Another snowy day and my male woodpecker was back for more food and even hung out for a while between helpings. This is one of my adapted silver birch loppings which have holes drilled in the side to be filled with a breadcrumb and peanut butter mix.

Now I'm pretty sure I hadn't left the oven on (especially as I was sitting right opposite it) but I do tend to be taking a lot of photos where I'm looking off into space lately. Maybe I was contemplating cleaning up all of those breadcrumbs, although I seriously doubt it 😀

Zutaten:

Fertig!

I don't remember the long trip to the expansion region, I don't remember the explosion, and I don't remember the impact. Not clearly, anyway. It hadn't been my first crash, but the thick jungles of Parcellus Minor tore apart our gunship as soon as we got low enough to graze the first treetop. There wasn't even a crash site - I woke up tied right up against the troop bay door by a mess of vines with my DC-15x pressing tight on my chest making it difficult to breathe. I was still high above the forest floor, with my feet dangling in the open air. It actually took me longer than it should have to find the rest of the ship, as my eyes followed a breadcrumb trail of busted scrap painted white and red scattered about in the trees. It was extremely difficult to carefully free my body from the vines without dropping the entire door and killing myself, especially since at first I only had one arm free to move and the other pinned to my side. Once I was eventually free, reaching the ground was surprisingly simple as I could just slide down the mess of vines hanging in the open from massive overbearing trees camouflaged by a shell of fungus and weeds.

After I made my way to what remained of the gunship I was amazed to find that the entire crew had survived, including the pilots. Like the troop bay door before, the main cabin of the LAAT/i had been cushioned on impact by getting caught in all the fauna before actually touching the ground. It barely looked like what we flew in on, considering all the armor plating on the outside had been stripped from the mainframe, along with both wings, both bubble turrets, and one of our engines. Everyone on the inside had been beat up pretty badly, but we were still in fighting shape besides a few cuts, bruises, and broken bones.

And so I was left with a full set of men in my command, like the old days. I hadn't been responsible for anyone for awhile, but something on the inside felt wrong knowing that with everyone still alive I was obligated to keep their hearts beating. This was Prom Squad, who I'd only met several hours earlier onboard the CR70 Corvette in orbit around Parcellus Minor. I no longer ask for the names of my soldiers, not since I lost Yankee Company. We had 12 men including myself currently ready to carry out our objective, except now it would be a good long walk to wherever we were going. We had a mission to complete, and there would be no point staying at the wreck. Nobody was going to come looking for us out here in this muck; I would be impressed if the CR70 even stuck around in the system after we dropped out of contact. I instructed my troops to pack up only whatever necessities they would need; all the food we hadn't lost, some personal medical supplies, and blasters. I'm not out here for a long hike in the woods; we still had things to kill. Prom Squad had been sent to Parcellus Minor to eliminate an elusive target who had recently fled to this planet and been shot down by one of our ARC-170 pilots in atmosphere before she could land. Her ship had crashed on this same isolated island, but when troopers would reach the ground to search for her body, they wouldn't come back. Our first location to search was the crash site of her fighter, which had been marked for us in orbit and was still identified on our HUDs.

It was getting late in the night, and my men had been marching for several hours doing nothing but shooting at occasional Emmosi lizards for sport. It was getting increasingly hard to see, and I became more and more reliant on the feedback from my HUD to actually navigate through the harsh jungle. My minimap displays each Republic Clone Trooper located within close proximity, highlighted as a yellow dot coming from a signal broadcasted from their armor. It had only displayed my own icon with 11 others trailing right behind me before I noticed something unusual. I actually didn't notice it until one of my men spotted a silhouette in a relatively open area on the forest floor.

"Hey Sarge," he began: "I've been walking in this muck for hours now, but that over there sure doesn't look like anything we've seen all day."

He pointed to a tall pin-like shape sticking out from the ferns, which was clearly visible against the backdrop of dim blue fauna illuminated by the moonlight. It was located right where another another yellow dot was placed on our minimaps. As we cautiously approached, we found a haunting display of aggression. We had found a bloodied helmet from a fallen trooper planted right on top of his rifle, protruding directly up from the ground. This wasn't a grave, as the ground beneath the helmet was still covered in greenery and there was no body to be found. There were signs of a struggle, with blaster burn scars all over the area around us. However, the helmet itself was relatively untouched on the outside.

I boosted the receptive area on my minimap and instructed my men to do the same. As the display grew larger and larger covering the island, more and more yellow specks would appear on my HUD - each and every one would lie motionless on the map.

For the rest of the night we remained on high alert and traversed the jungle in a kill circle rather than a marching line. I could tell that my troops were spooked, especially the two pilots whom were only armed with a single DC-17 hand blaster for each of them. It was a cold silence for several hours as none of my men said anything, until that silence was broken when one of my troopers spontaneously let out a nightmarish scream and gripped his stomach before falling to the ground. He was still moving, but his chest armor and utility belt were both badly crushed and dusted a light brownish color. Of all the things that my men die from, he had been hit by a rock.

I didn't even give the order to shoot, but out of simple confusion and anger my men let out a barrage of blaster fire into the trees around us, illuminating the night in a brilliant display of whites and blues before I finally told them to stop. We all stood around our fallen trooper, watching as blood leaked from his armor. We had another short moment of chilling silence before I noticed on my HUD that another yellow speck on my minimap was moving away from the group. In all the commotion another one of my men had been separated from the squad and we could barely hear his cries for help over the deafening buzz of jungle bugs. One man roared in rage as he charged after our missing trooper while the others called for him to stay.

"YOU TWO," I ordered: "Go bring him back! Leave the food and bacta packs here, they'll slow you."

They both nodded, and trudged into the trees in the night, getting further and further away until they dropped out of range of my map. I was left with two pilots and four soldiers in Prom Squad to reach the crash site. Radio was useless, I couldn't reach my split off troops through the dense jungle. We did not wait, as I ordered my men to stand up and keep moving. Several minutes later we could hear faint blaster fire in the distance which became increasingly more frequent until abruptly departing completely.

As the night began to end, we could tell we were getting closer and closer to the crash site as small shards of battered debris would be found peppered on top of the fauna on the forest floor. It was broad daylight when we finally reached the downed starfighter. Unlike our gunship, this had hit pretty hard when it crashed and blasted away whatever had been around it. For the first time since we arrived, we could actually see the dirt we were standing on, which had been smoothed and blackened into a small crater around the fighter. We set up a patrolling perimeter around the downed craft as I had my remaining men investigate. The ion cannons were removed, the weapons had been emptied of all ammunition, and the reinforced glass on the cockpit was missing entirely. However, we still hadn't found a body. It had been my shift to patrol around the ship when one of my pilots started yelling to me. Most of my men had started going through the ship, which had been turned into a makeshift hut before we arrived.

"We found something!" He called.

I had just begun to walk over to them when the shields on the starfighter flickered briefly, and the entire ship detonated with my men on it. What remained of the ship was obliterated, and a slab of burning debris flew from the explosion and nailed my pelvis. There were no more yellow specs on my HUD aside from my own, and they wouldn't be coming back. I painfully sat up and crawled over to my DC-15x rifle. As black ash began to fall while I lie in the soil, my weakened body slowly righted itself and I stood up - facing the blazing corpse of one of my fallen soldiers. I continued to monologue to myself for far too long, I don't remember how much time had passed.

"I am the highly decorated Major Pyne of the 707th legion of the 457th Corps of the Grand Army of the Republic. I am identified by CT-28-6377. I am a perfect clone of Jango Fett, the most renowned bounty hunter the galaxy has ever known. I have fought the Separatist forces for countless months in order to preserve peace and order across the stars. I have liberated cities, planets, star systems. I have survived the Rakghoul plague. I have braved Cularin. I have conquered Geonosis. Now it's just you and me all the way out here, and I am going to win."

I waited for hours until the smoldering wreck of the ship burned out. I then perched myself in the middle of the open area, crouching adjacent to the bones of my brothers. Throughout the time my troops had spent tied up in this mess, not a single soldier to my knowledge had actually been shot. I could reasonably expect that my enemy was not armed with blasters, as each glorified clone trooper trophy helmet had been left by his own DC-15a. I was forcing my aggressor to approach me on my own terms, as neither of us would be leaving the island and we were bound to confront each other eventually.

It worked. During the same day, I saw a hooded human figure slowly approach the crash site in plain view. She was very scantily clad, with her clothing torn and ripped. She was wearing a sash over he shoulder of white thermal detonators taken from the backs of clone troopers. On top of all this was a long hooded robe which hid her face, with a single short braid hanging out the front. There was no exchange, no words. I slowly raised my DC-15x and activated the scope, with the crosshair leveled right in the center of her shoulders. As I did this, her body shifted into a more aggressive standing position. There were several moments where in the midst of all the life in this jungle, it seemed like nothing was moving, nothing was stirring. I had drowned out everything, and focused only on my clear shot at the woman who had killed 11 replications of me in the past day.

I pulled the trigger. In one rapid movement, she whipped in the air and dodged my shot right before she began to run towards me. What she did not account for, is that my DC-15x fires explosive rounds - I had pegged a tree directly behind her which shattered on impact. Shreds of wood and fire filled the air and covered her back. She wailed and collapsed into the dirt while I readjusted my crosshair back onto her body. Moaning in pain and covered in blood, she lifted her body up and broke into a sprint, dodging my shots. As she got closer and closer she became a larger target, easier to hit. As she got closer I could see a distracting white reflection on her hip which doubled as a target. My shots became more consistent, right to the point where I had lined up a shot which is physically impossible to miss at said range. I fired, and her figure was consumed by a cloud of sparks and flames. But she kept running towards me, her clothes on fire and blood trailing from her arms. I hesitated. I had another kill shot, but I couldn't pull the trigger. She was charging me with a lightsaber, shining a brilliant blue which illuminated her body even in the harsh sunlight.

She was screaming now, and close enough that the hum of her sword became louder and louder as she closed the distance between us. I readjusted my aim, and fired. She attempted to reflect my shot with her Jedi weapon, which was a futile effort as my round detonated in front of her. Nonetheless, she kept running. I fired again and again, each shot slowing her approach until she collapsed a second time right at my boots. As I kicked away her lightsaber, I moved her body onto her back with my legs and stood over her. I pulled out my DC-17 sidearm. She could not see, she could not move, but she could feel. I pressed the barrel up to her forehead. She smiled at me and whispered:

"You, you're not real."

I am the disgraced leader of thousands of men. I have marched my brothers into battle and abandoned their bodies on dozens of worlds across this war-torn galaxy. I have disrupted peace and security and pulled us into an unending state of conflict. I have decimated cities. I have killed warlords. I have killed prisoners. I have killed Separatists.

And now, I have killed Jedi.

Really tasty, a bit of mither to make. The Coconut milk pancakes were tricky as they stuck to the griddle. The rest is easy. The mixture would be nice as a veggi pie filling too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

These or simuliar szenes you can see presently almost daily in our little Park downtown. The male swan banishes all other birds out of the lake to protect his offsprings. This duck did the mistake that it was trying to steal some Breadcrumbs from the cygnets and the male swan saw it .... !!!! He hunted this poor little duck down and even managed to pull out some feathers .... but the duck finally could rescue itself in between the People that had been watching this scenery ....

MacroMondays Once upon a time.

I have chosen Breadcrumbs to represent the Brothers Grimm Fairy tale - Hansel and Gretel.

Hansel and Gretel are the children of a poor woodcutter. When a great famine settles over the land, the woodcutter's wife decides to take the children into the woods and leave them there to fend for themselves, so that she and her husband do not starve to death, because the children eat too much. The woodcutter opposes the plan but finally, and reluctantly, submits to his wife's scheme. They were unaware that in the children's bedroom, Hansel and Gretel have overheard them. After the parents have gone to bed, Hansel sneaks out of the house and gathers as many white pebbles as he can, then returns to his room, reassuring Gretel that God will not forsake them.

The next day, the family walk deep into the woods and Hansel lays a trail of white pebbles. After their parents abandon them, Hansel and Gretel follow the trail back home. When the wife sees them she is furious and locks them in the house. Hansel and Gretel are unable to escape or even simply collect pebbles.

The following morning, the family treks into the woods. Hansel takes a slice of bread and leaves a trail of bread crumbs for them to follow home. However, after they are once again abandoned, they find that birds have eaten the crumbs and they are lost in the woods. After days of wandering, they follow a beautiful white bird to a clearing in the woods, and discover a large cottage built of gingerbread, cakes, candy and with window panes of clear sugar. Hungry and tired, the children begin to eat the rooftop of the house, when the door opens and a "very old woman" emerges and lures the children inside, with the promise of soft beds and delicious food and a hot bath. They do this unaware that their hostess is actually a bloodthirsty witch who waylays children to cook and eat them.

The next morning, the witch cleans out the cage in the garden from her previous captive. Then she throws Hansel into the cage and forces Gretel into becoming her slave. The witch feeds Hansel regularly to fatten him up. Hansel is smart and when the witch asks for Hansel to stick out his finger for her to see how fat he is, he sticks out a bone he finds in the cage every time. The witch is too impatient and decides to eat Hansel anyway.

The next day, the witch prepares the oven for Hansel, but decides she is hungry enough to eat Gretel too. She coaxes Gretel to the open oven and prods her to lean over in front of it to see if the fire is hot enough. Gretel, sensing the witch's intent, pretends she does not understand what she means. Infuriated, the witch demonstrates and Gretel instantly shoves the hag into the oven, slams and bolts the door shut, leaving "the ungodly creature to be burned to ashes", screaming in pain until she dies. Gretel frees Hansel from the cage and the pair discover a vase full of treasure and precious stones. Putting the jewels into their clothing, the children set off for home.

A duck ferries them across an expanse of water and at home they find only their father who revealed that their mother died from an unknown cause. Their father had spent all his days lamenting the loss of his children and is delighted to see them safe and sound. With the witch's wealth, they all live happily ever after.

Hyas sp, Toad Crab. Adorned with Breadcrumb sponge, which I wonder if it would eventually restrict it. Found among seaweed at low tide on "Coral" Beach, Plockton - which is actually calcified seaweed.

I had to cut the ham in two pieces. After boiling for one hour a kilo, I grilled it for about 10 minutes at 225 degrees with sauce from eggs, mustards and breadcrumbs. When its ready from Owen you have to wait for it to cool down. Then you slice it into thin pieces and take the fat off. With some mustards on its really salty and delicious... Yummi!

If you love classic Chicken Cordon Bleu, this Chicken Cordon Bleu Meatloaf is a must-try! It’s juicy, cheesy, and packed with layers of ham and Swiss cheese, all wrapped inside a flavorful ground chicken mixture. This dish delivers all the flavors of the traditional dish, but in an easy-to-make meatloaf form—perfect for family dinners!

Ham, Cheese and Potato Croquettes

Kirkstall Abbey

Built in the 12th century the ruins of the two rooms in the foreground are of the refectory on the left and the warming room on the right.

The refectory was extended in the 1180’s to its present size. The monks ate boiled vegetables and wholemeal bread and drank water and wine. A monk would stand on a raised area on the west wall and read passages from the bible as the other monks ate in silence. Monks who finished eating first were encouraged to make crosses out of the breadcrumbs to stop their minds wandering from the bible reading. During the late Middle Ages the monks began to eat meat on a regular basis.

During the winter the monks ate one meal a day and in the summer they had two.

The warming room on the right contained a fire burning in a hearth, every day each monk was allowed to spend the grand total of 15 minutes in front of the fire to get warm.

I bet they were glad of that wine !!

We did notice that the abbot had his own two storey house, complete with its own hearth to keep the whole area warm.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

The seagulls are back flying around now so , much to the total embarrassment of my kids, I'm back with my bag of breadcrumbs trying to photograph them. I haven't done any in monochrome lately, but I think this one lends itself to black and white.

I believe you are not supposed to feed any of the birds (especially with bits of bread and breadcrumbs) at the lake - but - it happens.

the recipe is simple enough but i still managed to take a wrong turn!

i broke the egg in the breadcrumbs and herbs mixture, realised it was too dry to hold onto the tofu so added another egg to the mix

finally did what i should have done all along and reread the recipe -

one egg to be mixed in a bowl on its own,

then the tofu to be dipped into the beaten egg

followed by rolling the tofu in the breadcrumbs and herb mixture

anyway i wasn't throwing it all away so continued. wrapped as well as i could the breadcrumb mixture around the tofu and then cooked slowly on a low heat in extra virgin olive oil

despite the problems along the way it tasted delicious and would cook again but next time following the recipe! flic.kr/p/2qhCNX8

i added a teaspoon of each of the herbs (and would do that again) and didn't have any parmesan cheese so used grated mature cheddar cheese

i also added a teaspoon of turmeric powder (i like the yellow)

The ibis's and the mascoy duck raced up for breadcrumbs on Thanksgiving but I just sat there and posed. Who am I?

Austria, Viennese cuisine, there is probably no dish more characteristic of Vienna than Wiener Schnitzel.

Wiener Schnitzel & Kaiserschmarn is with Strudel, Dumplings, Sachertorte, Salzburger Nockerl & Tafelspitz among the best-known classics, with a high ranking of the most popular Austrian cuisine.

The schnitzel cut from the particularly delicate rear part of the calf, the "Lean Rump", flattened with feeling, lightly seasoned, dusted with flour, pulled through an egg battered with a little cream & than gently striped off excess egg, turned-over in breadcrumbs & the crumbs pressed but not to firmly on the schnitzel, because with this "soft" breading, the breading remains dry, does not stick to the meat & can "souffler"/inflate while frying golden-brown in a pan in sizzling vegetable oil & clarified butter.

The classic Viennese side dish is potato salad.

The schnitzel is garnished with some fried & salted parsley.

The obligatory half lemon is wrapped in so called cheese-cloth, to retain the lemon seeds while squeeze the juice out.

The influence of other cultures led to a culinary development & regionally wide-ranging cuisine, especially from all regions of the K. & K. monarchy, such as Hungary, Bohemia & Northern Italy. Due to the marriages among the European aristocratic houses, Austria's recipes also had a strong influence on the French cuisine, vice versa but also from France, dishes & preparation methods were taken over from there, integrated & adapted.

…. 👉 👉 👉 Kaiserschmarrn mit Zwetschkenröster

Shredded fluffy Pancake with stewed Plums, a light, caramelized pancake made from a sweet batter using flour, eggs, sugar, a pinch of salt & milk, baked in a pan in butter. When making Kaiserschmarrn the egg whites are separated from the yolk & beaten until stiff, then the flour & the yolks are mixed with sugar & the other ingredients are added. The baked pancake is split with two forks into pieces, tossed again with some butter & sugar, placed on a plate & sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Some raisins marinated in rum, brown cane sugar, a split vanilla bean & hot dark tea added to the batter gives the "Schmarrn" a special twist.

… 👉…if a non-stick pan is used, rather the forks a wooden spatula is recommended, to avoid scratches in pan.

Traditionally, the Kaiserschmarrn is served with stewed plums or various other fruit compotes, like lingonberries, strawberries, pears or apples etc.

The emergence of "Kaiserschmarrn", literally meaning "Imperators Rubbish, is at least as legendary as the Wiener Schnitzel. The fact is that it is one of the best-known desserts in Austrian cuisine & that the "Schmarrn" has been a popular pan-fried pancake dish in the rural environment for many centuries.

Even Emperor Franz Joseph Ith took a liking to the fluffy dessert & so sat down the term "Kaiserschmarrn" quickly.

Another image from my series 'Aurora' . :)

This image is based on the old tale 'Hansel and Gretal', following the breadcrumbs to future, represented by the pink house.

On Vintage Noritake China. Cooking is my other hobby. This is the first Schnitzel I've cooked. Really the first thing I've ever breaded, I think. Double breaded with seasoned Panko breadcrumbs and egg. The veggies are zucchini, with shitake mushrooms, onion, red pepper, and garlic. Very tasty if I do say so myself.

Now I understand what everyone was talking about when they said the boxes are huge, are they ever LOL, but they're actually really nice boxes. They're much heavier cardboard than the small boxes, & they're not blind, you know what's in each box. I only have the individual sets, I can't imagine how huge the big box is.

These are both fairly nice sets (no faces YAY!), I think they could have done a better job on the egg yolk (I think that's what it is) in the bowl in set 1, & the filling mixture in the bowl in set 2, but the other pieces are nice.

August changes to September. Only a few are left to enjoy the best part of the year.

The Milky Way in the sky above the granite rock formation in the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine California.

Light painting and a 25 second exposure of the sky. Processed in Photoshop CC 2015.5.

I first capture the sky with the stars. Then I make another exposure of the foreground. In Photoshop, I combine the two images. Doing this gives me much more control on the two very different parts of the night scene.

I select my night shots in tow ways. One is to scout in the daytime. I will find where the Milky Way will be in the sky and the time using the SkySafari app. I will often leave breadcrumbs to help me find the spot in the dark. My breadcrumbs are those little battery candle lights I buy by the dozens on eBay.

The second method is just wander around at night looking for great foregrounds to go with the Milky Way.

What happens if I see a beautiful rock formation for light painting but the sky above is just stars, not the Milky Way? I take the foreground light painting exposures and then turn the camera and tripod around and photography the sky with the Milky Way. Then in Photoshop I combine the sky with the foreground. Is this cheating? Not for me, as I am a landscape photography artist.

I seldom shoot with my lenses wide open for night photography as that limits the Depth of Field and also shooting wide open does not give the sharpest images. I try to use an f-stop of 6.3 or 7 for most of my light painting images where there is some depth in the foreground. In a scene like this one, you first shoot the stars with your lens set to infinity. I will use my Nikon's Live View and zoom the display to maximum and the focus on a star and get the sharpest image possible. then without touching the focus, I take the times shot. For the foreground, I then focus on the rocks.

The night sky was shot at f-7 for 25 seconds at an ISO of 3200. The rocks were exposed for 5 seconds at f-7 at ISO 1250.

REDBUBBLE

A charlotte is a type of dessert or trifle that can be served hot or cold. It can also be known as an "ice-box cake". Bread, sponge cake or biscuits/cookies are used to line a mold, which is then filled with a fruit puree or custard. It can also be made using layers of breadcrumbs.
