my cousin is crate-training her dog, so I was looking for encouraging pictures of Buzz enjoying his crate. Jeez he's tiny here.

BUZZ LIGHTYEAR some help over here PLEASE !

In summary, this is a very disappointing offering.

It seems to be the bastard child of three different services -- Twitter, Gmail, and FriendFeed.

Mistake #1:

From email it gets the idea that there are "unread" buzzes -- a terrible idea for the many on Twitter who follow hundreds of people and dip in and out without reading them all. This ever-growing number will serve merely to irritate infovores.

Mistake #2:

From FriendFeed it gets the idea of integrating with multiple services. You can pull in your blog, Twitter, Picasa, YouTube, and a few more (but not Facebook). This turns it from "share what you're thinking" (as the UI prompts) to "share what you're doing" which is much less interesting, and dilutes the value of the stream significantly.

Mistake #3:

Who the fuck let these visuals out the door? The percentage of the screen that is actual, useful content is tiny. Each line of stream is surrounded by at least:

- profile picture

- name

- source

- public/private

- time

- comment button

- *another* comment button

- "like" button

- email link

Plus online status, for other Buzz users.

Compare to Twitter, which displays:

- profile picture

- name

And all other UI is contextual on mouseover.

Instead of simplifying the UI, they've dealt with the excess of cruft by adding whitespace, which means that you can only fit 4 "buzzes" on the screen at a time.

Conclusion: Google, you're Doing It Wrong.

[NB: to those featured in the screenshot, I have left you public if your activity was public to begin with and obscured you if not. If you would like to be further obscured let me know.]

This was a cool ride - you sit in the cars and use the laser guns to shoot Zurg targets [anything with a flashing "Z"]. You can also spin the cars to aim at your targets better, kinda like the teacup ride. I scored 97,000 points to Kirsten's 13,000. We were both level 3 though; 3,001 more points and i would have been level 4...ah well. :)

I loved the effect of the ivy flower in the background, caught in movement - quite surreal.... Not sure I'd 'managed' to capture something like that before!!

To Infinity... and Beyond

My assignment for the night was fancy dress. I did it Steve. My flash was not within easy reach at the time, so I had to bump up the ISO. That's why it's so grainy...

Buzz takes some time off.

Just messing around with DxO and some files from my cell phone. This is on my desk at work.

I upped the exposure, fixed the white balance and upped the vibrance and contrast.

This Buzz Lightyear Toy Story theme cake was created for Jordan who was turning 4 years old. I have seen the design elements from other bakers but don't recall their names to give proper credit. The Buzz Lighyear was made from modeling chocolate and gumpaste.

I got to ride Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters only once, and 40,900 was my score on the ride.
