Creating works of art through the pure power of thought? What one or two artistically gifted individuals are still dreaming of has already become reality in the "BRAINPALACE". At the Ars Electronica Center, a team of scientists and artists is demonstrating how synchronous brainwaves can be translated into transformative art objects with the help of neurofeedback.
The Fraunhofer exhibition series "Science and Art in Dialogue" opens a research laboratory in the museum with the new research staging BRAINPALACE - BRAINPATTERNS. In a spatial installation with light and sound compositions, visitors to the Ars Electronica Center will be presented with their own brain data live and, for the first time, it will be possible for a group of people to interact mentally with the installation.
Every perception triggers a fireworks display of electrical signals in our brains. The room-filling light and sound installation BRAINPALACE, by the Munich artist Tatjana Busch, offers an impressive experience with its unique aesthetics and design. Through the new "Science-Art-Research" concept, developed by Erika Mondria, inner processes of our mental space, are put in a completely new light of the overall staging.

You might think it strange to find an orchid/cyclamen plant growing in a pot. But the story is – the other day I had bought some fresh cut orchids when I found that one of them was snapped off. It was closed tight and looked as if it was on it’s last legs. I would usually stick any broken off flowers in a small glass of water and put it on the kitchen windowsill.
However, I had a brainwave. I cut of the end of the broken stalk and pushed it into the earth of the cyclamen plant. I then watered it but thought it would just flop over and die. However there must have been enough moisture in the earth to feed the orchid and so out it opened and bloomed beautifully amongst the cyclamen flowers.
A bit of advice, if you get a broken flower amongst your fresh cut flowers, cut off the dead stalk, stick it in one of your plants, give it a water and you will have a beautiful display for at least 7-10 days.
I know I go on a bit with some of my explanations and stories. Hope I don't bore you.

Self-distortion interrogates the mediating effects of technology on identity construction. According to participants' brainwave patterns (which are a by-product of the level of participants' meditative state), the glitch image on the monitor will gradually become more or less clear. By using bone conduction technology and transforming the brainwaves of participants into real-time sound waves, this work enables participants to hear/feel their own meditative sounds. This produces a new form of sensory experience for individual brainwave observation.

Theatre and Performance Practice students from University of Salford present 'It's Complicated': a series of monologues and duologues exploring the complications of life in a changing world. The show focuses on topics, experiences, and relationships that tend to go unspoken in everyday life, such as grief and disability.
The idea of 'Under Construction' was the brainwave of its directors and principal writers, Will Main (Rochdale) and Elizabeth Todd (Handforth) who wanted to test out new ideas before showing them to the public. The first show of Under Construction was staged at the New Adelphi Studio Theatre, Salford where the audience was invited to feedback. The Greater Manchester Fringe performance is its first showing to the general public.

Empty brandy bottle box and empty liquid soap dispenser. These were in the garage, being saved until I came up with a brainwave use for them. This has never happened so they’ve gone in the recycling.
Empty brandy bottle. Well, it is now... there was a little bit left in the bottom so hubby decluttered it for me! Bottle has gone in the glass recycling.
Old sewing machine. I got this from a Freecycler back in the summer, and have been using it until one day in mid-seam the drive belt flew off! I have looked into getting a new one but because the machine is so old, and because I got a new one for my birthday, this one will be going to the tip (to be recycled hopefully).
Calorie counter book from 2005. Don’t use this anymore and I expect the calories have all gone up in foods now, due to inflation!
Empty ink cartridge. Changed this morning, this will be recycled when I next get to Rymans.
Various bobbins and cottons and sewing bits. I’ve got 3 sewing machines still and so I’ve got tons of sewing bits and bobbins. These are going to Oxfam.
Some sort of massager.... it’s battery run and I don’t have any batteries, wouldn’t use it anyway. Off to Oxfam it goes.
Various old receipts and other bits of paper that need shredding. These will go into the shredder.
Pair of black sequinned mules. These were given to me in a load of clothes last year and have been lying in our study ever since. I might put them on Ebay, but they’ll probably go to Oxfam.
A tub of iron tablets that I don’t need any more as I’m no longer anaemic. I’ll take these back to the pharmacy at the doctors.
It’s amazing how many things I’ve found just laying around, that we walk over and past every day. With a bit of luck I’ll be able to list the big stuff tomorrow, that will really clear up some space.

Brainscore and Brainloop explore a complete fusion between a user and a digital universe by synchronizing an electromagnetic and electric field.
In the Brainscore project two operators act in a virtual reality environment through their avatars. The task is achieved by triggering a command on a console through a system based on the operator's brainwave signals (neurofeedback technology) and an eye movement tracking system. The Brainloop performance is instead a performance platform that utilises a Brain Computer Interface (BCI), which allows a subject to operate a device merely by imagining specific motor commands; a neural synapse occurs but the actual movement is blocked at the corticospinal level.
On this postcard I finally had the brainwave to turn the writing into a packing tape transfer - I like the effect much better. This one is still awaiting a home.
