This striking blue and orange button down shirt was made by Patricia, one of the artisans at Amani Liberia. It's made of kitenge, a popular fabric in Liberia, and has a appliqué on the back of a bird. It's sized for ages 2 to 5.
Amani means peace, which describes the community of tailors and seamstresses who work together at the Amani Liberia center. Their faith in God enables them to accept and love one another regardless of their ethnic backgrounds. It's available only at our DC boutique (amanidc.org)
Thank you for your support of peace that transcends!
dConstruct are running a button mashup competition.
See this one first...
... and I ended up doing this on my floor.
See? It is continuous now. Oh yes.
Lovely feature button - handmade from stoneware clay and decorated with a floral detail. The glaze is actually 'dusky blue' but I've described it as 'oatmeal' since the blue is so subtle!
Measures about 35mm x 35mm.
Mother of pearl layered button necklace. Stunning blue and white ceramic beads are used to house the mushroom buttons on top! Lots of layers and depth.
Denim blue beads wrap around your neck.
this is the first time I put a buttonhole on the back pocket. I like it very much... anothe way to make use of these suitcoat buttons that seem to be multiplying in my brown button jar.
An inside view of the top (at left) and back. The ribs, end blocks and corner blocks will remain glued to the top.
This is the button I have to ware in the court house while being a juror. It a sign to everyone not to talk to me. Not even a "Hello."
As I was having a whole 'lotta' fun sewing the other day I somehow found myself sorting through my buttons. Now you should understand that button sorting is a favourite pastime of mine and I need no excuses. It gives me immense pleasure to sort them into their individual jewel like colours, their various shapes, sizes, whether they have two holes or four....... Maybe it's because I'm a control freak or possibly that sometimes I'm a Teaching Assistant- buttons are an excellent educational tool as well you know!
This is me stepping well out of my comfort-zone. I normally avoid button down shirts like the plague. As a large busted lady they are always a mine-field.
You either gape over the chest, or its huge and you swim in it, never flattering.
This one fits me nicely and doesn't gape as the fabric has a slight stretch. Also its slightly see-through so you can see my shape through it. Plus the little tie feature distracts in case any gape-age may occur.
(this picture does make it look like it gapes over my belly but its just my hands on my waist... honest... *shifty eyes*)

Macro of an new brass button and an old antique button in the background both are Canadian military tunic buttons.
Wisteria the fairy.
A swap button fairy I made I gave it to Paperpassion.
Medium- mixed. (Color ink, glass bead, clear glass rock, buttons, wire, silver paper, and paper. )
Just had my Eureka moment. Thru-hole components slide perfectly down the peg center once conductive thread has been added!
Now that I have something that works, I wonder if I can defray some of the costs through the Shapeways store thing.?.
