scratch the MKii off the list of toys. i waited for months for it but once in my mitts it caused me more problems than it did bring me joy. it is gone.
never thought i'd complain about file sizes being too big, but here i go. shooting at 22mp is ridiculous and sRAW is only 10mp, smaller than the MKI.. sooo. yeah. don't know what to say about that. when the 16 gig CF cards quarter in price and 2TB drives are more widely available and halve in price, that problem will be fixed.
i have serious concerns about the AF. i'm going to leave it at that.
my biggest issue.. they moved some of the ##@ing buttons. yes yes, we can all learn new tricks, but i can't when i have two different model cameras that i use interchangeably, and especially when one of them i operate without thinking. on the MKII, they moved the delete button to where the play button was. ruh-roh. to me this is a fireable offense for any engineer. at least they had the foresight to get rid of the "erase all?" option so the worst you can do is delete the one photo you had hoped to quickly chimp. ok, so they had to move the delete button to accommodate the larger screen, but still, couldn't they have kept the play button at the bottom?? seriously stupid and engineered either by someone who is not a photographer, or a photographer who knows damn well what is likely to happen and is trying to push everyone into this frustration in hopes of getting us all to buy multiple mkii's.
they moved the AV and ISO control from the back wheel to the top dial. makes sense.. finally.. no more stupid on/hash mark and rear dial. took me a few days to get used to this despite the fact it's how it should have been in the first place. so okay, yay, got used to it. BUT. they also added a button to the top function buttons, moving the existing three over one. not a huge deal.. except now that i'm all used to the MKII iso up top, when I go back to the MKI and change the aperture or ISO, I like to accidentally hit the drive mode button as it is now where the button is on the MKii. i did it three times already and put the camera in self timer mode. guess what happens when you're in self timer mode? you don't take a pic for like 10 seconds or longer as you're like "WTF is my camera not firing?"- either way, just enough for most of the bridal party to pass you by during a recessional. sweet. can't have that.
so.. until i can afford three of these things, or somehow become smarter, i prefer to have none. at least that's my stance for now. i'll forgo shooting at ISO 5,000,000 and be content with my 1.2 goodness.
i sold it to some guy off of CL in under an hour. i traded him for another MKI which he barely used. he had no clue about ISO or HD video or really why anyone would want this camera, other than every one does, and now he'll be the first dad in the culdesac to have one, so he's happy. i'm happy. we all win, right?
The border between Ghana and Burkina Faso. This is most friendly land border that I have crossed. Felt good for weeks.
She was the first to go.
We took all 4 baby bulldogs to their new homes. The feeling is of utter emptiness, but we're very happy that they will live with people who love them and will take very good care of them.
