Built in 1861-2 to a design by G.F. Bodley, the interior is quite plain, giving the stained-glass windows greater impact. The first full commission for the William Morris & Co brotherhood, there are contributions from Morris himself, Edward Burne-Jones, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and Philip Webb. At the east end is a rounded apse.
Built for the ABS builder challenge Season 2 Finale. with the Flat Silver Goblet as the seed part. It's shaping up to be quite a show, go check it out!
Sugguestions and critique welcome.
Built by William Lockyer, its style influenced by Second Empire design, the Parish Hall is a two-storey hip-roofed building with attached tower. Constructed between 1898 and 1905, it is one of the best preserved examples of a rural parish hall utilizing ornate design elements. The building's most remarkable feature is the tower on the front facade. It stands two full storeys and is topped by a decorative cupola. The hipped roof and symmetrical lines on the exterior facade give a sense of orderliness to the structure.

Well not quite ;-)
The light was pretty dramatic that day - dark clouds on this side and blue skies on the other side. In the end, the good weather won that day...

Built in 1892, this is one of many renovated and restored homes in the Springfield's Enos Park neighborhood.
I spent the better part of a day in Saguaro National Park's Tucson Mountain District visiting as many sites constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps as I could. While the idea was to photograph architectural rather than landscape forms, inevitably the two sometimes met.
Here's one of those instances. In the lower-center is the original restroom building in the Ez-Kim-In-Zim picnic area. The CCC built it in the 1930s, decades before the area became part of Saguaro National Monument (it was in the recently-created Tucson Mountain Park at the time) and it's probably older than most (if not all) of the saguaros seen here. These restrooms are now closed (they'd be hard to reach if you were in immediate need) but nearby picnic tables and shelters are still in use.
Built in 1926, the Golden State Theatre, a 15,000 square-foot live performance venue, is located in the heart of Old Monterey. Recently restored, it features an Old World grand lobby and mezzanine, one thousand plush velvet seats, state-of-the-art sound, and the indefinable magic of a truly historic setting.
The Beach Boys, Jay Leno, Tracy Morgan, and Mary Chapin Carpenter — these are just some of the names that have recently graced the stage, contributing to the Theatre's new legacy since its renovation and exciting revival. Attend a world-class concert or film festival at the Golden State Theatre or host your own special event here and become part of its new chapter of history.
Built in 1799, Hawa Mahal (also known as the Palace of Winds) is essentially a high screen wall built so the women of the royal household could observe street festivals without being seen from the outside. Constructed of red and pink sandstone, it was designed in the form of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god. Its unique five-storey exterior is similar to the honeycomb of a beehive with 953 small windows called jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework. The lattice also allows cool air from the Venturi effect through the intricate pattern, air conditioning the whole area during the high temperatures of summer. This shot was pretty challenging to pull off as I had to work very low in order to get the angle I wanted, and even though I got there early, I had to wait a while for the soft morning light to illuminate the entire façade.

EN:
This magnificent building built in 1925 was the residence of a couple with a particular history. An injured World War I soldier was hospitalized in England and reportedly met his future wife, the widow of a wealthy governor. After marrying in Brussels, they built this castle in a Belgian village, with architecture inspired by many trips made by the aristocratic wife. The building has many rich architectural characteristics, with oriental, Art Deco and chinese inspirations. Some receptions were organized for the village inhabitants, and the owner was a time elected alderman of the community.
Both died in 1940, and the castle was bought in 1988 by a wealthy entrepreneur and his wife. As the building was too big for the two of them, they saw the opportunity to turn the space into a luxury hotel, then into a bed and breakfast, before being abandoned, presumably after the couple's death.
Today, this superb place is abandoned and at the mercy of squatters and vandals of the region. One part of the building was recently the target of a fire, in March 2017. Today, the site could be transformed into a nursing home and/or apartment buildings. These photos were taken before the fire.

Market hall, 1936, to the designs of the Horseley Bridge Engineering Company, incorporating the walls of the 1932 open-air market.
Reasons for Designation
The former Woolwich Market, 1936, is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
Architectural interest:
* the roof is a good representation of the Lamella system, built at a scale which clearly demonstrates the structural capability, is unaltered, and is the earliest known surviving example;
* based on a simple but visually distinctive geometric structural system which creates a striking, uninterrupted interior.
Historic interest:
* a rare survival of a dwindling number of Lamella structures in England, of which over 100 were built during the interwar period and only 16 of which are thought to remain.
History
A market was opened on the site on Plumstead Road in 1932, necessitated by overcrowding of the earlier marketplace on Beresford Square, c50m to the west. Four years later the new market was enclosed by a lightweight steel structure with a Lamella roof; construction took three months and cost £2,268, and the new, covered market was reopened on 18 September 1936.
The Lamella system was developed in Germany in the 1920s. It uses short structural members in an interlocking lattice grid to create a shallowly arching structure which could achieve wide, uninterrupted spans. The Horseley Bridge Engineering Company of Tipton acquired the license to use the system in England in 1929, and in the following decade designed and built over 100 structures incorporating Lamella roofs. One of the principal applications of the system was in the construction of aircraft hangars, and the first commission, in 1930, was for Henleys Ltd at Heston Airfield. The Air Ministry commissioned their first hangars at Usworth, near Newcastle upon Tyne in 1932, and in 1936 placed an order for 22 hangars to be built at their stations at Ternhill, Shawbury, Brize Norton and Kemble; of these, a number survive, and the group of four at Kemble are listed, as is the Lamella hangar at Liverpool airport. Lamella roofing was by no means limited to hangars, however, and in his ‘short history’, Allen notes various industrial buildings, garages, a school, and power plant which incorporate the structural system. Lamella roofs were used much less frequently following a couple of collapses in the 1940s, due to the unforeseen weight of snow, and faults in assembly. One notable example of later use was on the Sea and Ships Pavilion at the Festival of Britain in 1951.
Woolwich Covered Market is the earliest known example of a Lamella roof to survive in England. The building ceased use as a market in 2017, and has been converted to a multi-venue food hall. The structure remains largely intact.
There are purported to be subterranean passages beneath the market, used as air-raid shelters during the Second World War.

Market hall, 1936, to the designs of the Horseley Bridge Engineering Company, incorporating the walls of the 1932 open-air market.
STRUCTURE and MATERIALS: a steel-framed, segmental-arch roof supported on steel stanchions encased in concrete and brick. The roof is clad in corrugated sheeting and glazing. The walls of the 1932 open-air market are built in London stock brick and have limestone dressings.
PLAN: the market stands on the south side of Plumstead Road. The building is rectangular in plan, with a span of 29, and c35m long.
EXTERIOR: the principal elevation of the building faces north onto Plumstead Road. The dominant feature is its deep projecting fascia of white boarding with ‘PUBLIC MARKET’ inscribed in applied lettering. The elevation is divided into three sections by wide tiled stanchions; the outer bays have concertina shutters, and the central section is fully glazed, with multiple windows in replacement metal frames. The roof, clad in corrugated sheeting, recedes in a gentle arc, and has strips of glazing and a pitched lantern along the apex.
The building abuts other structures at either end, and its glazed gables rise above to the rear. On the rear elevation are a number of brick ancillary structures related to the 1932 market, with a pitched entrance leading into the main market hall.
INTERIOR: internally the main market hall is a single, open-plan space, and the principal feature is the roof structure. The steel framework is exposed; it consists of short channel-section members – Lamellae – bolted together in pairs to form a diamond lattice, braced with narrow purlins and tie rods. Mechanical and electrical services are attached to the framework, and there are metal domed light fittings. The segmental-arched gable ends are fully glazed with multiple lights in metal frames.
The roof is supported on steel warren trusses; that on the southern side is glazed, and is supported on brick piers, and on the north side, the truss is supported by four concrete stanchions. The brick wall of the original open-air market of 1932 stands detached from the piers on the south side, forming a narrow aisle beneath a lean-to roof. The walls contain two doorways with limestone architraves with circular mouldings at the corners and inscribed date-stones. They retain sliding timber doors.
Built between 1856 and 1865, this opulent Italianate-style house with Greek Revival elements was constructed by prominent local Irish-born contractor Patrick O'Donnell (1806-1882). Starting in 1907, the house was the home of Josephine Pinckney (1895-1957), whom lived here until 1937. The house was bought by the Preservation Society of Charleston in 1987, with the intention of converting it into a museum and their offices, a plan which was ultimately dropped due to opposition from neighbors. The house has since undergone a thorough, period-correct restoration.
built everything, well photographically at least. Great place with excellent cafe and visitors centre. This place is another reserved world of natural wonders nestled in amongst our modern pressures of life and living that often overlooks wildlife and the chance to be calmer and closer to land and water and to those that never left the cycle of seasonal lifestyle.

The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club, Autograph Collection is an historic Mediterranean Revival-style hotel opened in 1925 as the Vinoy Park Hotel. It is located in St. Petersburg, Florida at 501 Fifth Avenue Northeast, on the bayfront area of downtown, overlooking the Vinoy Yacht Basin. The hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Vinoy Park Hotel was built in 1925 by oil tycoon Aymer Vinoy Laughner. Construction began on February 5 and took 10 months to complete, with a grand opening on December 31. It was a seasonal hotel, open from around December to March. Rates were $20.00 a night, the highest in the area at that time. Celebrities ranging from Babe Ruth, Herbert Hoover, Calvin Coolidge and James Stewart are known to have stayed there.
With the onset of World War II, the hotel closed on July 3, 1942, and was taken over by the U.S. Army for use as a training school. The hotel reopened in December 1944. It was then sold in 1945 to Charles Alberding for $700,000. It continued to prosper for the next couple of decades but fell out of favor and into decline and disrepair by the end of the 1960s. In 1974, the Vinoy Park closed and most of its contents were sold at auction. On September 11, 1978, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
The hotel sat vacant until 1990, when it was bought by the Vinoy Development Corporation, which renovated it at a cost of $93 million. The hotel reopened in 1992 as the Stouffer Vinoy Resort. Stouffer Hotels was bought by Renaissance Hotels the following year, and the hotel became the Renaissance Stouffer Vinoy Resort, and then in 1996 the Renaissance Vinoy Resort.
In 2005, the Vinoy earned AAA Four-Diamond status.
On April 18, 2012, the AIA's Florida Chapter placed it on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places.
In August 2018, the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club was sold by RLJ Lodging Trust to SCG Hospitality, owned by Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ owner Bryan Glazer. The sale included a golf club and 74-slip marina as well as the 362-room hotel. The amount of the sale was reported to be $188.5 million. The hotel left the Renaissance brand of Marriott and joined the Autograph Collection brand as The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club, Autograph Collection in April 2023, at the conclusion of major renovations.

The Pritchard House is a historic house in Titusville, Florida, United States. It is located at 424 South Washington Avenue. On January 12, 1990, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The house is owned by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners and operated by the North Brevard Heritage Foundation.
James Pritchard was born in New York City in 1839. He served in the Confederacy and met his wife Mary Haley Boye in December 1866. After inheriting land from Mary's grandfather, the couple moved to an area near what "became Indian River City but was then known as Pritchard's Landing". After initially growing sugarcane and citrus, Captain Pritchard became involved in the real estate business. In 1888, Pritchard organized the Indian River State bank and served as its president. In 1891, contractor Pleasant J. Hall began building the Pritchard's new home located on Washington Avenue. Captain Pritchard, his wife Mary, his mother-in-law Frances Delespine Boye, and his children Boud and Kate were the original occupants. Captain Pritchard died in 1926 and is buried at Oaklawn Cemetery in Titusville, Florida. Boud and his wife, Lola Pauline Smith, known as "Miss Lovie" lived in the house until their deaths. Boud and Miss Lovie's daughter Mary lived in house until 2005, when the house was purchased by Brevard County Board of County Commissioners.
The Pritchard House is a two-story wood-framed Queen Anne style residence located near downtown Titusville. It is surrounded by a white picket fence and is situated between two major thoroughfares. According to the original paperwork submitted to the National Park Service for the inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places:
The main block of the house is gable front with a slope front gable wing on the south elevation. Exterior walls imbricated with wood fishscale shingles. Outstanding features on the main block include decorative ogee shaped bargeboard with incised scrollwork and drop pendants. The side gable contains round arched bargeboard of similar design. A conical tower at the southeast corner complements a canted, two story porch. The porch wraps the east and west elevations and is supported by small Tuscan columns with scroll brackets. The front gabled bay is canted. Three large brick chimneys with corbelled caps and hoods are located on the north and south lateral slopes of the roof and the west ridge. The house rests on a brick pier foundation. A rear porch addition does not significantly affect the integrity of the structure. In the late nineteenth century, prominent citizens built Queen Anne-style homes along the South Washington Avenue and North Indian River Avenue corridors. The Pritchard House is the last remaining Queen Anne residence on South Washington Avenue.
In 2003, the owner of the home, Mary Pritchard Schuster sent a letter of intent to District 1 County Commissioner Truman Scarborough offering to sell the home to Brevard County. The house was to be restored in its original location and used as a Living History House Museum. No portion of the land could be sold, a member of the Pritchard family must be included in the organization that operates the museum and if the house ever ceases to operate as a house museum, ownership will revert to the Pritchard family. The county purchased the home and property for $250,000. After Brevard County took ownership of the Pritchard House in 2005, restoration began immediately.
Brevard County spent approximately $50,000 fixing the home before leasing it to the North Brevard Heritage Foundation. The North Brevard Heritage Foundation continued to renovate the home and planned to operate it as a museum. The house needed several repairs when Brevard County took possession of it. The foundation needed to be stabilized with concrete footings and hurricane-resistant straps. The porch required a return to historical accuracy. The home's interior needed to be restored as well, including furniture restoration, wallpapering, painting, and flooring.
An archeological dig began in 2005 by the Indian River Anthropological Society. Some treasures that were found included an ink bottle, perfume bottle, square nails, ceramic pieces, and children's marbles.

Built progressively between the late 1100's and the 1300's, the church's architecture incorporates both Romanesque and Gothic elements.
It's a nationally designated Historic Monument.
Built entirely by convict labour under the supervision of staff Trade Instructors, the house took nearly 3 years to build. The cost? Approximately $ 9,000.00 (in 1873 dollars). Designed in the Italianate Vernacular style by Acting Penitentiary Architect, Henry H. Horsey, it was constructed using a combination of local Kingston limestone quarried on the penitentiary reserve, with Ohio Sandstone accents. In the late 19th century, the residence became known as "Cedarhedge" in reference to the extensive manicured cedar hedges that once lined the driveway.
Built in East Germany in 1988 just before the fall of the Berlin wall. One of the last of the more 3.5 millions produced from 1957 to 1990.
Built between 1807 and 1810. The architect was the Anglo-Welsh John Nash. Today the house overlooks Porthluney Cove on the English Channel, but many years ago the view was of a wooded hillside. As the tin mines in the area began to close, the miners needed work so the owner of this house gave many of them a job removing the hill to open up the view to the cove.
Built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara (in Khmer: រាជវិហារ). Located approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray, it was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors. UNESCO inscribed Ta Prohm on the World Heritage List in 1992. Today, it is one of the most visited complexes in Cambodia’s Angkor region.
Built because of subsidence of the surface.
If natural gas is extracted from a natural gas field the initial pressure in the field will drop over the years. The gas pressure also supports the soil layers above the field. If the pressure drops, the soil pressure increases and this leads to subsidence at the ground level.
Subsidence is the motion of a surface (usually, the Earth's surface) as it shifts downward relative to a datum such as sea-level.

Built in 1855, the fort guarded Sheerness port and has had a few modifications over the years. It is a very interesting place to have a look around so many different rooms and staircases to explore The fort is accessible by foot at low tide, it is about half a mile offshore, quite a nice little walk through the mud, am really glad I had a couple of plastic bags to go over my boot's or I think I might of lost them

Built in 1900-1902, this Colonial Revival-style house was designed by Charles Alling Gifford for Joseph Stickney, a coal broker, to serve as a caretaker’s residence for the adjacent Mount Washington Hotel. The house is clad in white-painted wooden shingles with one-over-one windows, a hipped roof, porches with rectilinear columns, a rough-hewn stone base, multi-story bay windows, and oxeye attic windows flanked by decorative reliefs. The house is a contributing resource to the Mount Washington Hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
