a little boy was holding on to his kite for dear life until his Dad told him to let go. This is the moment he let go- there was a stiff wind and the kit shot up in the air like a rocket....

There are some things about photogrpahy that we never notice until we view an image large in post processing. Something we weren't expecting to capture that makes the photo more appealling. This is one of the fountains found at the St. Louis Zoo. What I noticed when I went to process it, was that I captured the spectrum from the sun on the mist in front of the fountain. It was a nice addition to the shot and ultimately made me enjoy the shot even more. Hope you all enjoy it too! :)

A WWII German camp is captured by the Americans during a reenactment at the American Heritage Museum. Hudson, Massachusetts

This shot was taken on my Feb trip to NYC, while out one evening. The mannequin is in a window for a vintage clothing store on 23rd St in NYC. I am continually fascinated by the changing display here, and evening is always the best time to view it.

...würde man ihn glatt mit nach Hause nehmen wollen!

Captured at work crawling on the backpack of a co-worker. Scary. I had a bark scorpion under a chair by my desk last week too. Scarier.

Two Jewish fighters captured by the SS. It's likely that these two men will be shot within minutes of this photograph being taken.

Captured in the early morning.

Well, it's not going to win any awards for space photography, but we think we saw the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction from our back window earlier this evening! Pretty cool.

"Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."

The butterfly isn't mine, nor did I capture it. I'm afraid I lack the ability. Also, excuse the apparent lack of hand, funny angle i suppose.

Pic of a scenic environment with evening rays!

Born in Ireland......Peter O'Brien would win himself a United States Congressional Medal of Honor toward the twilight of the war for "Capture of flag and of a Confederate officer with his horse and equipment"........Unlike most CMOH's from the Civil War, O'brien didn't have to wait long for his as it was issued 3/26/1865 for actions that occur 3/2/1865........

This is a video of a bee swarm I captured today. I swept the bee swarm (football size) from an avocado trees branch into a card board box, and then dumped them in from of the "nuc" hive. In no time, the bees quickly marched into their new home. How cool is that!

NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has captured a new, infrared view of the choppy star-making cloud called M17, also known as the Omega Nebula or the Swan Nebula.

The cloud, located about 6,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius, is dominated by a central group of massive stars -- the most massive stars in the region. These central stars give off intense flows of expanding gas, which rush like rivers against dense piles of material, carving out the deep pocket at center of the picture. Winds from the region's other massive stars push back against these oncoming rivers, creating bow shocks like those that pile up in front of speeding boats.

Three of these bow shocks are nestled in the upper left side of the central cavity, but are difficult to spot in this view. They are composed of compressed gas in addition to dust that glows at infrared wavelengths Spitzer can see. The smiley-shaped bow shocks curve away from the stellar winds of the central massive stars.

This picture was taken with Spitzer's infrared array camera. It is a four-color composite, in which light with a wavelength of 3.6 microns is blue; 4.5-micron light is green; 5.8-micron light is orange; and 8-micron light is red. Dust is red, hot gas is green and white is where gas and dust intermingle. Foreground and background stars appear scattered through the image.

sent to kelly627. first one I've done......definitely making more ;)

I captured this Male Cardinal (that is photographically) this morning right after I pulled into my parking spot. He was quite photogenic, posing for several shots for me. I wish I hadn't had to shoot through the front windshield, but if I had opened the window, I'm afraid he would have flown away. These are my favorite birds, so I was pretty excited that I had my DSLR with me.

Attempted to show difference in speed of the moon traveling across the night sky, but wound up inconclusive. Very similar to the shot "Five Pearls of a Hunter's Moon" here.

I used the D200's multiple exposure and intervalometer settings to space exposures exactly 2:33 apart (ISO 100, f/8, 1/200s). I was hoping the distance between the moon edges would change over the 23 minute capture period (10 exposures = 9 intervals x 2:33). Maybe try a longer interval and wider lens next time. Would've gone with more exposures, but the multiple exposure feature is limited to ten.

very bad for my camera. I took a risk to do this photoshoot during strong winds and lots of sand blown up from the beach.

the camera survived.
