The icebreaker Ernest Lapointe, a Canadian Coast Guard vessel in service between Montreal and Trois-Rivières from 1940 to 1978.

In 1980, she began a second career at the Musée maritime du Québec. Her presence not only furthers understanding of the functioning of this type of ship but equally of steam-engine navigation. From the engine room to the Officer’s mess via the wheelhouse, its recreated cabins will take you on a trip into the past. L'islet, Quebec, Canada

Post processing photo to art. A cabin I shot in Idaho last year on my way camping in Lava Hot Springs set in the middle of a newly harvested hay field.

This run down old house/cabin is one of several old abandoned structures in my local area that I’m enamored with. This one is fairly challenging to get good photos of due to its position out in a privately owned field, a fair bit from the road. I caught it on this late afternoon just as the sun was about to dip below the horizon behind me. Within a minute of capturing this image, the structure was in complete shadow. I liked the way that low sun played not only off the building but off the Skedaddle Mountains several miles off in the distance. “The Skedaddles” as we know them around these parts, are a small group of mountains, the tallest of which being Hot Springs Peak, in eastern Lassen County (California USA), not too far from the Nevada line. As can be seen, they are rather stark as the area is very much high desert. However, they can have some wonderful texture about them in the right light. By shooting at a fairly long focal length (300+ millimeters), the mountains are somewhat “compressed” to the structure making them appear a bit closer than reality and anchoring the building and mountains for an image.

While hiking the Taylor Creek Trail, in the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park, we passed by the Gustive O. Larson cabin. Larson started building the cabin in the summer of 1930 and homesteaded 160 acres. In 1936, Larson was called on a mission for the LDS Church and served as President of the Swedish Mission. Larson never lived in the cabin again after his departure in 1936.

E908 rolls passed the signals at EM Cabin. After the fail of the 2023 santa train, a mac leader under some nice signals sure made things better.

Sorry but no new nice landscapes from me today - Its been way too hot for the last three days to get out with the camera.

However, there is always something inside worth snapping. So extreme heat outside always attracts wildlife inside - not always welcome either.

This is a jumping spider - blinded somewhat by my flash I suspect. He's tiny - about thumbnail size - so not scary at all.

He wouldn't sit still long enough to get the tripod - so handheld was the best I could do.

There are thousands of jumping spider species and I have no idea which one this is!

We stayed in this cabin on the final night of a 5-day off-road journey through Death Valley. The backcountry of the park is scattered with dozens of cabins that were constructed by miners before the area became a national park. If you can find the cabins, you can stay in them. Many are overrun with rodents, but others are quite nice. The 4wd community maintains the cabins, and most have stores of food and tools in case you become stranded. Each cabin has a logbook, and it is interesting to read the stories of the previous visitors over the years.

This is a stack of 180 1-minute exposures for a total exposure time of about 3 hours. Striped Butte is the unusual striped mountain on the right.

I had a serious case of cabin fever so took a day trip to Minnehaha Falls in North Georgia yesterday. Totally fell in love with the area!

Take a video tour of the historic Peavy Cabin and the surrounding area with Yogi the Dog and I during our visit to the Peavy Cabin in Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, Oregon.

Old Cabin on Cherokee Orchard Road in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. One of the area's less congested attractions!

This old cabin is free for all to use. This is an old custom in the Norwegian mountains. Just remember to leave it as you would like to find it the next time.

Not many scenes have I shot as dim as this one was. Nine minutes standing outside of a cabin, waiting for either a bear or the exposure to finish.

The Museum of wooden architecture in the open air "Malye Karely"

Today the state museum of wooden architecture and folk art of Northern Russia "Small Karelians" areas - in fact the only place where you can plunge into an unforgettable atmosphere of the former North.

The basic idea, which determines the life of the museum - the creation of a spiritual connection between the modern world and the old, the preservation of culture samples of the Russian North, its unique flavor and majestic beauty. Our museum - untouched enclave of old in the middle of a riot of modern trends.

spent the weekend in this tiny log cabin, no electricity, no water. just a bed, table, woodstove and some kitchen tools. would have spent a lot more days in it.

As artist-in-residence, my son stayed in the Dassler Cabin. It has some lovely views.

The National Park Service uses several historic cottages to house volunteers and some other kinds of visitors. Weirdly, these residences lie in a federal wilderness area.

I wouldn't mind to spend some time there. It looks very cozy. And the view!
