I think this used to be a bar or restaurant - Nicosia No Mans Land.
After 4 years, i finally managed to get these photos from my trip with the United Nations. I met with UN military personnel as a journalist for the day to patrol through the Nicosia Buffer Zone. I was escorted by 3 highly experienced soldiers who had previously served on the frontline in Afghanistan and other military operations for NATO and the British army, and for the summer of 2021 they embarked on a peacekeeping mission with me. As soon as i literally stepped through the doorway, entering no mans land, the busy city street noise and enviroment faded to almost dead silence, it was striking. I had stepped into another world, it felt almost like a jungle. It was fascinating discovering this large abandoned area of land in the heart of Nicosia that has been frozen in time for decades and completely overun by nature. While on the patrol route, to our left we were in the crosshairs of the Turkish army as they are posted in positions on the green line outside of UN controlled areas and to our right the same with the Greek Cypriot army, there was much unease in the air.
