Barred Button Quail (Turnix suscitator) is a buttonquail, one of a small family of birds which resemble, but are unrelated to, the true quails. Found in most habitats except dense forest and desert. Feeds on insects and seeds, and is reluctant to fly. The female is polyandrous. The female is the brighter of the sexes, initiates courtship and builds the ground nest. Eggs are incubated by the male who also tends the young, which can run as soon as they are hatched. The hen goes off to acquire another husband, Captured at Yala National Park, Sri Lanka

I've seen this little guy and his mother and twin sister quite a few times this season. They are quite tolerant of photographers and other park visitors. He was feeding on the vegetation in a dried up pond - hopefully the storm forecast for tonight will help fill the ponds again.

For the Hero Arts 'Manweek' challenge. Thought I'd do a layout - it's been too long. :)
This is about my oldest son and his strong dislike of 'button' shirts'.
Journaling reads: "Sometimes between the ages of 2 and 3 you decided you didn't like 'button shirts.' At 6 1/2 years of age this still hasn't changed.. I'm not quite sure what it is exactly you don't like about them. I try and compromise, buying polo shirts instead of full-fledged dress shirts for church, but even getting you to wear those is a struggle. I do know that when I can get you to wear one you look mighty fine. :)

I was reading On The Banks Of Plum Creek the other night and came across this passage. I recognized some of the buttons mentioned there, in my own collection.
The book was written in 1937 about Laura's childhood in the 1800s.

A 1980s replica showing native art and how it would be used for everyday objects like this blanket. The design is a raven - a bird much venerated in Native societies
My pretty trinity of vintage 2nd generation Liccas. ^o^
You can see the subtle and not so subtle differences between the headmolds and face designs as Licca's looks evolved within the generation. They're all 2nd gen Liccas (1972 - 1980) but don't look the same. The one on the right is closest to 3rd gen Licca.
They're named (left to right): Appley, Glass and Mopsy. Glass and Mopsy have had their hair fixed and looks refreshed and restored by the Japanese customizer Osharebox (Mikiko). ♥
The middle dress is by Button Arcade, the rest of the clothes are Licca Castle and playline Licca coordinates you can buy separately for mixing and matching. Love the pink top + stripey t-shirt combo, the two are sewn together like that as one piece and look very nice with all kinds of summer bottoms.
I'm not sure, but I think this is another button buck? I was walking on the delta boardwalk and spotted him and mom, he was very curious about me, he came within fifteen yards of me, I think he would have come closer, but a runner came by and scared him back to mom, love my deer.
I made these cute button cards today. Connie & I spent the day making cute miniatures for your own girls sewing adventures :-)
