Red fox looking at the remains of the second breakfast that I had put out for the Starlings, Robins and Blackbirds. The cage keeps the Pigeons, Magpies and Crows out.
Many of these buildings are waiting to be torn down for redevelopment and many of the old shops here will soon be gone. Thanks to the money-oriented Hong Kong government!

A lot of the air of melancholy in this room seems to emanate from the use of wired glass in all of its outside windows. This type of glazing is normally used as a fire barrier to separate two internal rooms or zones of a building to slow the spread of heat and flame. Its embedded wire mesh holds the glass together when it is subjected to high temperatures. Here it is used in outside windows and creates a caged effect.
The view out adds to the eerie atmosphere. The shape seen through the left hand window which looks a bit like a hilltop medieval castle is in fact a chimney stack with what is known as “louvred Bishop” type pots. The tower to the right is St Johns Beacon.

A personal account of how and why I started shooting the night:
Today we went to the zoo. It was a spur of the moment decision but it made Sunday just a little bit more interesting.
Just before Pietermaritzburg. KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
I tried to get photos without the bars ruining the shot but I couldn't get close enough.
Narayanganj, Bangladesh.
There are cages you make around yourself.
There are cages, that you can't break open.
{Giveaway 2 of 10} READ TO END TO WIN A THINK TANK BAG, valued at $200.
As I reflect this month on the past 10 years of my art, I can remember such vivid highs and lows.
I remember whole years where I was mostly ashamed of what I produced (hello 2013) and years where I couldn’t be more proud of what I accomplished in business (also hello 2013). I remember winning contests and meeting Ron Howard and exhibiting with Jerry Eulsmann, and I equally remember being turned away from galleries, being told I’m not a real artist.
I remember traveling to so, so many places – me, a homebody, who never thought she’d travel anywhere. I remember closeness I felt in Scotland, the connection in Cambodia, the freedom of riding on the backs of motorcycles in Bali and India. I remember a freezing night in the snow on a mountaintop in Argentina. The days of my first workshops in London, in Berlin, in soaking in the most glorious rain shower in Amsterdam.
I started photography the same year I graduated college, got married, and decided to move away from Pennsylvania. I couldn’t have imagined where life would take me then. I was 21. It was all such a terrifying and exciting mystery. From the tiniest, dirtiest apartment in LA to a house that I love in a small mountain town now, photography has been my guiding light.
It brings me great pleasure to give away a an UltraLight Dual 36L Think Tank bag today as part of my 10 days of giveaways. Comment to win the $200 bag by sharing what has surprised you most from your own journey.
The cage beside the automatic carwash at the BP petrol station, that most likely holds the supplies for the carwash. I focussed on the nearest layer of cyclone fencing.
Earlier this week I visited a local antique shop and found so many cool props, I wanted to buy everything!!! I saw this birdcage and knew I had to do a photo with it :D I'll be using it in some more photos which I'll be sharing soon! The idea behind this comes from feeling caged, I have so many things I want to do but always feel held back for various reasons. Things are starting to change and I'm taking on more jobs and shooting every few days, It's awesome!
"Our hearts are wild creatures, that's why our ribs are cages."

Oh goodness, I wish you could see this one in person, the depth didn't translate back into photo very well! Whitney is a dancer and the grace I hoped to capture seemed effortless for her!
Growing up, the sighting of a butterfly was magical. They were so delicate, free, and always sought out beauty (in the form of flowers). It seemed perfect to have a butterfly represent a heart then. The roses and wings are emerging from a rib cage that has been cut out of the canvas.
