Phylloscopus inoratus. A rather poor record shot, but you can just see the diagnostic double wing-bars and yellow eyebrow. They breed in Siberia from the Ural Mountains eastwards and winter in south-east Asia. They used to be quite scarce visitors to Britain, but their numbers have increased dramatically during the last forty years. This pattern has also been recorded across northern and western Europe. There has been much speculation about the cause of their increase in Europe, with some suggesting that they are evolving a new migration route and wintering grounds. The last few years have seen a bit of a dip in numbers, but this year many hundreds arrived in Britain during late September. Most records have been on the east coast with very few inland. I photographed this one inland at Rowntree Park in the centre of York. When I arrived, the bird wasn’t in the location reported so I checked out some woodland nearby and heard it calling. The disyllabic call is quite distinctive xeno-canto.org/935200. It was flitting about in the canopy and only briefly came down to some lower branches where it was still difficult to follow and photograph. Even though it’s a poor shot I thought I’d post it as it’s one of my favourite warblers and a great bird to see in York.
I believe this to be a red-browed finch. This one was only about 5 cm.
First time I have come across one of these. It would seem to me this is a fairly young bird looking at the feathers. This bird was photographed in fading light (iso 800, Shutter 1/30s 400mm, hand held) - so I was quite pleased with the sharpness and clarity. I recently purchased the SAL 70400G lens and my first impressions of this lens is extremely positive (very low noise for iso 800).

Building of the viaduct had commenced in 1876 and was formally opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Louise on 20th September 1877. On the viaduct above, a former bank that was converted into a jeweller's around 1959 was reputedly haunted. Footsteps could be heard on the tall flight of steps within the building but nobody could account for them. They finally stopped when the floor was lifted and an old well uncovered. The well had been partially filled and when they were emptying it they discovered a headless skeleton. The body was removed and taken to Tullie House Museum in Carlisle. The locomotives passing under the viaduct through Carlisle Citadel station are DB Schenker's electric loco class 92 No.92031 in the company's recently applied corporate livery to some of the UK locomotives formerly owned by Englsh Welsh and Scottish Railway. The trailing locomotive in tow (in Royal train livery) is 125mph class 67 No.67006 'Royal Sovereign'. The train service was the '4M63' Mossend to Hams Hall intermodal service. Bempton Cliffs, Yorkshire, UK. Awesome bird, showed incredibly well putting on an airshow right in front of us. High speed pass.
I see these often, zooming from one hiding place to the next. So feel quite happy whenever find one in the open for a second or few.

The Black-browed Barbet or Müller's Barbet (Megalaima oorti) is a bird belonging to the Asian barbet family, Megalaimidae.
It is 20-23.5 cm long. The plumage is mostly green apart from the head which is patterned with blue, yellow and red. There is a black stripe above the eye. The bill is black and the feet are grey-green. The Chinese name for the bird, "five-colored bird" (五色鳥) refers to the five colors seen on its plumage. Because of its colorful plumage and that its call resembles that of a percussion instrument known as a wooden fish, the species is also referred to as the "spotted monk of the forest" in Taiwan.

Mealhouse Brow is one of the streets clearly marked on the earliest map of Stockport town centre in 1680, labelled as ‘Wynn Bank’, and is thought to be a very ancient path. Theories surrounding Roman roads in the area include a road along the line of High Street and one heading out of the town along Millgate.

It was so nice to be able to spend some time outdoors, and in the company of such lovely creatures. It is something that I have missed.
Seen on Anton Lakes: Haven't got a clear shot of the head but wing patterns and general colouring seem to indicate the yellow-browed warbler!

A small, green warbler similar in size to a goldcrest. The yellow 'eyebrow' is distinctive, as is the coal tit-like call. Yellow-browed warblers breed in Siberia and occur in the UK every year as they migrate south-westwards.
