The train had worked down from York on the ECML and was routed onto the Lincoln - Sheffield line. However, the train reversed at Thrumpton West Junction and returned north on the ECML.
Not sure of the reason - but I heard that neither of the drivers were passed to take the train onto the Sheffield line?

PKP (Polish Railways) EP05-23 has just run round its train at Libiąż, on the second day of the Branch Line Society's "The Katowice and Kraków Wanderer" railtour. On the right, a pair of Polregio Pesa-built "Acatus Plus" type 41E EMUs (with set EN99-001 nearest the camera), has arrived on 09.46 from Kraków Główny, and has disgorged its passengers for a rail replacement bus onwards to Oświęcim (most passenger trains were replaced by buses on that section of their journey); on the left PKP Cargo's SM42-1319 is stabled.
This would have been a better shot if I'd waited until the charter began to depart so that the loco was much further forward, but this was not an option as I was travelling on it!

37403 Isle of Mull leads 1Z69 14.10 South Dock Port of Sunderland - Doncaster across Ryhope Grange Jn. in Sunderland, coming off the South Dock branch and running just over ten minutes early. This was the final leg of the Branch Line Society's "The Tweedmouth Tractors" railtour, the first day of a three-day tour originally advertised as "The Tyne Tees Tractors".
Having got the main shot I was after of this tour, approaching the signal protecting the junction, I wondered if the train would be let out early or wait until its booked 14.54, which was less than twenty minutes away. It didn't have any other trains to wait for, and actually a slightly late departure would possibly delay a Grand Central empty stock move into Ryhope Grange Sidings. It would have been great to be able to get to one of the scenic locations on the coast, but that was definitely not going to be possible as a result of the walks involved.
I considered Horden, Newburn bridge in Hartlepool (another photographer was going to try, but failed) and here. As I drove up to the bridge, I realised that the photographers already in position had just left their cars on the wide grass verge, so I did the same, grabbed my camera bag and ladders, and hurried across the road. As I was changing lenses I heard the train begin to move (it had been stood at the signal for only five minutes)... plenty of time!
One minor criticism of this shot is that I wish I'd stood slightly further to the right, as a compound of palisade fencing blocks the underframes of a couple of coaches right at the junction. Of course, the back of the train, including 37516, is hidden by the curvature of the junction. But I'd not expected to get a second shot of this leg, so I'm very pleased with this.

Tonbridge - Nottingham charter by the Branch Line Society, hauled by 66734 in Platinum Jubilee livery.
With sunshine returning in the nick of time - Hanson & Hall Class 50008 'Thunderer' & GBRf 50007 (masquerading as 50034 'Furious' one side) rear, pass Prickwillow with the Branch Line Society 'Merry Wherry' 1Z77 1725 Lowestoft to Derby return charter.
My luck finally ran out with 50007 west of Ely, missing full sunlight by 10-15 seconds. Weather best described as... somewhat challenging!
50007 (masquerading as 50034 Furious) is at the head of the return of the Branch Line Society's "Merry Wherry" railtour, pictured approaching the A141 bridge at Westry, March. This leg of the tour was 1Z77 17.25 Lowestoft - Derby. 50008 Thunderer is on the rear of the ex-Greater Anglia mark 3 coaches now branded for "The Real Charter Train Co."
The full tour ran as:
1Z70 06.48 Derby - Leicester (reverse) - Nottingham - Peterborough - Ely West Curve - Norwich (reverse) - Lowestoft;
1Z72 14.32 Lowestoft - Norwich;
1Z74 15.26 Norwich - Acle - Great Yarmouth;
1Z76 16.12 Great Yarmouth - Reedham (reverse) - Lowestoft;
1Z77 17.25 Lowestoft - Wensum Curve - Ely (reverse) - Peterborough - Leicester (reverse) - Nottingham (reverse) - Derby.
Having abandoned the plan to photograph this at Haddiscoe (as a result of the Reedham Ferry being suspended for a few hours due to high water levels caused by the weather), I had a leisurely drive over here (with a couple of short stops). I drove through patches of blue sky and thick cloud, and as I turned off the A47 at Rings End I could see sunlight on the wind turbines next to Whitemoor Yard. The sun went behind a big cloud before I arrived, but there were at least two levels of cloud and the lower one was moving quickly; as the train approached March (where it was booked to go along the Down Reception Siding as well as set down passengers at the station), it looked like the sun would hit a hole... and it did! But the train was going slowly, and we wondered if the sun would stay in the hole. As can be seen, the scene remained lit until after the train had passed under the bridge, but then died within a few seconds - disappointingly for some other photographers waiting just to the west.
But I was very pleased I'd bothered to take a longer route home!

The Branch Line Society 'Clyde-Forth' railtour is seen at Menstrie on the freight only branch from Cambus Junction to Glenochil Distillery and yeast factory at Menstrie. The tour train was formed of a 2x3-car DMU's with two hybrid sets. Here 120/101 3-car set 53651+59124+53736 leads with 3-car class 116/120 set 53673+59374+53090 trailing.
This line was once a passenger branch from Cambus Junction near Alloa to Alva but lost its service on 01/11/1954. It was retained as a freight branch initially to Alva but the section beyond Glenochil Distilley to Alva closed on 24/02/1964. The branch to Menstrie was retained for inbound molasses traffic to DCL Glenochil Yeast but largely only generated wagon load flows. The branch didn't officially close until 1994 but it had become a victim of the demise of the Speedlink wagon load network disbanded by BR in July 1991 and fell into disuse thereafter.

Dalmally station plays host to two DMU's on a route at the time which was pretty well solid class 37's on passenger trains and freight. On the left is the 'Mexican Bean' DMU set 104 325 working train 2Y96 the SuO 14.00 Oban to Crianlarich. This was a summer only dated BR ScotRail / Highlands & Islands Tourist Board sponsored service using the DMU as a self propelled observation saloon train. On the right is Ayr allocated DMU set 107 440 working the Branch Line Society's 'Firth of Lorn' railtour which had originated from Glasgow Central and was a six car formation with DMU set 101 338 out of sight behind. The highlight of the tour being a traversal of the freight only branch to Crianlarich Low Level on the former Caledonian Railway route to Dunblane via Balquhidder.
