Bryce Canyon National Park at night … the break in the clouds was small and short-lived but beautiful.

There is another storm coming to the Bay Area right at this moment. Obviously I didn't go out and shoot photos. Flipping through my archive, I found this photo of Bryce from last year showcasing the local storm.
Just returned from an eight-day road trip to New Mexico for a Celebration of Life for my mom that was delayed a year due to Covid.
We caravanned with my youngest son, daughter-in-law, and our three young grandkids -- the youngest, just over a year-old, and took the long way home passing through Colorado, Utah, and Nevada, while making quick side trips to four national parks -- Mesa Verde, Arches, Bryce Canyon, and Zion.
I had hoped we could hit Capitol Reef too, but unfortunately, we just couldn't fit it in.
It rained every day of the trip -- which was a welcome relief coming from drought-stricken SoCal.
We hit Bryce about midday, and I wasn't expecting great light for shooting, but loved this light play and the clouds and rain in the distance from this vantage point at Inspiration Point.
Snowy hoodoos at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. This was taken from Bryce Point, which was named after Ebenezer Bryce, who was a Mormon pioneer who travelled west with Brigham Young. In 1870, he settled in the lands around Bryce Canyon. Of the amazing natural beauty that surrounded him, Bryce was quoted as saying that "It's a hell of a place to lose a cow."
When visiting Bryce Canyon it's easy to get overwhelmed by the grandeur of the scene. Instead, I like to teach folks to isolate and simplify the scene into the details the eye can better appreciate. There's no better way to do this than with a telephoto lens. Here's a shot I took at 600mm on a recent Bryce outing.
Bryce Canyon is the most impressive sight I have ever seen. I was blown away when I walked up to the edge. The photographs from Bryce are fantastic, and some of my own favorites. However, even the best photographs of this place does not make it justice. It has to be seen an experienced. I would highly recommend it if you haven't already been there. If you are lucky with the weather (like I was) get up before sunrise and keep shooting until after sunset. Bring warm clothes, extra memory cards and batteries!
In the depths of winter, the floor of Bryce becomes a showplace. With golden light selectively illuminating the previous nights snowfall, this Ponderosa Pine finds itself in the spotlights of Mother Nature's Stage.. Another panorama, this time from Bryce Canyon.
