Since the holiday in Australia, we've been naturally keeping an eye out for Margaret River wine back in the UK, and the only place so far with any has been Tesco. Picked up three bottles, this, the Mad Bay below and an £11 Chardonnay that was nothing special. This was by far the best of the three and showed the same depth that was so enjoyable in the ones we had before.

First off: hot chocolate is not some cocoa powder with sugar in warm milk.
There are many good recipes for hot chocolate. Ingredients such as vanilla extract, cocoa powder, sugar, heavy cream, and chocolate, (like in a candy bar,) are included. Pick one that suits your fancy.
For the last decade or so the combination of red wine in hot chocolate has been charging to the fore around the holidays. It's a festive libation that will surprise your palate with it's sumptuous flavors and lingering delights in your mouth.
We prefer a Cabernet Sauvignon with legs and more than a bit of pepper. When we splurge a 20 year old Port works wonders. It goes good in a thermos for a cold day on the river. It's O.K. cold but not the best.
The mix is up to you. Make your hot chocolate and add the red wine to taste. It will rapidly become a favorite.

I'm finally back from points east (MI, IL, and NYC) and catching up on posting all of my 365 pictures. Here is my shot from New Years Eve. We had to catch a plane the next morning, so we had a low key evening hanging out with Dan and Carmen. They made dinner and dessert, and we brought down a bottle of our fancy wine club wine from Kuleto: 2005 India Ink Cabernet Sauvignon. It was very good.

Excellent wine!
I bought this years ago in Florida for around US$20. Current vintages now sell for CDN$95 in Toronto. Very limited release.
This is our wedding wine. We purchased five bottles total. We had the first bottle at our wedding reception. We will open the remaining bottles on our aniversaries.

Fragrant, showing cascades of violets, caramelized new oak, sweet cherry pie, cocoa and cassis aromas. In the mouth, it’s unctuous, and floods the palate with sweet, savory flavors. Has a youthful jamminess right now, which will melt off and refine as time goes by. Such is the elegance and balance that cellaring it for 20 years will be no problem. This is the best Rubicon ever. — S.H. (9/1/2006)

Combines richness with elegance and grace, offering up loamy currant, dried berry, tobacco, sage and a dash of herb that takes on a supple earthiness reminiscent of Pessac-Léognan. For those who seek a Bordeaux expression from Napa Valley, this is a good candidate. Best from 2007 through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 5,296 cases made. –JL
