Finally feeling like winter

High of 26 F (-3C)

On my (surprisingly chilly) ride today I stopped at snake heaven to see if I could spot the first tanager of the season. Spring birds are arriving but the weather has been unseasonably cool. It has been very rainy, which is not that unusual, but the lows have often been in the 30s, which is pretty odd for May. I didn't see any tanagers, so as I often do, I ended up taking pictures of the snakes, which were trying to squeeze some warmth out of the sun between passing clouds. Note (11:00AM): It is hailing hard (!)

These are hanging from the rafters in the flower shed at Wright-Locke Farm. After they finish drying, some will be used in arrangements, and others will be sold to a local florist. This image is a 50-frame focus stack, blended with Helicon Focus. I set the camera to take 100 frames, but only used 50, to keep the other bundle a bit blurry.

And finally the fourth of four cutties

Well no, he really doesn't look to happy to be here. This is a "snow day", for the railroad, that is. That means more work to do for the same amount of pay. Although the crew of this Gangs Mills local is working hard to get sand cars into Corning Glass, they must be a bit happy they are not to the west a few miles where over 36 inches of snow dumped in less than 3 days. The amount they are dealing with Corning, NY is a walk in the park.

1 of four cuties , a new addition to the family!

A guy in late afternoon carries his little bundle of joy in his loving and caring arms and takes her for a stroll along uncrowded village inner streets near their residence.

I have learned later that this four-month-old infant girl is the fourth and youngest child of his daughter.

Fog and rain and a roaring run just southwest of Steam Furnace, Ohio. Captured on the east side of the Quiverheart Falls Trail about an eight of a mile below the waterfall.

I bought these hoping that they would add some color to my cold and white February days :) So fragrant...

For the most part, it was a chilly and gray day, but for a very brief moment this afternoon, the sun found it's way out of the clouds and shined down on the dried plants in my neighbours garden.

Being a bit of an opportunist, I grabbed the camera and started shooting, figuring it would be my only burst of warm and natural light of the day.

I was right and it stayed gray for the rest of the day.

I guess winter might actually be on it's way...

Hope everyone has had a good day.

My errands took me out near Mer Bleue yesterday and despite the angry wind, I couldn't resist stopping in to see who was out and about.

Mostly chickadees, a few red squirrels, and a couple blue jays who trying to play shy by hiding in the branches.

I found a little nook not too far from the action and with a bit of shelter from the wind I was able to hang out for a bit.

Luckily for me, this guy perched in a pretty great location for my lens and I was quickly able to snap a shot for the day.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

the third of four cute kitties!

the second of four cute kitties that were just born a week ago

These are thick, layered bundles of paper. each layer is a picture, drawing, collage or interesting peice of paper, but they are layered up ridiculously thick so there are hundreds of unviewable peices all on top of each other, like a book you cannot open. Secret layers that make up a whole, just like a person. notes, peices of wire, moths, leather bindings from books, scraps of lace I found in a skip, paper from my childhood or ruined books or sealing wax and wooden blocks. 42 were made in total, and most were datestamped. all are exactly 2 inches by 3 inches, some are very thick, some not so.

My wife bundled up at the Port Union Winterfest yesterday. Although it wasn't that cold, you did have to bundle up from the wind. A rare portrait shot to add to my photostream.
