I had dropped Derek off the night before and when I woke up in the morning and got in my car this was in the passenger seat. I thought it was funny that they were in a perfect line. He didn't leave them on purpose.

Pier A, also known as City Pier A, is a pier located in the Hudson River at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It was built from 1884 to 1886 as the headquarters of the New York City Board of Dock Commissioners and the New York City Police Department’s Harbor Department. The pier is a New York City designated landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In addition to being a popular fishing destination, Pier A is also home to the American Merchant Mariner’s Memorial. The memorial is a bronze sculpture created by Marisol Escobar in 1991 and takes the form of three merchant seamen stranded on a sinking ship, terrified, calling for help and trying to reach the desperate hand of one of their shipmates floundering in the water below. The sculpture is based on a true event, the sinking of SS Muskogee by German U-boat 123 on March 22nd, 1942. The Muskogee was sailing from Venezuela to Halifax carrying a cargo of petroleum. Without an escort and unarmed, the Muskogee was hit by a torpedo in her engine room and began to sink within a quarter of an hour, 335 miles north-northeast. Ten survivors clung to life rafts in the burning sea as the U-boat surfaced. The submarine captain Reinhard Hardegen took their photograph, and it’s from this that Escobar based her sculpture.
The memorial serves as a marker for America’s merchant mariners resting in the unmarked ocean depths. It is a moving tribute to all those who have lost their lives at sea and serves as a reminder of the dangers that seafarers face every day.

This is the first time I spotted this beautiful Crimson-breasted Barbet. While I have to thank the zoom in my camera for capturing this beautiful bird from a distance, today I felt the need for a better camera :( . [Picture is not too sharp....but a less than 6 inch bird from about 20 feet away..not bad I guess :) ]
He did not look this silly all the time ..he was probably calling out to his mate...an incessant repeated "took" on the same pitch.
