Mealhouse Brow is one of the streets clearly marked on the earliest map of Stockport town centre in 1680, labelled as ‘Wynn Bank’, and is thought to be a very ancient path. Theories surrounding Roman roads in the area include a road along the line of High Street and one heading out of the town along Millgate.

It was so nice to be able to spend some time outdoors, and in the company of such lovely creatures. It is something that I have missed.

Saw my first Albatross at Bempton. Fantastic bird.

Seen on Anton Lakes: Haven't got a clear shot of the head but wing patterns and general colouring seem to indicate the yellow-browed warbler!

RSPB: (www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/bird-and-wildlife-guid...)

A small, green warbler similar in size to a goldcrest. The yellow 'eyebrow' is distinctive, as is the coal tit-like call. Yellow-browed warblers breed in Siberia and occur in the UK every year as they migrate south-westwards.

The Black-browed is an Asian barbet native to Peninsular Malaysia & Sumatra, where it inhabits foremost forests between 600 and 2,000 m altitude. A loud but sluggish & difficult-to-see canopy inhabitant of highland forests in peninsular Malaysia & Sumatra. Note the leaf-green body, brightly coloured face, & heavy black bill. More often heard than seen; listen for its long, unending series of hollow-sounding notes. Like many other barbets, it can be difficult to locate when singing, but can sometimes be seen at fruiting trees. Formerly regarded as the same species as Taiwan, Indochinese, and Chinese Barbets.

Black Browed Albatross Soaring Over The Drake Passage

Prints Available Here

This motmot is number 14 of 15 drawings in Tim Jeffs' colouring book Rainforest Birds.

The motmots or Momotidae are a family of birds in the near passerine order Coraciiformes, which also includes the kingfishers, bee-eaters and rollers.

(I think Tim Jeffs has caught the likeness to a kingfisher exactly!)

All extant motmots are restricted to woodland or forests in the Neotropics, most are in Middle America.

In Costa Rica the Turquoise-browed is sometimes known as the 'foolish bird' as it allows humans to get close to it! Also known as the 'clock bird' because it wags its tail like a pendulum.

I would call it the 'tick tock bird'!

37 424 is viewed from Parton Brow as it skirts the Cumbrian Coast with 2C41 14.37 Barrow to Carlisle. Following a conversation with the local ice cream man, 82 years old, it became apparent that this view would have been very different in years gone by. Terraced houses lined this road and would have obscured any view of the line. Having looked through some old maps of Parton, Lonsdale Terrace and other associated houses were demolished from the late 1950's onwards with the final houses disappearing towards the end of the 1960's.
