Another slide from the MARC "Rainbow Years" featuring expanded service and not enough horsepower. Kensington MD on October 8th 1991. AD Saleker photo, JL Sessa collection.
this is a wee water mite of some sort, borrowed from an ecologist who samples these things regularly
I don't mean she eats them (although she mite), I mean she collects and identifies them to check water quality in rivers
To borrow a line from Ed Sullivan, we had a "rilly big shew" from Lady Aurora last night in Alberta. The lights were visible even before it was completely dark and went on for hours! I'm quite thankful this happened on a weekend and didn't have to get up for work in the morning!

After Vermont Rail acquired the New England Southern, they borrowed Pan Am GP40 #313 while their switcher was being worked on in Burlington, VT. The northbound with two loads from 3M passes the rebuilt B&M semaphore and crosses from Northfield into Tilton, NH December 1, 2020
My attempts at getting some of CN's cool power today was capped off with the last train of the day when L52191 left Kirk for Joliet with a nice pair of EMD's leading their junk train over the Little Calumet River beneath some nice puffy clouds near Gary, IN.
The searchlights at West Halls on the BNSF St Joe Sub have maybe a few weeks left. The replacements are already standing on the east end and signal crews are working diligently. Not the leader I wanted but probably the last time I'll shoot this signal so I'll take it.
All beauty all fade away
All moonlight return today
All sunrise all shooting stars
All earth bound bare feet in day
You know where standing on .....borrowed heaven.

Sorry & The Sinatras - Borrowed Time | Highball Roller | 2009
I took a lot of photos this spring and summer and also last year and for some reason didn't upload all that often. Maybe I'll try a little retrospective. In May I loved the cow parsely so much, even inside, so I start with a cow parsley series :-)
A few weeks ago a friend forwarded me a copy of a letter to CSX employees stating that the Selkirk hump would be closed in the near future as a result of changes being implemented by Hunter Harrison. We were going to Pittsfield, MA this Saturday to have dinner with family, I figured it was a good chance to leave early and take a trip over to Selkirk for the first time in many years. It's amazing how much things have changed over the years, I remember my first visit in the early 80's my dad brought me and my brother to see the yard, we went into the division offices and walked out with a booklet "Conrail's Selkirk Yard a Visitor's Guide" which I still have on my bookshelf. Today, there is a large "No Tresspassing" sign at the front door of the division offices, something tells me they don't hand out visitors guides anymore. The famous Ben's bridge used to cross the entire yard at the foot of the hump right over the locomotive servicing facilities and shop. Today there isn't a trace of the bridge left. At the west end of the yard there were what seemed like hundreds of stored locomotives along the road. Today, this part of the west yard is now all auto racks. It's hard to believe the hump may soon be gone and it will be revert to a flat switching yard. We only had a little bit of time and it seemed to be a slow day, but it was a cool chance to fire up the drone and try to do a few aerial shots similar to what I remembered in the visitors guide. In this shot an SD40-2 and an MT6 slug are at the top of the hump. In the foreground is the south departure yard, in the background behind the hump bowl is the car shop and the north departure yard.

Happy Caturday!

An Eastbound NBSR train gets ready to leave Brownville Jct with some borrowed power from Pan Am , MEC 381 and MEC 380.
So the Pixy image theft service has shown me this image so many times that has been 'borrowed' online and for some reason virtually all are Chinese sites. So there goes any chance of chasing them up maybe. Part of the reason that i only upload lower resolution images so at least no one can print them. Suppose it is a form of flattery in that they think it's good enough to 'borrow'...
This is coming down the Tongariro Alpine Crossing looking towards Lake Rotoaira in the foreground with Lake Taupo behind and the Te Mari vent on the right after watching sunrise atop Red Crater.
Judging by the lean and the missing boards I'm guessing this barn won't be around for much longer. I'm so thankful for getting an opportunity to photograph this old beaut before it's gone forever
With replacement signals already in place a short distance away the old signals at mp 369 on the NS Chicago Line work their last days as the N&W heritage unit heads up a 21G westbound on 11-11-15.
Fun with reflections at the "Kranzler Eck" in Berlin's City West. The new Kranzler Eck (Kranzler is the name of a famous café, "Eck", short for "Ecke", means corner) was designed by Helmuth Jahn of Jahn/Morphy Architects, was built between 1998 and 2000. It so falls into the same era as the first Matrix movie. The glass architecture, especially with the reflections and the shades of green, reminded me of the movie (and also of a maze), and since three bee colonies live on the roof of the new Kranzler Eck, it reminded me even more of the movie, hence the title ;)
Please note: The lens info shown in the EXIF is wrong. This image was not taken with the Laowa 6mm lens (which I'd borrowed just before this walk from my Mom, magrit k.), but with my Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5mm lens. I had forgotten to reset the camera's lens info settings for manual lenses.

A mixture of Chessie, L&N, and SP power roll an eastbound just west of Beaumont CA in 1978. That's the 10 to the right of frame. No photographer listed, JL Sessa collection.
Weston's old pier gradually falling into a state of disrepair. It was more silhouetted then this but I have bought out the shadows to highlight the wear and tear.
My aim is to get more photographs of it over the winter while I still can, if possible down below during a lower tide.
This was Saturday evenings beautiful sunset which got far more intense after the sun dipped below the horizon.
This scene was much more glamorous back in the Victorian days!
Soo Line switching St.Paul industries. 7th St yard and FrtHse on lead behind cam. First of two NP double track tunnels visible straight ahead. Second on other side of GN. (single track centered for extra clearance today) GN mains at roof level of GP9. Soo tunnel just around bend left. All 3 went under GN Westminster Tower. CNW WM connection to E. St. Paul also went over all 3 tunnels.
NS 205 with 8114 heads past the D&H style search lights at Afton, NY. The signals replacements are rumored to be in within the year, this shot won't be the same much longer.
Coming out of the dip at Lake Odessa, CSX L303 splits the signals at Haddix Rd. with a decent train out of Grand Rapids. These signals are slated for replacement in 2024 after a tornado wiped out the code line east of here, and CSX is finally putting up the money to upgrade the old timers to modern equipment.
Snow falls over Queens as a duo of YN2 AC44s take the Y102 to Fresh Pond while a set of R46s hustle towards Astoria Boulevard. Both equipment are on borrowed time, as the AC44s are getting rebuilt by CSX and the R46s are soon to be phased out.
