Breaker” — Waves generated by a big Pacific Ocean storm break near the California coastline.
It is quite the experience to get up close and personal with huge storm surf like this — though having a very long lens and finding the right shooting location helps makes it safe. During California’s bout of giant waves between Christmas and New Year’s we headed to the coast south of San Francisco. At this location a peninsula juts out into the ocean between a beach on one side and a bay on the other. At the tip of this peninsula one is very close to the waves as they break and roll into that bay.
In a way, photographing these waves is more or less like photographing moving landscapes. They have slopes, peaks, and cliffs, and the effects of wind and light are part of the scene. The main difference is that everything is ephemeral and nothing repeats. The landscape usually stands still, but when photographing waves the landscape photographer has to think more like someone photograph active wildlife or sports, making instantaneous, intuitive decisions about timing and composition.

EVERYONE was peeing on the wall. I especially like the guys in the priest costumes peeing there. I dont know if that's really appropriate. Oh well. All the girls were found squatting between cars and in the bushes. It truly was ridiculous. Glad I had a camera

"The Breakers" was built by Cornelius Vanderbilt II (one of the richest men in America) and designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt (1827-1895) at Newport, Rhode Island, in 1893. Breakers is the flagship of Newport mansions and a world-famous iconic image.
An Atlantic wave breaking on the jetty wall at Sennen Cove is illuminated by the evening sunlight. Much larger breaking waves are commonplace in autumn and winter.

We had big waves last weekend, so I tried panning them for the first time. I was very pleased with the results - did you know, every wave is different? :)
BIGGER option.
An excellent day taking pictures in Wallasey, Liverpool. I had to stand on the sea breakers to get this shot which you see in the front of the image.
I shot this for the JoeDios self-custom challenge. Not a "custom" per se, but my childhood custom is in pieces and partially stripped of paint. Breaker suits me nowadays anyway. At least, my kid says so. I've got a few pounds on him, but he and I are pretty similar. Except for the compulsive gum chewing and Tennessee accent.
