Brood XIII finds a cool place to die. At this date the howl of the males searching for mates continues in our parts. But in a few weeks the din will subside, and more photos of masses of dead 17 year cicadas will crop up, no doubt.

Although I initially thought it's a mothership from Starship Troopers ;), I later found out that it is a Magicicada, and a member of Brood XIII. Apparently 2008 was the end of their 17th years life cycle, time at which they come out of the ground.
The picture was taken in the summer of 2008, in Bucharest, Romania.
