believe it or not this baby blanket will be crocheted with cables. If you look fast at first you won't believe it's crochet. Thought that was a nice quirk, it's gonna be a really slow project though.
This is my progress on the cover pattern from Vogue Knitting, the Cabled Bolero. I bought the yarn from Elann last week; it's Louisa Harding Kashmir Aran. I've always loved this yarn and when it was 4 bucks a ball I couldn't pass it up. I already have 5 pentagons finished. The project is going quickly and it's fun. I've memorized the stitch pattern already so it's going pretty quickly now.
In this picture you can see the stitch markers that I made specifically for this project. They are hematite stars and I love them. The pattern doesn't tell you to use stitch markers but they help me keep the stitch pattern straight. By now I probably don't need them but they are cute so I like seeing them as I go round and round. Speaking of round and round, I converted the pentagons to the round so that I don't have to seam each one up. I cast on 2 less stitches than the pattern calls for to remove the selvedge. Then when I get to the middle of the pentagon I switch to 2 circulars.

Apparently there was a quick storm somewhere in our area. When it was over the picture we got through the cable on our main TV was screwed up. We called Comcast to see what was up. Of all the 17 zip codes they mentioned that were having issues, we weren't one of them. They had no explanation as to why we'd be getting an interrupted signal. They resent the signal and it improved absolutely nothing.
The oddest part is that the other three TV's have no issues at all. To me that means the box has issues, but they keep telling me it is an interruption in the signal. We haven't touched anything and the other three TV's are fine so how could it be the signal? I think that is their standard answer for everything. Kathy is going to switch out the boxes tomorrow and if that doesn't fix it we'll have to wait a week before they can get out to us.
I really hope Verizon gets their cable service out here soon so there will be somebody to compete against them so I can at least threaten to leave them. It is pretty hard to play hard ball with them when you have no leverage.

On a last day of snow, onboard the wooden ferry "Vogel Gryff" in Basel, Switzerland, a sign says "Forbidden to jump up on or off while in motion!"

The three ferries across the Rhine have no motor, they are held by a cable strung from river's bank to bank; the stream's flowing water powers them to the other side.
To cross the river, the ferryman has to maintain the boat around 45° from the current so that it pushes the boat across the river. This form of transportation is totally noise-less and does not pollute as it is completely hydraulically driven, requiring no outside energy source.

Cable car 15 leaves the Barn for its inagural run. The original 15 was built in 1894 and retired a few years ago and would have been painted in the same color scheme used 1894-1902 by the original Market Street Railway Company.
I drilling another hole for the PCI-E connector, and while I was doing that I routed the top panel pinning differently, and they are now even less visible up at the top. This is the cleanest I can go, IMO.
