This is a record shot of the rarely seen opened wings of a female Clouded Yellow Butterfly (Colias croceus). They never seem to settle with their wings open so I was pleased to capture this shot in flight. Not the sharpest of images I know, but chuffed that I had accidentally managed to capture it.
Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fave my images.
Spent a beautiful day getting up to the Gabler peak this autumn. There is a small wooden shelter, so called Gabler Biwak...as shown on this capture. Will return to that great spot next year, as the panorama is gorgous from there. Have a good start into the new week soon. Thx, Udo

This image was captured as the beautiful white throated male mountain gem was in the process of stretching . This is a species that is often seen in the gardens near Savegre in Costa Rica . They are vibrant and feisty little hummingbirds and always a thrill to see.
Wishing you all a wonderful and blessed July 4th !!
Royal Scot Class 4-6-0 46115 'Scots Guardsman' stands at Newcastle Central with West Coast Railway Company's steam excursion from York to Edinburgh (1Z78).
It was nice to see the drama of the event appealed to folk across the ages!
For the lucky passengers, the journey from here to Edinburgh was a leisurely one taking just over 4 hours - plenty of time to allow the fine dining to digest before a bit of sight-seeing around the hilly Auld Toun!
Steam locos don't feature too often on this stream but, being up in Newcastle for a few days, it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss. Looks best full-screen.

A previously unpublished shot from May 2017. In fact from the 14th May so that is two uploads today that are exactly 5 years old to the day and have never before been seen. I hope you like them. I'm off to get some food prepped for my Eurovision Song Contest party - a party for two but a party none-the-less. Wishing you all a great weekend!

I love light, I love Autumn, I tried to capture it in this image. The colours of this season are so beautiful.
Have a lovely Autumnal day... or, if you in the Southern Hemisphere enjoy early spring.

This wet feather was sitting on a fence in the Lyde Garden that I was walking in. I liked the colour contrasts, the water drops, and the way that part of it was draped over the edge.

A colorful medium sized raptor found pretty much across the country - though in varying frequency. In Goa and Karnataka, I sighted 1000's literally. The sky was full of them everywhere within 4-5 kms of a water body - and there were water bodies everywhere.
This is a male based on the colorful plumage and it was sitting atop this coconut tree and preening itself. This was shot in some mudflats and there were 1000's of waders. The bird would dive and scare the birds making the large flock of waders move up and around several times. I suppose it was tiring them out before making a capture.
Interestingly, on the tree behind the bird were two rare White Bellied Sea Eagles - think there was a nest there. That large eagle was a lifer for me, but couldn't manage anything more than a record shot.
Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.
Capture of this juvenile bald eagle after it ate its fish ... then just chilling in the warm sunlight on the cool Fall day.
Life was good for this youngster at least for that moment in time.
Playing with items found in my kitchen is a wonderful way to dive into macro photography. I found myself thinking about the lyrics of the song, America the Beautiful. This is my version of purple mountain majesties, with a splash of pink and yellow. "The force that propels the human spirit on the clear way forward and upward is the abstract spirit."
