A photograph taken in July this year. The Black & White conversion is inspired by Vincent Versace's book "From Oz to Kansas" using Lightroom, Photoshop and Color Efex Pro & Silver Efex Pro.
Here's my entry to the Cicada race. Once the sun came up, so did the Cicadas. There most have been thousands all around us. The sound was incredible and really messes with your mind.
Susquehanna State Park
This is a view from the "Prison" pinnacles on the Quiraing looking south-east past the peak of Dun Mor on the left middle ground over the village of Staffin on the Isle of Skye. The body of water on the left is the Sound of Raasay with the islands of Rona and Raasay being hit by a deluge of rainfall.
The weather was its usual changeable rain and strong wind on this dawn trip up this enchanting part of the Trotternish Peninsula. I think this gives a sense of the amazing landscape here.
Just a few meters away from the swan reflected in the restaurant windows, this swan sat brooding on its nest at the edge of a quiet corner of the Tempelhof harbour basin.
Nur wenige Meter entfernt vom sich in Restaurantfenstern spiegelnden Schwan saß dieser Schwan brütend auf dem Nest am Rand einer ruhigen Ecke des Tempelhofer Hafenbeckens.
This caring parent bird allowed me to get up as close as I have ever been, seemingly determined to distract me away from its young brood.
The chicks had long since sensibly disappeared into the long grasses, so I was more than happy to spend a few minutes in the company of this beautiful bird.

A mother wood duck with her brood of seven ducklings on a little island in the lagoon at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in Calgary Alberta.
A migratory bird that is famous for appearing just before the start of the rainy season. In the countryside, people still predict rains by its sightings. In many parts of India, it migrates all the way to Africa and comes back just in time for the rains which is the breeding season. But in South India, this is a resident bird and can be seen late summers, rainy seasons and sometimes in the winters too.
This species of Cuckoo is a brood parasite and lays its eggs in other birds nests. It would eat one of the hosts eggs and drop its own in them. The bird prefers Bulbuls, both Red Vented and White throated, tailorbirds etc.. as hosts for its eggs.
We sighted two of them in the area I visited during the weekend. The place was teeming with butterflies and no wonder there were so many cuckoo's there. This cuckoo caught caterpillars in the dry bushes and then flew over to the trees and consumed it there. This happened a couple of times and that is when I took this shot!

Beautiful Brood Parasite - a male Brown-headed Cowbird in my yard in Chester County, PA.
Many dislike them because of their breeding behavior, but to me their shiny brown heads against their iridescent blue-green bodies are very beautiful.

Stormy evening sky after sunset over the amazing Bryce landscape. This was certainly one amazing evening there with the rainbow that formed ... and then the moody weather continued into the evening.

After our goose lady "Hanneli" died, we had to find a new playmate for Ganter "Fridolin". The new one is called "Socke" and is a goose as it stands in the book: Always in a bad mood and aggressive. But she gets along well with Fridolin and soon she had 5 eggs. Now it is brooding. Of course we hope for offspring - but you never know: Fridolin is already quite old ...
In order to be able to take photos by hand, I bought an Illford Delta with 3200 ASA - but I have to say that this is not my favorite film. The result is a real "grain salad" - and it's either black or white - there's not much in between.

Here is the same scene, but this time in true monochromatic infrared. Living green things are turned white, the highlights in the clouds stand out, and in the foreground you can see a subtle rendering of the long grass. As with infrared the water is darkened almost to black, providing a perfect opportunity to highlight the roofline of the homestead. A key to all infrared photography is being able to pre-envisage the final outcome when taking the shot.
This menacing scene at Waihi beach (Hawera, New Zealand) was brightened momentarily by the sun's appearance just before it dipped below the horizon. For the record, the scene matched the photographer's mood!

A lone kayaker, dressed like Indiana Jones’s quieter cousin, glides across a grayscale lake with the intensity of someone who just discovered poetry. The water sparkles. The trees whisper. And somewhere, a Spotify playlist called “Soul Search Vibes” is playing.
