About five years ago, CalTrans recruited a fleet of old comet cars to help ease capacity on the San Joaquin trains. As apart of the change, a small fleet of Cabbage Cars arrived, painted in the original CalTrain colors. Catching this set, and the cabbage cars, at work has been a goal every time I'm near the San Joaquin's path. However, starting in 2020, new single level passenger cars will arrive. It's safe to assume, once the new cars arrive, the novel comet and cabbage cars will disappear from the rails. So, get them while you can!

CSX autorack train Q241 turns the corner at Deshler, OH from the Garrett Sub to the Toledo Sub, pulling under the B&O color position light signal at North Deshler. This cantilever signal bridge still guards the interlocking today, but like many others before it, will soon be replaced with modern PTC equipped signals.
Brightline BLF605 passes the signals named Ft. Lauderdale, near Croissant Park as it slows for the station stop at Ft. Lauderdale proper. It is on simulated service from Miami and will pick up pax in the station for WPB. It's a miracle that these trains can still be framed with these signals, as all others of their kind on the corridor have been taken out of service. What also is a miracle was that the inbound cloud cover held out long enough for this shot, and afterwards we lost the sun for the rest of the day.
Borrowed a Canon T3i for this shoot. I must say I liked the camera however, I think I'm still going to go with the D7K.

SCOUT: "Daddy? Daddy?"
DADDY: "Yes, little Scout?"
SCOUT: "Daddy, may I please borrow your bearphone?"
DADDY: "Scout, why do you need to borrow my mobile phone?"
SCOUT: "Oh! Well you see it's really quite awful, Daddy! Peter, you know, mijn beste vriend?"
DADDY: "Yes, I know your best friend Peter. Is there something wrong with him?" *Puts hand to mouth in concern.* "He hasn't fallen off his stilts again has he?"
SCOUT: "Oh no Daddy! It's much worse than that!"
DADDY: "Goodness! Whatever has happened?"
SCOUT: "Well you see, Mummy Marian brought home some delicious sweet doughnuts for Peter and Oleg."
DADDY: "Well, I don't see what is so terrible about that, Scout."
SCOUT: "The treats are in the shape of the Cookie Monster! They have big scary eyes and a big angry mouth, just like the Big Bad Wolf in Little Red Riding Hood!"
DADDY: "Oh! I see! Peter is scared by the Cookie Monster doughnuts. Is that right?"
SCOUT: "Yes Daddy! You are so clever to work that out."
DADDY: "I've had lots of practice understanding how bears feel, what they like and what can scare them."
SCOUT: "So that's why I need to borrow your bearphone, so I can ring Peter to console him and tell him that things will be alright. I love Peter sooo much and he is mijn beste vriend! I must help him!"
DADDY: "Oh of course you must! I will put the kettle on to make some tea and then I will give you my phone so you can speak to Peter."
SCOUT: "Oh thank you Daddy!"
DADDY: *Makes tea and sets out tea things for Scout. He gives Scout his mobile phone.*
SCOUT: *Dials Mummy Marian's number in Holland.* "Hullo? Hullo is that Mummy Marian?" *Waits for reply.* "Hullo Mummy Marian, it's me, Scout from Australia. You know, Peter's beste vriend? May I please speak to Peter right now?" *Waits for reply.* "Oh thank you Mummy Marian!"
MUMMY MARIAN: *Puts Peter onto the bearphone.*
SCOUT: "Hullo Peter, mijn beste vriend! Please don't cry! Ik hou zoooo veel van je, mijn beste vriend! I see that the big googly eyes and big mouth of the Cookie Monster have scared you, like the Big Bad Wolf does in Little Red Riding Hood. Now, it's quite alright to be scared, but the doughnut is just food and it is safe to eat it. Now, I know that you will still be scared. Don't worry, I would be scared too. So, I have a way that you can eat the doughnut, forget that you are scared and really enjoy the treat that Mummy Marian brought home for you. Would you like to know what it is?" *Waits for a response.* "Well, when I have to eat something I don't like, like prunes! Yuck!" *Sticks out cute little pink bear tongue.* "Or when I have to eat the head of the chocolate bunny, which makes me sad, I just close my eyes very tightly and take a bite, and then another bite and I think of wonderful things like rainbows and unicorns and you and I playing hide-and-seek in the garden and Little Red Riding Hood being rescued by the Woodsman." *Smiles at these thoughts.* "Then I can taste the sweet and delicious chocolate and I don't feel sad! It's like eating happily ever after faerie tales. It isn't quite as good when I close my eyes and eat prunes, because they still taste a bit yucky." *Sticks out cute little pink bear tongue.* "But those doughnuts will be sweet, and you will taste the sweetness and then you won't be scared! Try it and see!" *Waits for a reply.* "See mijn beste vriend! I told you! You are smiling, and that makes me soooo happy! Now you can enjoy your treat from Mummy Marian! And whilst you close your eyes and eat it, you can think of me and all the berenkusjes en knuffels that I am sending just for you! Ik hou zoveel van je mijn beste vriend Peter! Veel berenkusjes en knuffels voor mijn beste vriend Peter, van Scout!"
My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558...) and their Mummy (www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/) . Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter is scared by the Cookie Monster themed doughnuts that Mummy Marian bought he and Oleg as a treat, poor little bear. (You can see the picture here www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/51130756600/in/datepos..., or in the first comment below). So Scout is being Peter's best friend as he should, and is making Peter feel better!
This beautiful nursery tea set is made by the Shell China company in the 1920s. It features six cups, saucers and plates (not all the set is being used today) as well as a teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl, gravy boat, serving dishes and lidded tureens all gilt and featuring different nursery rhymes including: "The Queen of Hearts", "Ride a Cock-Horse to Banbury Cross", "Goosey-Goosey Gander", "Sing a Song of Sixpence", "Jack and Jill", "There was a Little Man who had a Little Gun" and "To Market to Market to Buy a Fat Pig". The set was a gift to me from a close friend. There are also doll (bear) sized tea spoons which are sterling silver salt spoons, and the spoon in the "Ride a Cock-Horse to Banbury Cross" sugar bowl is an Eighteenth Century sterling silver mustard spoon. There is also a doll (bear) sized tea spoon which is a sterling silver salt spoon.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
Borrow pits are pits that are left when material has been dug for use elsewhere, in this case embankments used to protect now-abandoned ammunition bunkers. There are 29 flooded pits surrounding the embankments in several copses on Yardley Chase, near Yardley Hastings, Northamptonshire.

Ireland
From my time in Ireland last November. I was walking with my friend to explore an abandoned monastery, we had no plan of shooting anything but I began taking pictures with him leading the way down the hill. When I got settled back at home I started to turn one of the random images into a concept. Itβs a very different way to work for me when usually I have a concept first but none the less Iβm happy with the result. Sometimes the destination is unknown but if you go with your instincts youβll find what you didnβt know you were looking for.
With all the Heathrow based 747's of Virgin now gone, it's only a matter of time before we see the end of the line at Manchester. G-VGAL 'Jersey Girl' will soon be celebrating her 16th birthday and is seen arriving literally minutes before sunrise at Manchester Airport.

Eis o Something Borrowed, terceiro - e meu preferido - vidrinho da coleção Best of Luck, by Dany Vianna.

βBertie, there you are Iβve been looking for you.β Said Sky.
βIβve been hiding as Posh has the grumps again. He says that someone has borrowed some of his honey without asking.β
βReally? How shocking, I wonder who would do a thing like that?β
βI canβt think, but anyway he is a bit grumpy for it was a jar that he was saving to mature.β
βWhy would he want it to manure Bertie? It would taste double yuck, and then some.β
βNot manure Sky, I said mature. That means get old and taste even better.β
βOh! How boring. Anyway, Bertie I have been looking for you as I have news, worrying news.β
βReally Sky, what is that?β
βNow I was just listening to the manβs noise machine that he listens to sometimes and normally I agree it is boring and not worth the electrickery. Today though it was different. There was a hooman on there talking about honey and saying how it was in short supply, what with the buzzy things being sound asleep for the winter and not having any flowers to go to for the ingredients.β
βNothing new there Sky, that happens every year.β
βNo, this is different as there is more. The noise thingy was saying that because of the shortage, machines were going to begin making sympathetic honey. Now I donβt know about you, but I would think that every self-respecting bear would frown upon such an idea and refuse to eat it.β
βWow! Iβve never heard of sympathetic honey Sky; I wonder what it means?β
βWell, I listened some more and it said instead of buzzy things making it they could make honey with machines and cut the buzzy things out so they donβt have to work and can sleep all year round.β
βThat isnβt nice Sky, the buzzy things wouldnβt like that.β
βNo, I know and us bears wonβt like that either. So, well Iβve had this idea where I can help you out and Iβll do the same for Posh and any other bear for that matter.β
βReally? That sounds promising Sky, so what is this plan?β
βIβm going to offer to be an βofficient tasterβ for everyone. So, every time you open a jar, I get a spoon and take a spoonful out and just make sure it is the real stuff and not this sympathetic stuff.β
βThat is very kind of you Sky, but do you think that bears will need your help on this?β
βOf course they do Bertie, no bear wants to taste anything but proper honey and as I am something of an expert because of all the honey I eat, I feel sure I can find any bad honey and the bear wonβt have tummy ache.β
βI see, well here is Posh, I wonder if he has heard of this sympathetic honey?β Said Bertie.
βWhat is all this about? What are you two on about?β
Sky explained and told Posh all about his plans to become an βofficient tasterβ and all about the βsympathetic honeyβ he had heard about on the noise box.
βOkay, Sky do you think it possible the hooman on the noise box said βsynthetic honeyβ?β
βMaybe, but he clearly got it wrong and it is so rude to correct hoomans, bears and even noise boxes, so Bertie says.β
βYes, well, perhaps. Also Sky, you canβt be an βofficient tasterβ, I think you mean an βofficial tasterβ.β
βNo Posh, Iβm very officient at tasting honey, you ask anyone.β
βNo Sky, you mean efficient not officient.β Corrected Posh.
βYouβre right Bertie, he is in a bad mood. Anyway, not to worry you just let me know when your next batch of honey comes in and Iβll begin tasting very officientlyβ. By the way Posh, I have made a start on your stash of honey and youβll be happy to know that it all tasted very yummy so far. Oh well, back to work, no rest for us officient tasters.β

Black-capped chickadee
by Francis Stella
A friend of mine, a friend to all,
We named him for his cheerful call
And the handsome little cap of coal
He wears on neighborhood patrol.
And when Iβm in his woods heβll fly
To some low branch I happen by,
Though if he were just somewhat bolder
I think heβd light upon my shoulder.
He offers me a friendly greeting
Then hops about throughout our meeting;
In his white and gray and sable
That tiny bird is always able
To raise my spirits when Iβm low
And force my hurried step to slow.
And on the topic of the day
Thereβs so much that he comes to say!
Though what that topic really isβ
Well, the topicβs only ever his;
For though Iβd like to say I heard
Something from this little bird,
Iβve yet to understand a word,
And I really would agree
With those whoβd shared his company
And aptly named him chickadee.
A friend of mine, a friend from youth,
But friend as well to fact and truth,
For when Iβm passing by his wood
And ask if she is gone for good,
Ask if sheβll come back to me,
I hear him answer, plaintively:
No, never.
No, never.

Please do not send any invitations at this time. I'm so far behind that I'm going need a month of Flickr time to update all my invitations and that would be when I finish my project. I appreciate your personal comments though. I'm going to quote this phrase from a dear friend of mine "Do not add your picture or Flickr river link with your comment, it will be removed"

There is no story like the story of the GG1.
They were concieved in the years immediately preceeding World War 2 (1934) and built by PRR and GE at the railroads Altoona shops up until 1943. 139 of these motors were the backbone of PRR's electric fleet for over 30 years. Arguably they were the most successful example of electric traction in US railroad history.
While most of the products of Altoona were gone long before my time ,the GG1 was the last survivng testimony to the "Standard Railroad of The World" as the PRR called itself in its heyday.
Surviving the PRR , its successor the PC, and even into the Conrail era ,the GG1s were running on borrowed time by the late 1970's .
Two of them pass the remains of North Elizabeth Station on a sweltering day in 1977 with a TOFC train , pushing a hot wind ahead that smells of burning sand and balkalite.
Their labors are almost at an end. Stress fractures in their cast frames, PCPs in their transformers ,and the transfer of the NEC to Amtrak will combine to kill them after 40 years of faithful service...
Within 4 years these mighty motors will be done for good.

Borrowed Breath is a 2.05 m tall bronze sculpture by Laurence Edwards. it is placed on the South Beach in Lowestoft as part of the First Light Festival.
back in 2005, I took a ride over to Fon du Lac in an effort to get shots of the remaining SD45's on hand. While none of the pictures I took were all that good, I did get one unobstructed, full-light shot of the #7498.
Weβre here are looking for borrowed/overdue books. Well this isnβt a book but itβs borrowed and whatβs worse we donβt know from who. Ages ago someone told us we needed to see this film. We borrowed it and then a while later we moved to US. This came with us and itβs been over 6 years and we have no clue who it belongs to. Worse still we havenβt even watched it!!!
Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it.

A CSX coal load gets underway at Hinton, WV as it passes a pair of classic C&O signals. With the new signals in place, I'd imagine their days are numbered.
She had been born to cradle other people's children, wear their hand-me-down clothing, eat their leftovers, live on borrowed happiness and grief, grow old beneath other people's roofs,
die one day in her miserable little room in the far courtyard in a bed that did not belong to her, and be buried in a common grave in the public cemetery.β

Try on of my ex's skirt & blouse with my own suspenders, stockings & heels.
My ex, she'd never wear suspenders & stockings, her size 6 feet make her stilettos completely unwearable, I do have some joy from her strappy sandals & peep toes with some rather fun shoe play. I often encouraged her to wear them afterwards. πΏπΏπΏ
Wouldn't she be livid if she knew.
I borrowed the 24-70 lens, but must say that I prefer my 50 1.4. It's just too big and heavy. Thinking about trying the 35mm though... does anyone use that one?
ps. the lens was already there.. not a setup! I was behind my iMac, looking to my right and he was laying there staring at me ;)

The replacement signals at Waterloo, Indiana have been up for a couple years, but for now the New York Central Signal Bridge still stands. Repalcements have been turned on and the old signals have been taken down from East to West on this portion of the Chicago Line and this bridge will be lucky to see 2018.
Borrowed image. Whenever I find a faceless image on the net I am tempted to add my own. No will power .... in most things.
Would just like to wish all the amazing people I have met on flickr a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND CREATIVE NEW YEAR!!! made this a long time ago, inspired by the wonderful MARY NORTON BOOKS ABOUT THE BORROWERS.
