A Camellia plant in my conservatory aka 'The Jungle Room' is budding - in September! I am beginning to think that it has decided it isn't summer after all, and is becoming dormant in the bud department!! Now I have to keep it healthy til Spring! That seems a long long way off right now....

Hard to resist. I am not alone.

This beautiful flower, aka Protea Cynaroides, is the national flower of South Africa. Captured at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

I planted 10 Rocky Mountain bristlecone seeds a couple weeks ago and the first sprouts are coming up!

I think it is so beautiful, with the sepals aaah, and then the colours from red to yellow.

Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, perennial plants native to Mexico, Central America, and Colombia. There are at least 36 species of dahlia.

Dahlia hybrids are commonly grown as garden plants.

The Aztecs gathered and cultivated the dahlia for food, ceremonies, as well as decorative purposes, and the long woody stem of one variety was used for small pipes.

The dahlia is named after Swedish 18th-century botanist Anders Dahl.
