I've been in many battles, and won them all. Here are just a few of my many Fuente Family cigar band trophies.
I have wanted a hand turned mill for a while.
one day when making a dump run I saw an idea in the making.
an old rotor off the vehicle lined up just so and fit over the top of another.
some grooves cut int he manner of a stone or steel mill for grinding and I was well on my way to having a working mill for grinding down grain and other things.
Of course it needed cleaning (brake shoes are toxic in the long run, and made from nasty stuff) and the shaping of the grooves proved a bit more involved than the first round of cutting a single set of grooves for work.
but several attempts later on getting the grooves to sit in one track (the inside of the rotors were properly cut for this task) and adding a handle with a bone grip to help turn it and I found it works quite well.
as noted, I had to clean them well.
then after cleaning I set them to use grinding down walnut hulls.
after that and another good washing, I attempted to grind Acorns, and then cattail for starch.
Last I attempted some pearled barley.
It worked quite well for all of the above.
I also took video of the mill in action as well as made a stump for gathering what the mill ground down.
That was another project using a chainsaw, some sandpaper and a lot of patience.
But the details will be withheld for another day.
and likely another picture.
