Eight people died recently when a similar cable car fell into the Indus River in northern Pakistan - the metallic rope it was mounted on snapped. The improvised crossing had been built in 2010 after flood waters destroyed the local bridge.

These socks took forever. I started them in 2007 and finally finished them two year’s later. Not so happy with fabrication, which is loose and spongy. I prefer a tighter fabric, knit on smaller needles. What a difference two years make.

The proposed name had been simply the Dartford Bridge, but Thurrock residents objected and suggested the Tilbury Bridge, leading to a compromise. At the time of opening, it had the longest cable-stayed span of any bridge in Europe. It is the only bridge across the Thames downstream of Central London to be opened since Tower Bridge in 1894.

It's surprisingly simple to connect two male toslink cable ends without a coupler. So long as they're lined up well enough, it works like a charm!
