when they too were deemed surplus and dismantled.
Union Pacific DD35A No. 71 idles beneath the wooden steam era sand tower in Provo, Utah on May 5, 1979. Only three of UP's 15 DD35A units (70, 71, 77) received the 24" medallions (UP shield) and the larger 20" road numbers on the cab. Sadly, all 15 were retired and scrapped between 1979 and 1982.

It was Thursday, September 22, 1977, the afternoon of my 16th birthday. I had an Azuki 10-speed bicycle, a Canon camera loaded with Kodachrome, and was ready to ride across town to see what was happening at Provo Yard. I arrived just in time to catch this GP9 and two GP9Bs shuffling along the service rail, the perfect gift for a young railfan photographer!
An interesting lineup of diesel locomotives have been serviced and await assignment in Provo, Utah on Sept. 12, 1976. Included are UP SD24 No. 425 (EMD, blt. Sept. 1959), Utah Railway RSD-12 No. 600 (Alco, blt. Jan. 1952) and EMD SD45 No. 5327 (EMD, blt. March 1968). Info from UtahRails.net
I have been wanting to take some photos of this vintage car consignment shop in Pleasanton. Today I happened to stop in front of it at the traffic light. So I rolled down my car window and took a photo of the shop with my Nikon Df conveniently lying on the passenger seat. I finally got the shot.

Chicago & Erie RR "DR" tower at Wilders, Indiana in 1910, Ken Olsen photo collection. Wilders tower protected the crossing of the E/W running Chicago & Erie with the N/S running Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville and the N/S running Chicago & Eastern Illinois (CA&S).
Shown in this photo, which is looking northwest, from left to right is: CI&P Car Repair building (where 2 men and child are standing), the C&E depot, which had a platform that stretched around all 3 railroads, "DR" interlocking tower (which stood in the N/E quadrant of the Erie/Monon diamond, facing the Erie) and a battery shed. The tower was typical of the Erie however, the Erie depot was not a typical design.
The Wilders sign is along the Monon and all 3 roads at this time are single-tracked.
"DR" tower, while in operation, had 14 levers for 15 signals, 6 levers for 2 switches and 8 derails, 3 levers for 3 sets of crossing bars and 5 spares. 23 working levers, 28-leverbed frame. It was made by Taylor Electric Machine company.

B&O 475117 was one of two groups of boxcars built by Raceland Carshops in 1964 and 65 for both the B&O and C&O. This particular series of cars feature Keystone cushion underframes. Another feature was 3" fiberglass insulation. These cars became B62 class under Chessie. This car was photographed on April 27th 1981 at Richmond Va by JR Quinn. JL Sessa collection.
With my recent drone purchase some of the first shots I had in mind were overviews of the former Bangor & Aroostook Derby Shops in Milo, Maine. As with most railroading in Northern New England, Derby has seen many ups and downs. Built in 1905 at the junction of the original mainline to Greenville and the branch to Katahdin Iron Works. Originally known as Milo junction, the Derby name was given later when the railroad built a company town to support the shops. The original mainline to Greenville was abandoned back in the 60's and trackage off the orignal line to KI would become the mainline trunk of the northern portion of the B&A system as they continued to build northward. In the diesel era Derby was used primarily as a car shop with locomotive work done at Northern Maine Junction. During the Iron Roads era, a portion of the carshop was converted to locomotive shops and a large addition, locomotive servicing facilities and a wye were constructed in an area previously covered with storage tracks. As the years have gone on, the large size of the facilities and the physical location on the system do not bode well for the future. Currently owned by the MMA Bankruptcy Trustee, the property is in the process of being transferred to the Town of Milo. CMQ currently leases space for their car and locomotive repair needs along with office space. Unfortunately all the equipment in the machine shop (back shop) is currently being cleaned out and a portion of the boiler house has already been torn down. One has to wonder if the machine shop will be coming down next. The paint shop has seen a brief resurgence recently as a contractor has been painting CMQ SD40-2F's. The turntable is still in service, but the roundhouse is only used for storage. An assortment of locomotives are scattered around the property from stored former MMA units that were sold at auction to stored CITX SD40-2's, tunnel motors and geeps leased by CMQ, a CMQ B23-7 and a few CMQ "blue barns". Observation car "Burnt Hill" formerly part of the B&A business train sits rusting away by the main entrance, stored under cover in the paint shop is another relic from the past former B&A F3 #502.
