By a marvelous stroke of fortune, my commercial jet flight just happened to fly by Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, at a lower altitude than normal, and I just happened to shoot photos of that area. It took me a few years to confirm this actually is Carlsbad Caverns.
The entrance to the Caverns as at the top of the hill (these hills are the Guadalupe Mountains). The light-colored scratchings are the parking lot and Welcome Center. The road to the Caverns comes in from the far side of the hill, after wending its way through the valley on the other side.
