Saguaro cactus in bloom...

(iPhone5, snapseed, scratchcam)

My wife has this Christmas Cactus (so it is called) that has now bloomed with these delightful orange blossoms. This plant gets the afternoon sun on our living room window. Here, it is seen with a few other plants and succulents.

I would not have thought of the desert as colorful but many cacti have colorful blossoms and fruit. It seems something is blossoming or sporting fruit all the time.

I usually never post flower's on my site, but this one grab my eye. I found it in my mother-in law- place in Escondido, California I came upon this Cactus that I have never seen before in bloom. I have never seen a flower so big on a Cactus before.

Beaver tail cactus in bloom. I suspect the property owner encouraged it to bloom by watering it. Like everywhere else in California the desert is experiencing a long term drought. Its mid March and there is no sign of any wild flowers anywhere.

Our day started early. We drove to this park and were able to get a ride on the tram for an overall view.

I couldn't resist taking a photo of the beautiful cacti blossoms.

Thanks for your visits, comments and faves! They are all greatly appreciated!

April 30, 2020 - Macro Close Up of Yellow Epiphyllum Cactus in Bloom!

Prickly Pear cactus in bloom in my garden.

A cactus in bloom is pure poetry.....In the springtime its surface, covered with long, sharp barbs, produces this beautiful flower of waxlike petals smartly trimmed in rouge. Its amazing how anything so prickly and uninviting could produce something as delicate and colorful as this flower.

Amazing that such a fierce looking plant can yield such beautiful flowers. While the Pontotoc Ridge butterflies were nectaring on coneflowers, milkweed and indian blanket, all the other insects were burrowing into the prickly pear cactus blooms. This one just seemed to call out for a little texture treatment for an antique look. Thanks to Lenabem-Anna.

Small cactus growing among rock formation in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument in Southern California. Just one of the many scenes I find on my drive to and from work each day thru the San Jacinto/Santa Rosa mountain range. It's pretty amazing to go from "palms to pines" in only 30 minutes! The sudden change in altitude and terrain creates some crazy weather patterns, which in turn leads to some really cool pho-ops, especially when they include storm light, rainbows and sunsets/sunrises-you just gotta be ready. The weather conditions/clouds/light can change so fast, even in a matter of seconds.

This scene, however, represents one of the calmer , more serene, moments-climbing around these granite formations in search of splashes of color, I discovered this lone cactus, showing off its color, surrounded by its protective fortress of stone.

I shot this with my 200mm lens, with an extender tube so it would work as a macro. This is a Hedgehog Cactus in bloom. After two months of chasing around this ever elusive desert bloom, I am finally giving up and moving on. We had record breaking rainfall in January and February, we had a major downpour every week, and it was supposed to be the best desert bloom ever. Unfortunantly, it was also 10-20 degrees colder than usual, so the bloom that usually starts in the beginning of February, waited till the beginning of March, after not having any rain for a month. I think everything was waiting for that one last big rainfall to really explode, but that never happened. So, now after two months with not a drop of rain, I have watched everything go from brown, to green, and now back to brown. So... After three months of staying put in Mesa, Arizona, this week, I am taking the motorhome up to the Grand Canyon, where I am meeting up with my flickr friends, Jill, and Brian. Moya found the Christmas Cactus in bloom this morning

About an hour after sunset near Kenyon Overlook Trail in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The sky is now dark enough to show some stars, yet there's still enough light to brightly illuminate the landscape in this 25 second exposure.

Peanut Cactus: Echinopsis chamaecereus is a species of cactus from Argentina.

A brilliant orange flower crowns the spiny column of a claret cup cactus, standing out vividly against the dry, rocky ground. Photographed in the desert section of the Denver Botanic Gardens, this cactus—native to the American Southwest—is known for its vibrant, waxy blooms that emerge each spring. The dense cluster of cylindrical stems and sharp spines frames the single blooming flower, highlighting the contrast between toughness and beauty in desert flora.
