This image features a 4 km-wide impact crater that formed on the rim of an older 15 km-wide crater on Mars. The linear ridge to the top of the image is the rim of the older crater, which itself intersects the rim of an even larger, 40 km-wide crater.

To the left of the image, so-called ‘brain coral terrain’ is visible – so-named because of its likeness in appearance to the ridges on the surface of the human brain. It appears to sit on the floor of the largest crater, although this deposit may be related to the lineated fill that lines the floor of the 15-km crater to the right of the image. Both types of terrain are associated with ice-rich material found near the boundary between Mars’ northern plains and its southern highlands.

Information held in images like these – best viewed with red-blue ‘3D’ glasses to give the impression of depth – help scientists make a detailed study of the order in which the many interacting layers were formed, thus piecing together the history of complex regions.

The image was created from a stereo pairs taken by the Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System (CaSSIS) onboard the ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter on 7 February 2019. It is centred at 32.9 ºN/13.7ºE.

Brain Forest Quipu is a multi-part installation at Tate Modern made up of sculpture, sound, music and video created by Cecilia Vicuña. It is an ancient South American recording and communication system made from knotted threads. At the centre of Brain Forest Quipu are two sculptures that hang 27 metres from the ceiling. They are woven together using a range of organic materials, including found objects, unspun wool, plant fibres, rope and cardboard to evoke the look of bleached-out trees and ghostly forms.

I’ve waited nine years for this moment

For reasons unknown to us, Nex and Stringer would never see another release after 2012, despite two full waves of sets they could easily have been integrated into. With Bulk growing increasingly orange and Stringer’s lack of unified color scheme, my belief is that Nex and Stringer underperformed in BREAKOUT as the two cheaper sets of the second wave and were cut from the lineup for the remainder of Hero Factory’s run.

Until today

With a helmet commissioned from @galva_nize_ I present BRAIN ATTACK Stringer. He is of the same height class as Stormer and Surge and is equipped with a Hero Sword. He also has a scanning apparatus affixed to his arm for performing sonar sweeps and picking up thermal signatures. I went for a more hefty build as Stringer deserves the extra muscle. I have also tried to combine his blue BREAKOUT color scheme and his orange 1.0 colors to create something that honors both.

I have taken great lengths to keep the design language of the other BRAIN ATTACK sets:

- Melee weapons

- Silver or Gunmetal secondary color

- Transparent armor piece

- Hero Core Clamp and Visor

This build uses a shoulder configuration first used by Beardly_Designs. I don’t think anything else draws inspiration from other MOCs but, if you feel it does, let me know!

Building this MOC is honestly a dream come true for me. I’m glad I can finally give Stringer the form he deserves.

If his eyes are going like that, can you imagine how his brain shakes at this velocity? :)

I think this may be a rather old specimen of Leafy Brain fungus (Tremella foliacea). It's the first time I have knowingly seen this fungus even though it is supposed to be widesread and common in the UK!

Leafy Brain is a jelly fungus - tremella, the generic name means trembling - a reference to the wobbly-jelly-like structure of fungi within this grouping. The specific epithet foliacea means folded or wrinkled like leaves. Initially disc-like, the fruitbody develops irregular convoluted folds with rounded margins. Individual fruitbodies grow to between 2 and 20cm across. The leaf-like clusters of folded lobes are usually reddish-brown or pale pinkish-brown but sometimes reddish orange; gelatinous when damp, turning dark and shriveling to an inconspicuous fraction of its former size during very dry weather.

This jelly fungus grows on dead timber of broadleaf trees and conifers. It is not the dead timber that Tremella foliacea consumes but rather a kind of bracket or crust fungus that itself has been feeding on the wood. Tremella foliacea must therefore be classed as a parasitic rather than saprobic species. In Britain (and probably elsewhere) it attacks Hairy Curtain Crust Stereum hirsutum. It can be found throughout the year, but it is most visible in autumn and winter.

Size does matter!

On the last morning of my outing deep in the heart of the Paria/ Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, I was treated to some really impressive skies and light. I earned it as much of my two and half week trip to the the plateau was nothing but bright blue skies.

Do visit them...both are by very talented, budding photographers.

And about the 'just got nudged out' part, well not really. If there was a prize for Worst Entry, I'd have won it hands down. But hey, there wasn't such a prize, so to the ignorant world, I got just nudged out of first and second place. :)

About this snap, it was taken to the theme 'BITS Incognito'. Increased contrast quite a lot to get the deep colours. No other post processing.

Brain coral competing for space on the reef.

In a funk.... two steps backward, one step forward, spinning my wheels, going nowhere...fast.

Ok, you continue on with the analogies (or metaphors, or whatever they are)...you get the picture. This is probably a good representation

of the inside of my head (as well as most of my closets).

I knew things were going downhill yesterday when I woke up and realized that I really DON’T

have a date with Johnny Depp (yeah, and I have NO EXPLANATION for where THAT even came

from)...but I can tell you that that was probably the LEAST weird of my dreams and probably the

least disturbing. It’s OK, though, I’ve come to terms with that and I really had nothing to wear anyway.

I'm going to attempt to pick something and go do it. (key word here being "ATTEMPT")

An advanced MRI scan of a human brain showing neural networks.

Humans are adaptable beings. Wear glasses continuously that turn your view of the world upside-down and inside two weeks your brain will have adapted – everything will seem normal again.

Researchers suspect that astronauts’ brains adapt to living in weightlessness by using previously untapped links between neurons. As the astronauts learn to float around in their spacecraft, left–right and up–down become second nature as these connections are activated.

To confirm this theory, up to 16 astronauts will be put through advanced MRI scanners before and after their flights to study any changes in their brain structure. A control group from Antwerp, Belgium, will undergo the same scans for further comparison.

In parallel, a study is being performed on volunteers aboard aircraft flights that offer 20 seconds of weightlessness at a time.

Stranger #67 – Marine

I saw Marine walking with a friend of hers in the street, I approached them and asked Marine

Marine is studying psychology, if I remember correctly she has a degree in biology and decided to study psychology after her degree in biology. “What we’ve studied so far is general psychology, cognitive psychology, we’re learning how the brain works. 5-10 years from now? Why not have my own practice? My neuropsychology practice, or work in an association, or in a hospital. There are a lot of associations which hire neuropsychologists. I’d love working in one which helps women. My advice to myself? It’s not a waste of time, believe in yourself and go for it!”

Thank you very much Marine!

This is my 62nd submission to the Human Family Group. To view more street portraits and stories visit The Human Family Flickr Group page

Merci beaucoup Marine!

Katzenhirn = Cat's Brain. There's actually a village called Katzenhirn. Imagine how strange it is when someone says " I live in Cat's Brain".

[Shot on Ilford Delta 100 @400 (35 mm Gelatin Silver) with Zenit 11 and Helios-44M-2 lens. Developed by myself in a reversed process and pushed by 2]

Many of you remember the iconic Mirthmobile from, "Wayne's World," fame. The AMC Pacer featured in that film came complete with a licorice dispenser and a wicked soundtrack by Queen. I think that was actually the first time I heard, "Bohemian Rhapsody".

This Pacer doesn't have a licorice dispenser but it's fully tricked out with all the 'coolest' features for this month's Lugnuts challenge, "Fire and Ice." There is a monster sound system in the hatch accompanied by 20" LCD flat panel TV and a PS3 console. The stock motor has been swapped out for an inline 6 cylinder 4.0 liter Jeep engine. 18" rims front and rear complete the package for one icy cool ride.

Oh wait, what's that? I forgot to mention something? Ah yes, of course. What 1975 Pacer would be complete without lambo doors? The Pacer was remarkably ahead of its time actually, despite making the list of the 50 worst cars of all time. Heralded as the first wide-body compact car, the Pacer also featured a passenger door that was 4 inches longer than the driver side door for easier access to the back seat. This is nicely highlighted by the scissor door kit on the latest creation from Proudlove Design Studio; "Brain Freeze!"

Be sure to check out, "Hot Flash," from the twisted mind of Lino Martins, highlighting a 'hot' feature of another car that made the, "50 Worst," list.
