The Sun just popped over a hill and cast this beautiful golden light on the scene as I was driving past.

I quickly caught the shot and then went to set up my tripod for a better shot as this was a good distance away. By the time I got the tripod open, the light was gone. So the first handheld shot was the keeper.

Taken in Iceland I thought I would create the perfect get away from Civilization. Two image's from the same place, but we move the cabin into a different spot has the views were much better.

The mountain range in the background contains the volcano Seljahjallagi.

I named it the Dogwood cabin because the dogwood trees framed it beautifully. A terrific early American split-rail fence covered with lichen. One of the cabins in Cades Cove/Smoky Mtn NP.

Happy Fence Friday -- and have a great weekend too!

Auch diese Hütte gehört zu einem der vielen Bauten des Wildgartens, die nur aus Naturmaterialien hergestellt wurden.

This hut also belongs to one of the many buildings of the wild garden, which were only made of natural materials.

This is the former home of the Louis Myers family. It was built in the early 1880s and lived in until 1948. The Myers family used to farm this land until it later became part of the refuge. The cabin was later restored by a volunteer support group.

...got the winter blues...(not my cabin)

The Spirit of Tasmania II sails overnight every day of year and during the summer months it does daylight sails as well. This is a shot of a standard two berth cabin.

I liked this shot for several reasons. Firstly, the symmetry. Secondly, the light coming into the cabin and the way it breaks that symmetry by washing over one of the beds and the table. And the third reason was the challenge of testing the dynamic range abilities of my camera.

The D850 has an outstanding dynamic range and I was confident I would capture on my RAW files enough information so that the bright porthole light would not be blown out against the darker cabin interior. If I were to use a tripod (not a good idea on board ship) I'd take a bracket of perhaps 5 shots and blend them later to produce the desired result.

The John Oliver Cabin was constructed in the early 1820’s by John Oliver and his wife Lucretia. The Oliver's were the first permanent white settlers of Cades Cove, which is now part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

While visiting Yellowstone National Park we hiked several miles to the cabin at Cabin Creek. The cabin was constructed during the 1930's and somehow has survived wildfires in the area. The windows were barred and the doors padlocked.

Happy Window Wednesday!
