The Rock Dove (Columba livia) or Rock Pigeon, is a member of the bird family Columbidae (doves and pigeons). In common usage, this bird is often simply referred to as the "pigeon". The species includes the domestic pigeon (including the fancy pigeon), and escaped domestic pigeons have given rise to feral populations around the world.
Wild Rock Doves are pale grey with two black bars on each wing, although domestic and feral pigeons are very variable in colour and pattern. There are few visible differences between males and females. The species is generally monogamous, with two squeakers (young) per brood. Both parents care for the young for a time.
Habitats include various open and semi-open environments. Cliffs and rock ledges are used for roosting and breeding in the wild. Originally found wild in Europe, North Africa, and western Asia, feral Pigeon have become established in cities around the world. The species is abundant, with an estimated population of 17 to 28 million feral and wild birds in Europe.

What to do when you have nothing that needs to be done...sleep on the pile of clean clothes! This is Sissy. She's the queen of our cat brood. She's not one of those queens that rule by force. She prefers to rule by intimidation. When she can move a 20 lb. Maine Coone with just a stare, you know she's in charge.
And for those that have no cats (or pets for that matter) and are looking at this with the "Ewwww" face (an animal on the clean clothes), it's just something you get used to. By the way, she's impeccably clean (her own doing not ours)!
Brood X (Brood 10) or "the Great Eastern Brood," is one of 15 broods of periodical cicadas that appear regularly throughout the eastern United States. It has the greatest range and concentration of any of the 17-year cicadas. The brood's first major emergence after 2021 is predicted to occur during 2038.

If you look at this rainbow trout, you can see the tail fin is actually round and paddle like. The other photo shows the fish has really runty-looking pectoral fins. This is from years of living in crowded concrete raceways of the hatchery. Every year the DNR releases some of their old breeders into the river -- sort of like putting them out to pasture. They are usually a lot more gullible than the brown and they usually have some size to them. ( 4 Dec. 2010.)
Sitting at a light, leaving work, I noticed this tower against the darkening sky and quickly took a shot out the window just before the light turned green. I like the detailed silhouette of the tower, and the tree, the post and wires, but they didn't come out very clearly, so I plan to revisit this later to see if I can get a better shot. I liked the mood of the sky as well.
