I came across this photo in a folder from last year. Decided I liked this crop better than what I had previous uploaded eighteen months ago. I hear that this signal is not long for this world, in fact it may very well already be scrap. That's sad. Sandcut is a magical spot, though, and no trip to Tehachapi is complete without spending a few hours here.

Trey Ratcliff - StuckInCustomYesterday I visited the amazing Ca' d' Zan here in Sarasota. I had seen a few photos of it online, but it was even more impressive in-person. After taking a tour of the inside and getting some photos, I went outside to catch the sunset. This is the place I mentioned I was going to yesterday's FB live video. Also, I recorded the sunset shooting in 360 so I could try to explain what I was doing. I took photos from about 8 different locations around here, but I think this is my favorite one. #rcmemories #Sarasota s.com - Creative Commons Noncommercial contact licensing@stuckincustoms.com

This "wigwag" crossing signal guards the BNSF Railway's Harbor Subdivision crossing of 49th Street in Vernon, California, just south of Los Angeles. LA was my last stop in the U.S. before spending the next twenty-one months in Asia. Steve Crise, a well-known photographer in the area, showed me some of his favorite places before taking me to the airport that night. Ten years later, this signal remains in service--unlike many of the railroad facilities I would see in China over the next three months.
