This Dock leaf bug came walking down the leaf and just when he made his turn to go back up again I managed to take this picture.

I keep telling myself to take more macro pictures and not stay with birds all the time, the only problem is that you have to make a choice about which gear to take with you.

If I just have the macro lenses with me, I see all sort of nice birds and I wished that I had the 500mm with me, and vice versa . Both sets together takes up too much room and weights a ton, hence choices have to be made.

And then there is landscape photography as well, pfff live is difficult sometimes.

Two tiny woundwort shield bugs (Eysarcoris venustissimus) mating on bracken, one of several mating pairs here. The food plants of the larvae are hedge woundwort and white dead-nettle, so it was no surprise to note that the nuptials were taking place above a hedge woundwort.

Taken at Droxford by the river Meon, the meadow was full of insects

It's a bug's life!

Made from found objects including keys, scrap wire, found metal springs, found nuts, glass beads, ceramic beads, found sparkplug...

Andean Beetles, clearly the maroon one is earlier but this is the extent of my knowledge.

Do you see the Ladies face? This is why they named it "Lady Bug" Actually got this shot by accident! Perfect timing by luck! Ya never know!!! Keep Shooting!

I guess the bugs crawled out of his mouth...

A Bug and I Read Together

Many years ago, I followed bugs with a pen on paper inside an enclosed rectangle. I had devised this as a way to collaborate with insects, as it is an intensely focused way to try to climb into their worlds, travel with them and record their movements through space. After practicing this exercise for a many hours, with many different types of bugs I began to feel terribly guilty about subjecting them to my project. What I learned from them is that they wanted to get out of there and hide from me. The cockroach did just that when she crawled right up my pen over my arm and escaped into the studio. I quit the project when I accidentally crushed a centipede that was trying to squeeze underneath the rectangular wall.

I revisited the bug drawing project in 2009, however this time the words, “BUG” and “PEST” are read and written as the drawings are made. The trailing lines are defined by the paths of sowbugs and the empty areas reveal the labels that I imagine the bugs would apply to me as I interrupt their worlds to make them actors in mine.

I decided since I had the bug fabrics out I'd make a second quilt to have on hand for gifting.

I found these (3) tiny red bugs inside the reservoir so I thought maybe it's time to replace the filter? (it's about two months). So I went to Costco, got a 10 pk, gave the whole thing a bleach soak and changed the filter last night.

Tada! Look what I found this afternoon, the bugs are back again!

Does anyone has any clues about this and possible ID the bugs?

Could those bugs from my house and they just love to live inside the reservoir?!

I'm going to contact Brita now.

PS Please excuse Snappea from Mowl-ing in the background.

I'm sure it's something harmless, but MAN it's not the first thing you want to see in the morning in the shower in an unfamiliar place.

For the past few days we have had to dodge two hornets on our way in and out of the house. Normally I'm a live and let live kind of guy when the bugs stay outside, but not in this instance. There are certain bugs I give a wide berth to and hornets are one of them. When they take up residence in the bush right outside my door, however, that policy doesn't really work. With a six year old having to walk by them as well, I just wasn't going to tolerate them moving in. I've had the misfortune of being stung by a hornet before and it isn't something I want to experience again, nor is it something I ever want Savanah to experience.

I managed to hit both of them with the RAID bug spray stream (thank goodness for that 12' range!) and these two little buggers just flew off. I retreated a few dozen feet and waited for them to return just in case. After about five minutes I heard something fall through the leaves and this guy landed on the sidewalk about a foot from me. Even after being sprayed with this stuff he was still squirming around. A bee or a wasp would have been killed instantly, but these tough little bastards weren't. I had to hit him again to finish him off.

Once he was dead I figured I might as well bring him in and get some shots of him. I knew he wouldn't be too cooperative alive, but in his new condition he was more than willing to hold still and let me shoot him.

This little guy was struggling to get away from me, but all the obstacles were slowing him down!!!......^+^ ...........................'Bug Bath' On Black

Need some help on this one, she was tiny with a lovely song and sat perched on this grass for ages, sorry I couldn't get any closer, this was at the max of my 300mm lense and when I tried to get nearer she flew over to another reed.

Seen in the estuary nature reserve on Lindisfarne, early evening. Note the bug in his mouth and the fly on the grass as they will give some indication of his size.

Thanks to some help we think this may now be a female Stonechat.

Front-on view of an Assassin Bug was moving around the garden looking for its next meal.

These are horrible looking but curious insects. In the centre of the picture you can see the mouth-parts (or Rostrum) which tucks back under the main body. The Assassin bug has long legs to assist with its ambush attack.

I'm guessing this is either a Common or a Bee Killer Assassin Bug (Pristhesancus plagipennis), which hides on plants waiting for insect to land nearby where it will ambush.

This colony of bugs had encamped on this thistle type plant. The bugs are about 5 mm long and look like beetles. The most likely had just hatched here.
