Saltese Wetlands: Yellow-headed Blackbird - Calling in the Wind

3796

This is my 1st uploaded attempt with the new LrC lens blur feature.

I'm not a pixel peeper, but I can see that the bottom right of the bird needed more original focus.

I'd appreciate additional feedback & suggestions, especially when doing LightRoom post with wildlife pix.

Tx! 😁

Saltese Flats was once a nearly thousand-acre lake & was partially drained around 1900 for timothy hay agriculture. The Lake—originally spelled "Seltice" Lake—was named after Chief Andrew Seltice of the Coeur d'Alene tribe, who lived in a home on the west side.

Spokane County purchased 580 acres & began the wetlands restoration process in 2019. The project provides enhanced wildlife habitat, recreation, and strategic water management benefits. The primary goal is to restore the wetlands habitat while increasing late summer water flow into the Spokane River via the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer. It has become an important stopover site for migratory waterfowl, as well as a wide variety of other birds and animals that once again call this home.

Does this count as Urbex? a rusty old phone box found while out walking the Clydach Gorge. There's not that many of these heavy old fashioned boxes left so hopefully it will be salvaged.

It had been several years since I had last been out to Abiqua Falls. In fact, on that first trip Owen wasn't even quite two years old and him and Wendi waited in the car while I navigated the slippery, mud slope down to this relatively remote waterfall. So during the recent cold snap, we figured it was time for a return visit. Personally, I was hoping for a bit of ice, and though the puddles of water on the road down to Abiqua were crusted with ice, the falls were sadly lacking any of the frozen stuff.

That didn't slow down me or my pinhole very much though.

Flight pictures are easy to obtain locally , so it's always a pleasure to catch one roosting.

I believe this may be scruffy, sadly he seems to have damaged his left eye.

"Beelzebub is aching in my belly-o

My feet are heavy and I'm rooted in my wellios

And I want to get away and go

From all these mirror windows

I look at eye level, it isn't good enough

And then I find it out, when I take a good look up

There's a hole in the sky with a big eyeball

Calling me "

I just moved into a new apartment. Not the one pictured, but one with a lot of white walls, and a policy that doesn't allow pets! How am I suppose to fulfill my destiny of being a crazy cat man?

Lately I have been feeling trapped, or restricted by the walls I put up. When I feel this way I have to remind myself that I can change the way I think. I can be hopeful, and determined. Rather than pitiful, and gloomy, which leads to stress eating chocolate bars! I've learned that whatever it is I may be struggling with, to not be afraid to call for help.

for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away

like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf. The good you do for others is good you do yourself......"

The weather and work have been conspiring against me recently, been unable to get out much with the camera so here`s a shot from Hyde Park Calling in 2007. Couldn`t see much on the stages for the rain but the fairground rides looked good!
