Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940. It is one of some 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plant's extract. In 2018, clinical research on cannabidiol included preliminary studies of anxiety, cognition, movement disorders, and pain. It is a largely spoken about topic in the present time.

#Cannabis products are becoming more and more popular, with different medicinal or other properties that can definitely be a bit of a problem. One may wonder though which one is right for you. While this does vary from each person to the next, it does involve whether or not you need #CBD or #THC.
CBD or THC?
When you’re looking at dispensaries, you’ve got these two compounds. They do have benefits that do overlap, but the terpenes, other #cannabinoids and the like are usually not the main focus. There are medicinal benefits for both of these that we’ll go into here.
The primary difference between both of these is that one gets you high, and the other one does not, but basically offers the same therapeutic benefits without the intoxicating results from this. They’re made up of two kinds of atoms of oxygen, and then 21 carbon atoms, and 30 hydrogen atoms, all of which are pretty common.
This is something that is arranged in differ ways, and they affect the #neurotransmitters in different ways. But they do offer benefits for different reasons, and they can be therapeutic for you as well.
Benefits of THC
THC is great at for the high reasons, and while it is a psychoactive, there are other reasons why people really like THC as a compound, and it’s something that’s celebrated.
For starters, it’s great for pain relief. This is great for activating the pain pathways, preventing these signals from getting overwhelming, and they can be a replacement for very addictive opioids as well.
It’s also great for anxiety. It calms down those with autism when people feel overstimulated and it can be good for acute anxiety too.
It does naturally relax the muscles, giving you a lot of benefits, and it can be good for muscle cramps, insomnia, and even MS in some cases.
Finally, it’s good for glaucoma, which is a condition that affects vision and your optic nerve. It does lower the intraocular pressure within the eye, especially those with #glaucoma, and is essential for the management of this condition in a lot of cases too.
CBD Benefits
There are other benefits that come with CBD a swell, which we’ll go over here.
The most common is that it’s really good for inflammation and can be used as a replacement for usual pain relief meds such as ibuprofen and the like. It’s also good for those who deal with constant inflammatory conditions. They usually are safer than NSAID, which do cause kidney and liver damage over a long period of time.
Cannabis also helps with #stress and #anxiety. This is great for sort-term anxiety, since it can help with relaxing chronic stress and the like, and it does work well. The exact mechanism is still something looked at.
Finally, #diabetes is another thing it helps with. It does help with the need to gorge on food, and it was found that diabetes along with obesity were actually a third lower than those users who didn’t use this. While there may be munchies with THC, that’s not the case with those that take pure CBD products.
With anything though, you should definitely talk to your doctor and see if it’s right for you.
Understanding the #health differences of this is very important, and it does offer a variety of amazing health benefits that can be good for those users, and it can be a great way to ensure that you’re taking care of your mind and body, and from there are also treating yourself as well for the conditions you have.
The classical cannabinoids are concentrated in a viscous resin produced in structures known as glandular trichomes. At least 113 different cannabinoids have been isolated from the Cannabis plant, the main classes of cannabinoids from Cannabis are shown. The best studied cannabinoids include tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabinol (CBN).
There is new #cannabis news now more than ever, and many people are now looking at the new cannabis alternative called delta-8. With more and more getting rid of the “lazy stoner” mindset, more people are looking at other #cannabinoid options, and that’s where #delta-8 is coming in. it’s still a grey topic, but here we’ll go over why this is considered legal cannabis.
What is It?
Delta 8 is basically similar to delta-9, which is a cannabinoid in the plant itself. They’re so similar, but #delta-9 gives you the high, and delta-8 does the same, but to a smaller amount.
This is a cannabinoid that does bind to the receptors, giving you the same head rush, but it’s not as strong.
This is much less potent, but also gives you the popular benefits of #THC and #CBD as well. This is basically a loophole simply because they’re basically legal so long as the plant it comes from doe shave less than Delta-9 in terms of #THC.
Is it Really Lega?
While many do believe that it’s fully legal, there are a few things that are very important to know when you’re buying this, and also involving the transport of products that do end up containing this.
Delta-8 does work in smaller numbers in the hemp plant, and usually, these products become delta-9 products through synthetic means. The conversion is still a gray area legally when it comes to the law federally, and it may not be totally legal in some cases. There are some states as well that ban the sales of this simply because it does come from the same place delta-9 does.
And right now, the DEA is trying to push for legislation that would say that delta-8 is considered a controlled substance. This would make it a bit more distinct legally from CBD, but also does put it in the same place as heroin and cocaine, and this can actually put a larger crackdown on anything synthetic, so it’s not totally accurate to put it in the same place.
This gets this distinction because it doesn’t happen in enough large amounts for viable production commercially, and instead is extracted through the CBD in the hemp plant ,created synthetically to be resold as recreational or through therapeutic drug scales.
Is it CBD Then?
They may seem similar, but they’re not the same. Both of these are consider the main part of “weaker” forms of cannabis products that tend to not have as strong of a high, though some of the therapeutic elements of this are much more pronounced, as those who use Delta-8 do have similar effects.
Both do come from the #cannabis #plant, and this is happening naturally. To produce this on a more massive scale, this is something that is synthetically made via CBD as well.
One of these were made possible for #consumers to get through the farm bill, and that is still subject to regulation in a few states.
While they might seem similar, they do come from different chemical markets and users.# CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive, but some do say it does help with stress relief, but delta-8 does on the other hand, and is considered another form of THC, despite not being as psychoactive, and isn’t as potent as delta-9 is in a lot of cases.
It is something that is still being figured out today though, with retailers trying to discern the differences of each.
There is still a lot to be said about this, and right now, with the legal concerns in place, it’s hard to get a full understanding.

#Hypertension is something that can be negatively impacted by various items, and there are definitely some concerns with using this.
Does #cannabis help with lowering this? It can, but let’s take a deeper look.
Does Cannabis lower Blood Pressure?
Well, according to some studies, there was found that if you do intake it, it does cause a spike in the blood pressure. This is a temporary spike, and it does play a part in the red eyes that you see after #smoking.
In another study though, it was found that the #cardiovascular system may be affected in the long term.
The problem is that there are so few studies on cannabis and hypertension that it can actually be hard to tell.
The problem as well, is that smoking cannabis does open the doors to other types of smoking, such as #tobacco, and that does contribute to #hypertension and also heart disease too.
In an article that was done by #Harvard, it was found that among over 1000 people over the years, those who were at risk for hypertension, heart disease, and death was those who were using cannabis, but they didn’t account for other factors.
They decided a user was anyone who touched cannabis, whether or not it was a spliff ten years ago, or every single day.
In another study, it looked at cannabis and the blood pressure differences in humans along with animals, and it was found that while weed works to increase your blood pressure, it actually reduces it in animals. This is why it’s definitely reduced in another study in rats injected with this, and it means that the findings aren’t applicable to humans.
While there is evidence that shows it doesn’t treat it, isolating cannabis may work if it’s not done with smoking, but otherwise it doesn’t benefit you.
Can it Ever Lower?
That’s something we’re not clear on. But if you have hypertension, be mindful when using cannabis. Be cautious, and if the evidence points to anything, it shows that it makes the problem worse, rather than making it better.
The only solution where this does differ is where there are environmental factors that come with this, but this depends on the individual and the reaction they have to cannabis. Even if the cannabis does work instantly, it’s the symptoms that are there that’s being dealt with, and not the cause of this. If stress is chronically causing you to have high blood pressure, removing the stress would be better than removing the weed.
What about CBD
CBD DOES actually help to actually help with this.
While cannabis may increase this, that’s not the case in every instance.
In a study, it was found that it did have the capabilities to do so, but the thing is, it’s a large amount of CBD, and a very small study, and it was limited.
But guess what? It does open up the door for research in how this affects blood pressure. It can be good for helping with this.
But all in all, it’s important to understand that there are indeed better ways to handle blood pressure and hypertension in the world. Cannabis plays a larger role n that than expected.
There is research showing that cannabis and blood pressure is still not that good, but there are so many cannabinoids that maybe just maybe, once we get to look at this a little bit more, we’ll find exactly what types of compounds are possible, and whether or not this is a way to handle high blood pressure, e of if it’s bad.

#Bacteria has plagued the world for thousands of years, but there are now more ways than ever before to fight this. #Antibiotics have saved people, and while they’ve been used for a long time, it’s a beneficial idea.
Can #Marijuana Help?
While some people can use antibiotics, antibiotic resistance, where the body doesn’t respond to it due to consuming too much, is a big problem.
There is a chance that it may help, but it’s important to understand that #antibiotics come from fungi, which are naturally occurring, and plants have always been engaging with microbes and bacteria for thousands of years.
So what this means is that they’re good at keeping this fully at bay. That, and combined with how plants protect themselves through metabolites can help with this, and it’s a way that these can work as weapons.
#Cannabis plants do have a lot of plants in their arsenal, which includes 100 different #cannabinoids, and 200 different terpenes to help.
The Antibiotic Potential of #Terpenes and Cannabinoids
While THC and CBD are the two biggest chemicals that are found in marijuana plants, there are other substances that actually do impact the endocannabinoid system as well.
Some research has explored whether or not there are antibacterial responses in these.
There were studies that took place back in the 1950s, and usually, they do have some bacterial effects, the lack of knowledge that’s there has prevented people from determining whether these are the constituents that are active as well.
Some research was found that there is bacteriostatic and bactericidal actions within #CBD and #THC and the benefits that are seen against bacteria that are gram positive.
Some studies have also discovered that hemp is really good against bacteria.
The preparation of these cannabinoids, and terpenes, including #limonene, #pinene, and ocimene as well are a big part of this, and they are able to tackle the microbial activity.
This can prove to be a beneficial part of future research in the body.
Some studies also discovered that there are different cannabinoids that are in place, and it may be a possibility for new antibiotics too.
THC ais one of the main part of cannabis may cause the high, and it may possibly offer some promising results. But for right now, there are studies which are further exploring this in much greater depth, and the findings from a paper back in 2008 discovered that there is a possibility that #cannabis may help with fighting the MRSA effects too.
The other Cannabinoids?
While THC is a big part of this, let’s also look at the possibility of other cannabinoids that may help with this.
First is CBD, which doesn’t produce the high, but instead users feel a lot more clear headed, and it can help with fighting inflammation. There is some potential #benefits that they may be able to fight against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria, and it also may be used to combat urgent threat gram-negative bacteria, including Neisseria gonorrhea.
Then there is CBD, which is a form of CBDA, the mother cannabinoid. It’s not #psychotropic as well, and it’s been found that it’s similar to vancomycin, which is a fungal medication that’s used to fight different models of #MRSA #bacterial #strains and others.
But there’s’ still a lot that we don’t know about this, so if you’ve been curious about where this will go, right now, the only thing that we can do at the moment is to wait and see what other major cannabinoid discoveries have and the future of these practical kinds of applications for the body too.

For a lot of people, #epilepsy is a very hard thing to live with. It can happen no matter where, with the results being debilitating, and for #children, this becomes problematic with their developmental issues if they have symptoms. If the #symptoms aren’t managed, it’s a problem.
According to a new study, it was found that the #cannabinoids from whole flower could help, in a way that it activates both the CB1 and the CB2 receptors, in order to help benefit this.
This paper did find that this is a great seizure treatment and may work for those children that have symptoms that don’t properly respond to other kinds of epilepsy treatments too.
How cannabis Helps
#Cannabis helps a lot of people for different reasons, and some studies have been found that for those who have epilepsy, tis can be a form of treatment.
How it works is something that is still being looked at, but there are a ton of clinical studies which show that with moderate, or even severe epilepsy, it can be a form of treatment for these disorders.
It’s even been found that cannabis may be better for relieving symptoms than even normal medications for this. The FDA even approved a drug to hep with this as well and is still being formulated and used by many people already.
Using cannabis for #spasms that happen is actually not something brand new. In fact, it’s been used for almost two millennia, in order to treat epileptic conditions, since this can help with seizures of all kinds.
There were also patients that used cannabidiol that actually helped their child with severe forms of epilepsy.
In the study, it was found that the child had a rare type of epilepsy called Dravet syndrome. The cannabinoids created life-changing results for the child, and her family was also happy with the results of this too.
While the child did pass away due to other problems, complications in different health related issues, it also has shown that the therapy behind this is legit, and it can be used with this.
The problem, however, is that because of cannabis prohibition, the endorsement of this is well, a big deal for tons of people, both adults and children with the condition.
It was found however, that it actually reduces up to 86% of outbursts and moments of epilepsy in children who use this and may prove to be a promising study for those who need it.
Children and cannabis
Children who have a diagnosed condition are allowed to access cannabis, and a parent or guardian who has access to a medical marijuana facility can possibly get their child onto the #medical #cannabis program to assist them.
Those who use this though do need to consult medical practitioners for the right recommendations and practices, and in some cases, they may need to help administer cannabis to the minor in some cases.,
If a child is using cannabis for any developmental issues of physical issues, there are also what’s called low #THC products for them to use. This is something that actually helps with the #psychoactive results that may impact a child, reducing paranoia and other issues too.
They also may use concentrated cannabis, which may be beneficial for end of life care for those minors who do need it.
Overall, cannabis can help minors who suffer from epilepsy, and help them get the care that they deserve, while also making sure that there is some benefit to this, so that children can get the help they need and reduce episodes as well.

The NIH supports a broad portfolio of research on cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system. This research portfolio includes some studies utilizing the whole marijuana plant (Cannabis sativa), but most studies focus on individual cannabinoid compounds. Individual cannabinoid chemicals may be isolated and purified from the marijuana plant or synthesized in the laboratory, or they may be naturally occurring (endogenous) cannabinoids found in the body.

An epidemic of artificial cannabinoid addiction took hold amongst the homeless as the government postured and ignored the reality of its own culpability. This scene was all too common across the centre of Manchester and other UK cities. For the record, the media tended to refer to these chemicals as 'spice', even though this was merely a brand name for some of the earliest chemicals of this class.
Cannabinoids 101: What Makes Cannabis Medicine
#Cannabinoids101
We live in #ironic times: a #plant that’s been labelled #criminal and #dangerous is #providing unrivaled #relief for a variety of #symptoms and #conditions. #Cannabis strains bring a colorful variety of #medicinal effects, but when confronted with the question of how consuming #marijuana could possibly be good for you, not everyone knows how to respond.
This brief look at #cannabis #chemistry is meant to arm you with a basic knowledge of how #marijuana affects the brain and body. Not only will you better understand your #medicine, you’ll be able to #educate others about why cannabis is truly a #safe, #natural, and effective #remedy.
What are Cannabinoids?
One hefty word that belongs in every #medicalmarijuanapatient’s vocabulary is cannabinoid. #Cannabinoids (e.g., #THC and #CBD) are the #chemicalcompounds secreted by #cannabisflowers that provide #relief to an array of symptoms including #pain, #nausea, and #inflammation. These work their #medicinalmagic by imitating compounds our bodies #naturally #produce, called #endocannabinoids, which activate to maintain internal stability and health. To put a complex system simply, they mediate communication between #cells, and when there is a #deficiency or problem with our #endocannabinoidsystem, unpleasant symptoms and physical complications occur.
When cannabis is consumed, cannabinoids bind to #receptor sites throughout our brain (receptors called #CB1) and body (#CB2). Different cannabinoids have different effects depending on which receptors they bind to. For example, #THC binds to receptors in the brain whereas #CBN (#cannabinol) has a strong affinity for CB-2 receptors located throughout the body. By aiming the right cannabinoid at the right receptors, different types of relief are achievable.
This concept is the cornerstone of cannabis as medicine, and the results are so promising that these cannabinoids have been #synthesized for #legalprescription use. Some #syntheticcannabinoid medications include #Marinol, #Nabilone, #Sativex, and #Rimonabant. While these synthetic forms are effective, research shows that herbal cannabis contains a far wider variety of therapeutic compounds.
Cannabis contains at least #85typesofcannabinoids, many of which have #documented #medicalvalue. #Products and #strains have been developed to deliver larger doses of different cannabinoids, so knowing which types best treat your symptoms is a handy piece of #knowledge to bring to your next #dispensary visit.

Whether you use #cannabis a lot or not, you’ve probably heard someone talk about what’s called the #entourage effect, which is #synergy that happens when the THC, cannabinoids, CBD, and the terpenes work to offer #health benefits throughout the body.
This is called whole-plant #medicine, or whole-plant synergy, and it has the idea that the cannabis products that are there and offer diverse compounds offer health benefits that the isolated compounds may not.
The first discussion of whole-plant synergy was back in 1998, where the research discussed that the #endocannabinoid receptors are better when using whole-plant cannabis, rater than just a part of it, and it’s oftentimes more synergistic, and more effective than drugs that have just one part of the plant molecules to it.
The entourage effect though these days is basically a part of the lexicon of cannabis that’s pretty much on all of the products these days.
But does it really work?
Well, there have been a lot of different studies that dig deep into this, with more and more researchers investigating the compounds that are there to question this, and some have said that this is now over-pitched too. The mechanisms aren’t as clear cut though as the #marketing of cannabis wants us to think.
So What is it?
Well, there is some evidence that says that the effects of cannabinoids do boost the other cannabinoids, such as THC affecting the #CBD, and also may help the more minor kinds of #cannabinoids too.
There’s been a study on tissues that are cancerous, and the presence of even the minor cannabinoids did help isolate the tumor and helped kill it and reduce the growth of it.
There is some synergy found in this, simply because there are different compounds included in this.
CBD as well as just an extract doesn’t perform as well as whole-plant extracts, especially when treating severe instances of epilepsy.
Right now there, there is evidence that CBD can control the effects of THC at the different #receptor sites. So by that logic, the entourage effect is thus very real.
This is also why pure CBD is not as effective, and why it’s encouraged to have whole-plant cannabis, and the entourage effects are #extrapolated beyond what’s there for the current evidence. There are ideas as well that other #chemicals are important for the CBD to work and right now aren’t supported at the present moment.
There is also the role of the minor cannabinoids too, and right now we don’t’ know as much about those compared to THC and the other main cannabinoids that are there.
Remember, the cannabis plant comes with a bunch of other molecules that may work together to make sure that you get the best results.
But also understand that there are those that aren’t fully understood. While they may support the THC actions, it may not support everything.
In the case of terpenes, usually they don’t facilitate this effect whatsoever, so even the most common terpenes in your cannabis product won’t cause a response to the receptors or create the entourage effect.
There is another though where both the #terpenes and cannabis works together, which interacts. So if there is cannabis with the terpenes, it might work.
But with the entourage effect, right now it’s a fancy work to discuss the product, and there isn’t a bunch of information one way or another. But it may be interesting to learn about more in the future, and what may come about as a result of this as well for future cannabis product consumption too.

The Legality of CBD in the UK
Despite the rise in popularity among the UK population, legislation has been slow to adopt a pro “legal CBD” stance. In fact, strictly speaking, cannabis oil is generally illegal to use, supply or possess…with one major caveat…
Since its addition to high street stores the Cannabis Trades Association UK reports that the number of UK residents participating in CBD consumption has increased from an estimated 125,000 to over 250,000 within a brief 12-month window of time.
The times, as they say, are “a changing”. As the world moves to a more progressive stance on cannabis and its derivative products we may see laws continue to evolve towards a more positive stance on CBD.
Currently CBD will continue to be extracted from hemp and as such will be governed under FSA and MHRA in the UK as a food type rather than a schedule 1 drug.
How Cannabinoid Oil Became Legal in the United Kingdom
Cannabinoid Oil legally became a medicinal ingredient in the UK on October 13, 2016. CBD oil must meet stringent production standards to be allowed for sale. This may pose an issue for smaller producers selling CBD oil as an herbal remedy.
Types of CBD Products Legal in the UK
Cannabinoid oil comes in many different forms. Some prefer the taste of one way of taking the oil to another, so it is good to have options to choose from. Understanding what your options are will help you to make the decision on which method you would like to use to consume your CBD oil. Your doctor can also recommend the best method for your particular ailment.
CBD Oil
CO2 extraction is used to extract the CBD oil from the cannabis plant. Put simply, this environmentally-friendly process breaks down parts of the plant and turns it into a super-concentrated oil. It can be ingested after holding under the tongue for about a minute, or you can use a vaporizer to inhale it, similar to an e-cigarette.
Capsules
CBD oil capsules are easy to swallow. It is a good way to take CBD if the taste is unpleasant, however some of it will be broken down before the body can use it. They are pre-measured, so you know how big of a dose you are taking
Topical CBD Uses
CBD also comes as lotions or balms. You can rub this into your skin for pain relief or to help treat arthritis. If you choose to use this method to apply CBD, know that it can take longer to take effect. It has also been reported that this topical method can provide longer lasting effects.
Edible CBD Products
Known as “edibles” for short, these products are food infused with CBD oil. These products are usually snacks like candy or brownies. Some restaurants have started to experiment with CBD-infused foods. CBD-infused foods are not only trendy, they are extremely delicious!
CBD Paste
Paste is thicker than CBD oil but embodies the same concept. It can also be taken under the tongue or mixed into food or drink for consumption.
CBD Tea
Tea infused with cannabinoid oil is available in loose-leaf or tea bag form. This is a great method for extra relaxation. It is also very relaxing to put some CBD oil into your favourite tea! An herbal stress reliever tea combined with a drop of CBD oil in the evening is a great way to relax for bed!
CBD vs THC: Why it Matters
With the increasing popularity surrounding cannabis derived products for both recreational and medicinal purposes, it is important to distinguish between those that illicit the “high” we all are aware cannabis can cause (largely via THC) and other medicinal cannabinoids such as CBD, or cannabidiol which do not cause such effects and are routinely used as holistic health treatments.
In layman's terms, THC is the psychoactive part of the hemp plant, while CBD offers multiple health benefits without the psychoactive properties.
The Debate Rages on
Given the rise in use and popularity, the medical, scientific and general population have been engaging in heated debate concerning the benefits of both THC and CBD compounds on the mind and body.
The Endocannabinoid System
To fully understand the health benefits of CBD, it is important to study the ECS, or endocannabinoid system that is present in the body.
CBD in the UK is legal as an oil. As a whole-plant product, it is not. It is important to be sure to purchase CBD oil and that the extraction is free from THC.
What are Endocannabinoids?
Endocannabinoids are molecules that bind to cannabinoid receptors. They are made naturally by the body and come in two forms: anandamide and 2-AG. These are formed on an as-needed basis by your body. Endocannabinoids can help regulate inflammation and optimize neuron communication in the brain.
How the Endocannabinoid System Works
The endocannabinoid system is made up of cell receptor proteins, meaning that these receptors exist for cannabinoids in the human body.
Types of Cannabinoid Receptors
There are two types of cannabinoid receptors. CB1 receptors are present in massive amounts in the brain. This is the type of receptor most associated with THC use. The other type of receptor is CB2. CB2 receptors are more abundant in the immune system. Both types of cannabinoid receptors exist throughout the body in some amount.
Making Use of Legal Cannabinoids in the UK
Modern medicine is a wonderful field and being able to combine proven remedies from the past with advances in science enables humankind to take advantage of the best remedies from every area.
Whether it is a pill or a plant, many items can work together to promote the functioning of healthy minds and bodies. CBD oil, now harvested with modern techniques, analyzed in a lab to ensure quality, and packaged in multiple forms of enjoyment, can help people in many ways. Whether it is a beauty product or a treatment for someone desperate to feel relief from their condition, CBD oil being legal in the UK helps everyone.

Fatty Acid Amide Hydrolase is the enzyme responsible for the degradation of Anandamide. Anandamide is the body’s “natural marijuana”. Studies on mice have conclusively identified this chemical’s role in the susceptibility of drug abuse.
Mice missing the FAAH enzyme showed a much higher dependency on cannabinoid receptor stimuli.
When they performed these tests on humans, the results were the same.
If you’re born with a missence mutation of Fatty Acid Amide Hydrolase, your probability for abusing drugs increases 60%.

A homeless man plays with the temporary escape route from his misery, which he surely knows will create further pain in the medium and long term. This was the sharp end of artificial cannabinoid use in the UK, as a ruthless uncaring government fought its posturing and futile war against people/drugs.
