Picked these up today from a second hand shop in Wellington. Some great soft drink brands, plus the centre piece would have to be the Joe 90 cap, but is it an NZ issue?
Look, I made a bottlecap pincushion - here it is, step by step...
I remember making one a few years ago, and it struck me, it would look cute with a patchwrk flower on the top.
And so I made a patchwork flower from ½inch hexies.
Stitched it to a circle of thin corduroy.
Glued another circle of corduroy to a orange juice bottle with my glue gun. Love my power tool :-). Folded the excess fabric into the centre of the cap.
Then - a running stitch around the perimeter of the first circle.
Drew the string and stuffed the 'bag' firmly with polyester fluff. Held the little bag of fluff tight to the bottle cap, as I stitched around it. And voila - a muffin :-)
Then I made a strap, 1 cm wide - and cut two snippets of velcro. Placed the muffin in the middle of the strap, stitched it to the strap. Measured the length of the strap around my wrist - and then stitched the velcro to the ends of the straps - one on the inside of the strap, the other on the outside.
I foldede the ends of the strap under the velcro.
And there it was - a patchworkmuffin - or, a bottlecap pincushion to go!

Most common question: Did you personally drink all those bottles of beer? No. I would unabashedly put out cup at parties I attended. More importanly though, I enlisted a fleet of family and friends. They saved them in their kitchens and brought them back from trips. When combined with my own travels it means I have caps from six countries and (if I've counted correctly) twelve states (including DC).
Made from a recycled bottlecap (about 2" diameter), felt, "new" thread rescued from the thrift store, and polyfil. Oh, and pin sprinkles!
Please check out my profile for more information on my pincushions. :)
For the Superswappers "Favourite Colours" swap. It is 1.5" tall and 1.4" in diameter.
I got instructions from verybigjen's Flickr tutorial www.flickr.com/photos/verybigjen/sets/72057594099768007 and her article here www.craftstylish.com/item/945/how-to-make-pretty-pincushions.
This little pincushion is made from a recycled bottlecap as its base, acrylic felt, some "rescued" embroidery thread, and lots of polyfil! (Even the nubs are individually stuffed.)
It reminds me of a ladybug katamari!

This a trio of bottlecap pincushions that I made for a "Bottlecap Pincushion" swap on Swap-Bot. The interior base has a bottlecap from either a 2-liter plastic bottle or individual serving of pop/soda.
The person I sent them to likes red, orange, and yellow so I thought I would include each of these colors on the pincushions.
The base of the pincushion has the third color that isn't the top or side.
I hand-embroidered the pincushions together using the blanket stitch. Each pincushion is stuffed with wool from sheep that I raised.
