Direct Rail Services 37423 'Spirit of the Lakes' + DB Cargo 66053 with 66044 on the back working 1Z37 14/34 Carlisle to York Branch Line Society 'The Summer Syphons Day 1 of 4' toward Ais Gill summit on 2 July 2021. The tour was running 100 minutes late at this point following the failure of 37419 'Carl Haviland 1954-2012' at Culgaith following a radiator problem.

The tour was pathed behind a local passenger service, which had only just departed, hence the low speed.
66198 powers up past the Guibal Fan House built to ventilate iron ore drift mines entering from the cliff edges from Hunt Cliff. Returning from Skinningrove with the Branch Line Society's Lackenby Looper railtour on the evening of Saturday the 9th of July 2022, the train will next reverse at Grangetown to go onto the Redcar Foreign Ore Terminal line having already visited Hartlepool pipe mill and the Lackenby grid. This par of locos replaced 66010 and 60092 during a tea time break in Tees Yard for the return back to Doncaster. Perhaps the Teesside DB staff did not want to let go of a freshly outshopped 66010 and the class 60..

The whole tour, organised by the Branch Line Society in conjunction with Southern, ran as:

The tour fare was £62.60 (reflecting a pair of 313s) for adults and £31.30 for accompanied children.
After doing a going-away shot of the Newhaven-bound leg, I walked further down the field to where the vegetation was lower - to vary the shot, but also make it easier to photograph something on the nearer line.
I had time for a test shot of the service train in front of the special (a pair of 377s, one a three-car and the other a four-car - the service was pairs of units as a result of football at Falmer, but was 377s because there weren't enough 313s available), but came close to not getting this... I'd just replaced my HDMI cables, and the new one is not quite as tight a fit in the camera as the old: as I extended the final section, my screen went blank as the cable was jolted slightly. I just had time to lower the camera, push the cable back in properly, and carefully raise the pole again - trying not to shake it too much when it got to the slightly tighter bit on the last section! I shall investigate a method of holding the cable in place, as it happened more than once during the day.
After this, I walked back to the car (bumping into a group of photters who'd been further down) and called it a day. This is very likely to be the last sequence of pictures I take of 313s in operation.

It is not often that a railtour traverses the East Lancashire Railway but the BLS ran the 'Wrexham & Lancashire' tour over it on June 12th 2010.
Originating from Crewe with CFPS 40145 via Dee Marsh to Wrexham then visited the Weaste branch before accessing the ELR at Castleton. I took a couple of pics at Eccles and the ski slope approaching Bury before taking this at 17.26 emerging from the Burrs cutting on its way to Rawtenstall.

The charter provided the first ever visit of a Class 50 to the most easterly station on the network. The New Cut can be seen on the left - a man-made channel created to provide a shorter route from Lowestoft to Norwich by boat. The route opened in 1833, but was soon superseded by the faster rail line which opened in 1847.
