Sarah Français' Alpha Project was performed at the Second Nature festival in Aix-en-Provence (France). Music was played live by Greg Lion and Rorre Ecco (Beat Pleasure).
The brainwaves of the dancers were monitored thanks to EMOTIV's EPOC neuroheadset and transformed in real-time in digital visual art projected while the dancers were performing. It offered a new dimension to the artistic performance allowing dancers to express themselves with their bodies and their brains.

Megatron explains his intentions to the Joker and Zartan lets out a cold, dark laughter... that is, until the Joker laughs as well.
Joker: 'Oh, is that all? And here I thought this was supposed to be scary!'
Megatron: 'Oh, it will be, fleshling. As our Brainwave Scanner, modified with Decepticon technology combs through your primitive grey matter to discover the cause of your unique control over Bombshell's cerebro-shell and reveals the mind control secrets that will rid my cerebo-circuitry of the abominable Galvatron forever, you will experience unimaginable pain and agony!'
Joker: 'Oh, that sounds good! Can we do it now? I'm tingly all over!'
Zartan ignores the Joker's mocking comments as the Dreadnoks chain the Clown Prince of Crime to the malevolent Brainwave Scanner. Once the connections are complete to the Joker's head, the Dreadnoks retreat, leaving Zartan one-on-one with the Joker.
Joker: 'This isn' gonna work, you know. All the theatrics; the heavy chains, the scary lighting, the intimidating machinery. You see, I want you to do this. I'm looking forward to it. But, I gotta warn you, you might not like what you find!'

Subjects are only able to trigger the camera using their brainwaves once they achieve a certain level of relaxation. At a pre-determined level of alpha activity (relaxation) a signal was sent to the camera to fire via the MindWave device, creating a unique self portrait. Sound by Chris Watson was used as a form of neurofeedback, decreasing in volume as subject became more relaxed. For more info see

Busy day, so I bullied Andrew into letting me take his photo in the ad break for Grand Designs. This was very low light, so I was pleased it turned out quite clear.
I forgot to add any commetary last night, so I'll let you eavesdrop on a teenage conversation from tonight:
Me (phoning from the station to tell Andrew I'd be late because MrH and I were going shopping):
"Do you need anything, Andrew?"
A: "Oh, yeah, I forgot. I need past papers for English. I need to have them for tomorrow."
Me: "Past papers? At this time? I don't think I'll be able to get them. Do you really need them for tomorrow?"
A: "Er, yeah, we had to have them by tomorrow. Tomorrow's the deadline. It doesn't matter if you can't get them."
Me (flapping now, because I can't let him go to school without past papers): "I'll see what we can do. If I can't get them tonight, tell your teacher that I'll get them tomorrow."
A few minutes later, I had a brainwave and checked the SQA website to see if they had them online. They did, so I phoned Andrew.
Me: "You can download past papers from the SQA website."
A: "Yeah, I know."
Me: *silence*
Me:" So you could just download them? You don't need me to buy them tonight?"
A: "Yeah"
Me: "Well, why don't you download some tonight and I'll get you the proper book tomorrow?"
A: "I dont actually need them tomorrow because we are doing a play."

Eleanor Dare (University of Derby) presents 'Burning Down Memory', an investigation into the limits of symbolic representation and its relationship to cultural memory. The images document a cybernetic loop in which the artist was sometimes electrocuted, subject to her aniety levels. By wearing both EEG and Galvanic skin sensors the more intense the artist's anxiety the more damage was inflicted on both her, through electrocution, and a digital image of a South London bombsite. The image is of a building in New Cross where 168 people were killed by a German V bomb during World War II. The site is now an Iceland supermarket. The images show Eleanor Dare being electrocuted while attached to a basic EEG machine. The EEG picks up electronic signals from the artist's frontal lobes, the intensity of these signals is then fed into a virtual 'fire' which permanantly destroys digital images by taking away pixles. The more intense the brainwaves, the wider the area of destruction. The maquette is of a proposed 'interactive' war memorial in which members of the public can volunteer to risk being blown up by a road-side device, therefore, truly relating to the anxiety and trauma of war while experiencing an authentic statistical risk dependent on the gender, age, and social class of real war casualities.

A Collaboration between the Culver Center of the Arts
And The UCR Experimental Acoustic Research Studio (EARS)
Teatro Dello Spirito is a live musical collaboration between sound composer Luca Forcucci and trans-galactic cellist Michael Kott, whose group is called 2 humans & The Cosmos. The duo performs by integrating found sounds recorded from the Amazon forest, abandoned coal mines or urban environments, with hyper-intergalactic cello and brainwave interfaces. Their style pushes the boundaries of electroacoustic music by an integration of improvisation techniques.
