Harbour wall, Castlehill Harbour, Caithness flagstone laid onto bedrock, the outer wall section faced with flags placed on edge, construction started in 1818, so these walls have survived the surf in Dunnet Bay for some 200 years.

Built in 1838 following a series of shipwrecks, the Cape Bruny Lighthouse on the Southern tip of Bruny Island, Tasmania is no longer active.
the outer hull is mostly finished, just got the rivets to do, (ordered 1mm ball bearings)
the paint work will be for the Legio Fureans (tiger eyes). orange/yellow hull with black flame design on top. my two titan i will re-paint the mars warhound now!

BUILT IN 1763 BY THE MERSEY DOCKS AND HARBOUR BOARD, LEASOWE LIGHTHOUSE IS THE OLDEST BRICK BUILT LIGHTHOUSE IN BRITAIN. TWO LIGHTHOUSES WERE ERECTED ON THE COAST OF LEASOWE IN 1763 A 'LOWER LIGHT' ON THE SHORE AND AN 'UPPER LIGHT' ON THE SITE OF THE PRESENT BUILDING ON LEASOWE COMMON. THE THEORY WAS THAT THE APPROACHING SHIPS HAD ONLY TO LINE UP THE TWO LIGHTS TO ACHIEVE A SAFE ENTRANCE TO THE ROCK CHANNEL & PORT OF LIVERPOOL, BUT LOWER LIGHT COLLAPSED WITHIN JUST A FEW YEARS OF BEING BUILT, DUE TO STORM DAMAGE.
WHEN THE LOWER LIGHTHOUSE AT MOCKBEGGAR WHARF COLLAPSED INTO THE SEA IN 1769, INSTEAD OF BUILDING ANOTHER LIGHTHOUSE IN THE SAME PLACE (AND RISK IT BEING WASHED AWAY), IT WAS DECIDED TO BUILD A NEW LIGHTHOUSE FURTHER BACK IN THE SAME ALIGNMENT. BIDSTON HILL PROVIDED THE RIGHT LOCATION. BEING IN LINE WITH THE HORSE CHANNEL AND THE REMAINING MOCKBEGGAR LIGHT AT LEASOWE, A NEW LIGHTHOUSE BY THE SIGNALS STATION COULD TAKE OVER AS THE REAR SEA LIGHT. ITS ELEVATED SITUATION MEANT THAT A SMALLER, AND CHEAPER, TOWER COULD BE BUILT, AWAY FROM THE RAVAGES OF THE SEA. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, HUTCHINSON’S INVENTION MEANT THAT THE LIGHT WOULD BE VISIBLE AT A DISTANCE OF 21 MILES.
THERE ARE SEVEN FLOORS IN LEASOWE LIGHTHOUSE, WHICH CAN BE REACHED BY A CAST IRON SPIRAL STAIRCASE OF 130 STEPS. LEASOWE LIGHTHOUSE STANDS ONE HUNDRED AND ONE FEET (27 METRES) TALL ON LEASOWE COMMON IN THE WIRRAL.
NOW A SITE OF PUBLIC INTEREST, THE LIGHTHOUSE FEATURES GUIDED TOURS, SPECIAL EVENTS AND A VISITOR CENTRE WITH DISPLAYS ABOUT LEASOWE LIGHTHOUSE.THE LIGHTHOUSE IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH THROUGHOUT THE WINTER, AND IN THE SUMMER IT IS OPEN ON THE FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAYS, 1PM UNTIL 4PM.TEL: 0151 648 4371.
Built in 1954, this building was demolished in 2006. A new school then built on this site with modern facilities.
Eurotunnel Shuttle, Brush built electric locomotive 9827, Folkestone (Cheriton) Eurotunnel Shuttle Terminal. Tuesday 24 September 2019.
The view is taken from inside our train. If you walk on to the platform you will probably be shot!
60 of these shuttle locomotives were built and they are very difficult to see. Apart from the two departure terminals the best opportunity to view them is as you leave the tunnel in France and approach the Coquelles Shuttle Terminal as there are usually a few of the locos at the depot on the left hand side.
Of the 59 locomotives built one has been scrapped 9030 and at least one is stored this being 9817, I have not seen these two locos.
On my visit i 2019 I saw twelve locos on the way to France and a further eight locos on my return journey of which seven were different ones than the ones seen on my outward journey. I still require 15 of the locos.
It is virtually impossible to get both locomotive numbers of the train you travel on. This time I was lucky as on our return journey the train was in the platform nearest the exit road from the terminal at Folkestone. In France it no longer possible due to the vast amount of additional high security fencing that has been erected in order to keep people out. These were my 2019 loco haulages: Outward journey front loco 9005, rear loco unknown; return journey front loco 9011 and rear loco 9029.
I have now travelled on the Eurotunnel shuttle five times (2006, 2008, 2010, 2017 and 2019) and by Eurostar six times (1995, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2009 and 2014) making a total of 22 journeys through the tunnel.

The Skeenah Mill was built in 1848 by Willis Rabun Woody. In 1838 he moved his family to this beautiful valley known to the Tsalagi (Cherokee) Indians as Skeenah, meaning Big Bear.

This building - originally a car dealership - contains a number of small businesses. Many of them don't last very long. At the time this photo was taken, the biggest ofthe shops (on the left) was vacant.
This is one of the buildings city planners consider demolishing to establish a new, and more active environment in the area.
From a registrant photowalk series made for the local historical society. The purpose of these walks is not to take photos of individual buildings, but rather to document the streets as a whole in order to preserve the views for future generations.
Some houses will inevitably be obscured behind fences and hedges. In such cases, there will be a photo of the hedge or fence in question. The photo will, of course, be rubbish, but it will accurately show the best possible view from a public road. Over the years, fences and hedges will come and go (as will the houses), sometimes improving the views, other times, the opposite. Also, in some cases, there's a choice between a (reasonably) unobstructed view, but poor lighting conditions, or a severely obstructed view, but better lighting.
I respect people's privacy and generally use the following guidelines...
I blur: license plates of private vehicles parked by private (1- or 2-family) homes, legible names on mailboxes, recognizable faces in fore- or middleground of a photo. I do NOT blur: license plates of commercial vehicles, license plates of private vehicles in traffic (unless in very prominent position), license plates of parked private vehicles by apartment buildings and shops, faces in the background of a photo. For the same reasons, some photos will be downloadable, others not... download (generally) enabled for: public buildings, generic views (streets, nature, events etc.), apartment buildings. Download disabled for: private homes (1- or 2-family), photos of special importance to me.

Built in 1741 by order of Sultan Mahmut I, the CAĞALOĞLU HAMAMI is undoubtedly the most beautiful of the city’s hamams, listed by the Guardian as 1 of the 1000 places to see in your life before you die. And it’s true, i can tell you! I had the luck to be invited by the owner to take some pictures so i was free to move in the Hammam with my fuji X-E1 and a tripod, trying to get the best out of it and to catch the magic that this place still has.
