Photographing birds soaring behind the rear deck of a ship rocking and rolling in the Antarctic seas can be a challenge. We were on the Scotia Sea on our way from the Antarctica Peninsula to South Georgia Island. The weather was freezing, winds were over 30 mph with seas of 10-15 feet. I had to keep my body moving in rhythm to the ship and braced hard against the railing to steady the camera. This Black-Browed Albatross was typical of the birds soaring the waves and waiting for refuse from the ship.

The White-browed Wagtail or Large Pied Wagtail (Motacilla maderaspatensis) is a medium-sized bird and is the largest member of the wagtail family. They are conspicuously patterned with black above and white below, a prominent white brow, shoulder stripe and outer tail feathers. They are common in small water bodies and have adapted to urban environments where they often nest on roof tops
Steeple Jason Island in the Falkland Islands is home to the largest colony of Black-browed Albatross in the world. This albatross is currently listed as an endangered species, due in part to long line fishing.
