Cable car 15 leaves the Barn for its inagural run. The original 15 was built in 1894 and retired a few years ago and would have been painted in the same color scheme used 1894-1902 by the original Market Street Railway Company.
This reminded me of the children being told in school to "Take a line for a walk" as the starting point for a design! Throw-away abstract.
Taking an exhilarating Cable Car ride to the top of Gunung Mat Chinchang, 708m above sea level is an unforgettable experience. The 2.2km journey is full of heart-stopping thrills and its splendours are enhanced by the views across to the coast of southern Thailand and the surrounding islands that a clear day affords.
A remarkable piece of engineering, the Langkawi Cable Car was awarded by The Malaysia Book of Records for ‘the Longest Free Span Single Rope Cable Car - total length of 919.5 meters’ and it is one of the steepest gradients in the world at 42 degrees.
Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the majestic Mat Chinchang Mountain range has been earmarked as one of the sites within the Langkawi Geopark development and it is part of the Mat Chinchang Formation, the oldest rock formation in the country with an age of about 550 million years.

surprisingly it sounds very nice. It is very quiet, warm and tube-like, espeically the vocal, very charming. Again, as I'd said, this kind of sound is very suitable for car audio.

Cable Inglés in Almería. A loading pier where iron ore was tipped from trains into the holds of cargo ships. This remarkable beast, which is currently being renovated, was literally the end of the line for the first electrified railway in Spain (which explains the "Cable" bit). The pier meant that 8,000 ton ships could be loaded in ten hours instead of two weeks.
However, celtic fundamentalists object in the strongest possible terms to the "Inglés" bit; apparently the railway was designed by the Glaswegian John Harrington and built in the equally Scottish town of Motherwell.

Cabled Toddler Socks. Pattern is free from quietish. I knit these in Bulky Valley Berkshire and size 8 needles to get a perfect fit for a 3 year old.

Riding the Cable Car up to the Top Station, I took this shot of the station in the middle. It drizzled earlier and the weather was hot. A moment later, it began to drizzle again. As you ride the cable-car, you can view the virgin jungle below.
